Whenever Lightning Skelemental deals combat damage to a player, that player discards two cards.
At the beginning of the end step, sacrifice Lightning Skelemental.

This seems a good bit worse than Blightning to me.
Mana cost is more demanding and it's susceptible to every piece of instant speed removal that exists.
Basically with this card, you are paying a tougher mana cost to get in 6 instead of 3 damage and the very real risk of dying or being blocked before doing anything useful.
The only real upside is that this card can hit Planeswalkers in a pinch. But if you do, you don't get the discard effect!

100% this. While I think Blightning is still a very respectable cube card that just has way too much competition, I think Lightning Skelemental falls short due to its narrow applications / mana cost.
Idk, I think it’s a good bit better than Blightning personally. There’s a reason Ball Lightning costs RRR and Lava Spike only costs R. 3 extra damage is serious business, and even though the discard isn’t as reliable connecting with this is just a backbreaker. I wish the mana cost was a bit less restrictive, but I imagine this mostly in red splashing black aggro decks anyway.
Card seems great to me and probably better than blightning.
6 damage and 2 cards for 3 mana and 1 card!?
For it to be equal or worse than blightning, the opponent has to have a battlefield tall enough to block 6 points of damage, or an instant speed removal spell with mana up by turn 3 like 35+% of the time. I just don't think that's the case.
But... that mana cost is vomit and rakdos is sttaacackedd. I may test but probably not.

The bolded part is why I disagree. No guarantee at all this comes out for turn 3, whereas it's much more likely with Blightning.
