Seems like the best red one drop since Goblin Guide, and an easy #2 to the Guide.
Great stats, Dash for latergame relevance, mostly meaningless drawback.

Why are all the red critters awesome so far? RDW doesn't care if Zurgo Blocks, it cares that on turn 1 you get a 2/2 Beater that can attack T2 for 2 and get a Mardu Scout for Dash, or Swiftspear + wild slash for...6 on T2. WHAT!? Yeah...I'm a make this deck

The flavor of the two sets in contrast to one another is incredible, and this card is another awesome example. In a world where dragons are most powerful, Zurgo is able to get crazy buff and strong through battle with similar, non-dragon foes. In the dragon world where he is not able to stand in combat and slay away, he has to be more agile so he can accurately warn his people, but he is unable to stop the dragons. He'll be there first, but only to ring the bell, not to meet the dragons head on. I wonder if there is any kind of lore within the armor he has, if that gives him the indestructibility. Also, is he on the same hill that the Dragon Throne of Tarkir is on?
I don't see pup going anywhere, I'm super stoked to get another playable 2 power red one drop. White and Black need them less than red does in cube and they've had so many more than red has. This is great news.
Also going to grab one of these. This will most likely replace Spikeshot Elder, which routinely doesn't see play with my group. Isamaru the Red should be a good include.
Spikeshot would be a good cut if you're running him. I think running all the playable 2-power 1-drops next to each other is better than cutting one for another.
Green and Black probably need more quality 1-drops, but Red's hit critical mass since Firedrinker Satyr, unless you own a larger Cube. I'd rather raise the quality, not the quantity, of Red Aggro and diversify the color into other archetypes.
blah, blah instant staple, blah, blah stable at any size cube, blah, in love with it, blah.
Raise your hand if you never thought something like this would be printed.
Make his fight on the hill in the early Day
Constant Chill deep inside
Shouting gun, on they Run through the endless grey
On they fight, for the right, yes but who's to say?
For a hill men would kill why? They do not know
Stiffened wounds test their pride
Men of five, still Alive through the raging glow
Gone insane from this Pain that they surely know
For whom the bell tolls
Time marches on
For whom the bell tolls
Take a look to the sky just before you die
It is the last time you will
Blackened roar massive roar fills the crumbling sky
Shattered goal fills his soul with a ruthless cry
Stranger now, are his Eyes, to this mystery
He hears the Silence so loud
Crack of dawn, all is Gone except the will to be
Now they will see what will be, blinded Eyes to see
For whom the bell tolls
Time marches on
For whom the bell tolls
Total side note but I like how people are discussing running this over itself.
Well, it has to be said that Kolaghan is clearly better than Kolaghan. Considering what BR decks usually want and how stiff the competition in this guild is, there is no way that I would run Kolaghan over Kolaghan! Kolaghan might make it in as the sixth guild card or so. Kolaghan on the other hand ranks several places below that.
It was so funny to me when they described this as a downgrade to the original Zurgo during the Pax East panel. I was thinking if this is a downgrade, they should really "downgrade" all legendary creatures. Haha.
My deck designing is quite concise at this point:
1. Come up with deck idea
2. Realize this idea is somehow fundamentally similar to another deck I have or that is commonly played in my group
3. Decide I don't want to disassemble one of my existing decks
4. Give up and do nothing
I don't see the point of this new shroud mechanic. It's strictly worse than Hexproof. Threshold is pretty bad too, Delirium is a much better mechanic and probably easier to activate.
Otherwise this card is a pretty neat guy. Dodges removal and grows into a Primal Huntbeast. 3/5
Creature - Orc Warrior
Zurgo can't block creatures with power 2 or greater
Dash 1R
2/2

Seems like a staple 1 drop.
