Territorial Kavu RG
Creature - Kavu (R) Domain - Territorial Kavu's power and toughness are each equal to the number of basic land types among lands you control.
Whenever Territorial Kavu attacks, choose one -
*Discard a card. If you do, draw a card.
*Exile up to one target card from a graveyard.
*/*
Card seems pretty nuts for 2 mana, although the value will vary based on the fixing available in your cube/the deck it ends up in. Excited to slot this in for testing and hoping it goes well.
Seems like a staple for RGx stompy, but that's a pretty narrow application IMO. I'm not too interested in it for my cube, but I definitely see the stompy appeal.
If the Kavu is big enough to attack safely, you're rocking and rolling. Damage is good and looting is good.
If the Kavu is not big enough to attack safely, that's probably because it's in vanilla 2/2 or 1/1 mode, which will happen sometimes. Sometimes your land drops are Forest, City of Brass, Forest. This is not a good scenario.
The ceiling is high, the floor is low. (The real floor is having City of Brass and Mox Ruby in your opener and wishing you'd drawn literally any other 2-drop.)
The card asks you to jump through a lot of hoops.
(*) It's multicolored. That's always a hoop.
(*) You need a lot of domain, and you need it on T3.
(*) You don't get access to the utility abilities unless there's a profitable attack.
My guess is that aggro beaters need to demand less of their owners to be serviceable in the Cube (and looters in a reanimator deck should ideally be able to do the job during opponent's EOT -or- on your turn), but that anyone who runs it will find it to be amazing from time to time.
I like Voltaic Brawler way more than this Kavu. Being a guild card makes it way too tight so it is a miss for me. It needed something else to push it over the top.
You need 4 land types before you really feel like you're getting a great deal (the on-attack abilities are extremely meh). That won't happen enough in a normal cube game. This card is actively bad in straight gruul and a slightly above rate beater in 3 color. Easy pass.
I think this card might have the issue of being a weird hybrid of two archetypes. (in the context of cube). You need 4 or more types for this to begin to shine, which is difficult in an aggrosive deck, so the aggro deck will just take Voltaic Brawler over this, while the 5 colour deck is looking for bigger payoffs than a 5/5, and would rather have a 2 drop that ramps.
I threw this card in on a lark. I don't remember what, but there was something I was eager to cut, and this filled the slot.
I've been pretty impressed with this thing's stats, and just as a two mana 3/3, it's not too bad. I see it getting bigger pretty often. The attack trigger's nice, but this is mostly only ever a guy with good stats. It's rather like tarmogoyf in play.
I don't really imagine this is good enough for small multicolor sections, and if I were forced to go down to only four or five red/green cards, this wouldn't be one of them. But in a small environment with 10 triomes, I could see this being a 4/4 or 5/5 pretty easily.
Along the lines of steve_man's mention of domain, anyone thinking about this fella, scion of draco, etc?
Territorial Kavu / Scion of Draco have definitely come to mind, but I think they're a bit more dependent on other factors of one's cube besides more triomes. New triomes aside, I'm still not too interested in this for my cube since I don't support green aggro / stompy and don't really prefer this to my current Gruul options.

Draft my cube! (630 cards)
Turn 2 shock and 5/5
somewhat unlikely but still seems pretty sweet if anyone can pull it off.
