I was looking for a while for a green 6 drop other than Primveal Titan and this one hits me as a the "better than it looks" card.
3/6 reach flash for 6 is on its own subpar but at minimum act as an "unexpected" combat trick. But there is also the times when it will cascade another creature, make it big and totally unbalance a board position.
Green is in my opinion the color that has to gain the most from an expensive cascade card since it has the most tools to get to it quick and has usually the most menacing creatures to offer at 4 and 5.
Also, this with the red phoenix is the first monocolored cascade card we are getting and having a smaller but more playable maelstrom wanderer is something I want to explore. And for me at least, that is going to be the first spider I will try on my cube.
This will neither make it into powered cube nor small unpowered lists but I feel that larger lists could give it a try as I will do on my side and feedback you as soon as I have cubed once with this.
Speaking for the B-listers, this card is sweet. I'd gladly play it over something powerful but unfun like Carnage Tyrant. I do wish it had reminder text for cascade though.
Cascade is a swingy ability, and favoring creatures like this makes it even swingier, but the floor is pretty acceptable. Looks like a fun card all around.
I have a hard time imaging a cube running six green 6-drops.
In this card's defense, Verdurous Gearhulk is a 5-drop, so it would only be the sixth 6-drop.
This card is cool, but I can't see myself running it. It's expensive enough that I'd be worried about cascading into a noncreature spell and on top of the list happyjosiah provided, I think this comes after Kogla, the Titan Ape as well (which I run in addition to Primeval Titan, Great Oak Guardian and Carnage Tyrant). Four is already a lot.

Well, part of why I like the card is as you suggest, that it's bringging flavor and weird/fun moment when it's going to get cast. I have an unpowered cube and tried some of the 6 drops other than Titan that has been mentioned and results were not memorable for my group.
But if the spider does not work, I do believe I will try Great Oak Guardian since I forgot that it existed and produce part of an effect I am looking for more consistently that the spider will do.

My High Octane Unpowered Cube on CubeCobra
and it's decent from a power level perspective.
Better in an unpowered cube because you have less random mox bricks
