Witch of the Moors 3BB
Human Warlock
Deathtouch
At the beginning of your end step, if you gained life this turn, each opponent sacrifices a creature and you return up to one target creature card from your graveyard to your hand.
4/4
------
This is a good card for people who like bad cards.
If you're like me and are eager to see more payoff to support your lifegain archetype in B/W, I think you might like this card. Soul Warden, Soul's Attendant,Ajani's Welcome, Sorin, Vengeful Bloodlord, any creature with lifelink ... there are lots of ways to turn this card on the turn you cast it. And, since it triggers on end step, you can cast after you've gained life earlier in the turn; I think that's a huge plus, because you don't telegraph the trigger. I mean hell, you can even suicide the lifelinker into the red zone and just get it back to hand on end step. If you're active, you pass the vindicate test and can get up to 3-for-1 on the turn it comes down. And it can keep activating on successive turns.
There are numerous downsides. First, it doesn't trigger itself; you might find it near useless outside of lifegain decks, because incidental lifegain is ... incidental. A 4/4 for 5 isn't a great deal; won't survive a wildfire. But, it's not going to die to a stray bolt, so it's not abysmal. Furthermore, the way the trigger works, you're still vulnerable to huge tempo loss with no value if your opponent can respond at instant speed.
Might be preferred in other formats, like Commander. But, I think for people who specifically want a lifegain archetype in cube, it's worth considering a handful of dedicated payoff slots with cards like this. If you're not interested in that, I think it's an easy pass.
