This is a strange but powerful card. It's a three mana Growth Spiral (plus 3 life) that can eventually come back and be very much a titan. UUGG and five cards is a steep cost, making this really an archetype specific card for a cube with a heavy graveyard theme. If you aren't that, you might as well play other great Simic cards. If you are, it is by no means crazy that this could escape more than once, and a few triggers is enough to bury your opponent with tempo. Blue and green both come by cards in the graveyard with ease if an environment is geared to make it so.
This is a good card, and should likely see play in cubes where the section isn't bogged down with archetype-specific cards that require inclusion.
I second this and posit that this would likely replace Growth Spiral in the cubes still running it, as escape can be payed for using already played land search and counterspells fairly easily.
Definitely an option over Growth Spiral. I do think 5 cards in the yard are hard to get to for (my cube) decks for escaping until mid-late game. I like that this is a reasonable reanimation target without costing > 8.
I like that this is a reasonable reanimation target without costing > 8.
Unless you like to reanimate Growth Spirals, I don't think you'll like reanimating this boy.
I'm not too sure about the card. I really like the card and the endless value, but 5 cards in the yard is a lot, and this card doesn't help you get there, (or it draws you a card so it helps a bit). Paying 3 mana for sorcery spiral growth + 3 life is too fair for cube, so you're relying on escaping with this card when you put this in your deck. That said, this titan gives gets going once it escapes.
A weird Mulldrifter / Primeval Titan / Hogaak hybrid. The 3-cmc mode ain't bad at all, but UUGG + exile 5 cards is a steep cost. UG decks tend to focus more on permanents in my experience, thus don't fill the graveyard that well. While the body / ability is great, no evasion means it's going to have to rely a lot on winning the value game. Escaping this more than once won't be easy, and being able to escape this in the midgame isn't very reliable without niche things like Satyr Wayfinder / Winding Way.
This card can get there, but it has just one too many hoops for me to want to play it over other options. Also, not being able to do well in cheaty into play strategies is a big strike against any fattie. Something like Coiling Oracle may be lower impact, but it's cheaper overall and has much more synergies with things like blink / Natural Order / Birthing Pop / Recurring Nightmare / etc. This titan really brings no value to certain game plans besides grind over time and hope that you can escape it in a timely fashion.
The upside of this card is definitely there and in the perfect shell it should be an absolute powerhouse.
My concern is that the majority of my GU don’t fill the graveyard well at all.
The 1GU part of the card is a solid floor, but the meat of the power in the card is in its escape cost.
therefore you want it in a deck that can cast UUGG. It’s not good as a splash.
It seems very good in a GU deck with fetchlands and cantrips, but maybe non maindeckable in a permanent based green ramp deck.
I’ll test because of its upside, but not confident it’ll stick. Unsure how narrow it’ll be in cube. Prob nuts in constructed.
I like this fairly well. Best card in the set for me to try. It may not stick with green sun’s zenith or collected company but great value with both. My blue green decks like ramp and cards and fatties but sometimes have trouble getting it all together and keeping at 40 cards so I like combined cards.
Reminds me of Koran Tusker. Can be animated but the is a B/G deck plan. Escape in a sonic or Temur build should be fine. 5 mana for a shock seems bad but firebolt hangs around. We will see how bad escape 5 is
I think I was totally wrong on this card... We’re going to give it a shot. Initially it felt like you had to “work” for the UUGG escape 5, but if that simply happens enough in your Simic midrange deck, then this is worth it. I still wonder if you need to prioritize certain cards for synergy, like 2-3 more spells than you’d normally play in a Simic deck.
First time I cast this guy I also had a Mimic Vat. Yeah, that was filthy.
Even in normal circumstances, I'm very optimistic about Uro though. Love the design.
I like that it feels very different from other cards in my cube while still doing all the things I like (undercosted fatties, card advantage, graveyard value, combo etc.
Interaction with Sun Titan looks pretty nice too. Doesn't play too friendly with blinks, since it dies when it comes back, but benefits from being Manifested by something like Mastery of the Unseen, Primordial Mist, Scroll of Fate, or Whisperwood Elemental. (I think Manifest and Morph are great and functional themes in a cube!) This just does a lot of what you'd want a card to do in a slow pile, and doesn't seem too dead against any decks.
After plenty of reps in standard, cube, pioneer, draft I think this card is great. Best in the set for me. Will likely stick for a long while unless wizards keeps drinking the simic koolaid
I was looking at the This or That thread and noticed some discussion about where Uro fits in the Simic power rankings (see top of pg 558, here). The sense that I got was that he's near the top of the list and basically a must play. Does that sound right, based on people's experiences?
I guess I'm just surprised since I saw the potential weaknesses of the card (i.e., low impact front end and difficult to enable back end) as outweighing the strengths, particularly in the cube format.
i would also definitely be interested to hear peoples' experiences with uro in cube. it's just moderately expensive enough that i don't want to buy one just for testing!

Yea, that's where I'm at. Before going and dropping $50, I just want to make sure it's a reasonable investment!
Uro is an all star. It's not quite as oppressively powerful as it is in constructed, and it's obviously much fairer than Oko, but I think it will be a 360 staple for a long time.
From what I have seen in standard/historic -- this card seems like it is on its way to the banhammer -- I wouldn't drop $50.00 on it if you can pick it up for much cheaper in a short while, especially when you probably aren't cubing right now anyway. I think Wizards just wants to avoid applying the banhammer until the Theros packs stop selling.
Uro has been absolutely filthy in my play-testing, what a stellar card. Also love the design and find the card a joy to play with, and not terrible to play against (unlike Oko).
I definitely rank Uro above Krasis. For Simic cards, I would say Oko > Uro > Krasis = Edric. With the ranking of the last two depending on what UG decks you want to support.

Currently a pretty pricey standard card, though.
Oko, Krasis, and Nissa are my top 3. After that Edric, Mystic Snake, and Uro are all good second tier options.
