I was just thinking that I wanted a golgari 4cmc creature that was good with pod. I also just added a minor proliferate theme in sulti colors. this card will be a slam dunk in my cube, however I imagine that it isn't good enough for most powered lists.
I recommend meren of clan nel toth, for birthing pod support.
when first reading polukranos I misread the remove counters clause, as being like oathsworn knight. It’s significantly worse than I first thought... though the escape mide is very powerful and it’s good at picking off cheap utility creatures and beating down on empty board states.
Yeah, I was really disappointed by how the damage clause reads. I think to play this card you need a hefty self-mill thing going on in these colors, because I feel like you're really not getting something cool til it escapes.
It's not bad, but I think there are just more efficient and interesting cards available.
It's a cool card, but there is just so many ways you get screwed when playing this. No trample, so your late game 12/12 is getting chumbed. The 6/6 can be answered simply by getting chumbed a couple of turns. Where as that's normally the strength of a big brute - forcing the opponent to chump a medium creature or feel the hurt. Burn turns into combat tricks againsr it, and don't get me started on how often you'll get blown out by having it removed as you use the fight ability. There will also be plenty of times where you are missing that last card in the graveyard to escape this.
The design is cool, and there is power in the card, but this will be soo annoying to play with. It will play like a sports car that keeps having motor issues and tires punctured.
Feels like this card has been nurfed a little by every angle possible. The result makes it an unplayable option for most powered cube. No evasion, lack in the recursion engine, the counter clause not being like the old-school phantom one... The fight ability is nice but the rest doesn't looks great.
The recursion is nice, but the lack of trample and getting worn down over time is pretty bad. Black and green have no shortage of ways to kill things or grind for value, especially at that mana cost. Paying mana to activate a fight ability has never been great, especially since it can be prevented by just removing the Polukranos.
Card seems pushed. Not great vs white removal, but creature decks should find this annoying AF.
Also random recruiter/counter synergies.
Think he's competitive with the golgari cards ranked after the premium removal spells. How competitive? I'll have to test to find out
