I'm somewhat surprised we don't have a thread on this card. This looks like a fine addition to an aggro/ midrange deck, where you can remove a problematic card such as The One Ring from the opponent's hand if you're ahead and it has a failsafe mode where it forces the opponent to discard a card.
Card isn't bad, but Elite Spellbinder is much better because flying > menace and its ETB trigger is more consistent. Hand disruption is rare in white where it's a dime a dozen in black. Deep-Cavern Bat and Kitesail Freebooter already fill this niche in black.

I currently play Deep-Cavern Bat and I think it's fantastic. What I like about this is it's a strong, repeatable ETB effect that has some flicker synergies and it is a 2 for 1, rather than just a taxing effect.
The main reason I'm exploring Tier 2 black discard is I'm currently not a fan that my Vintage Cube has White/ Red/ Black AND Green as colors that support 1-drop aggro. I think it's a bit of a no-brainer to have White/ Red as the 1-drop aggro colors. Unfortunately, I'm arrived at the conclusion that Green also should support 1-drop aggro - Green has ALOT of very good 1-CMC creatures and supporting green aggro over something like Melira helps to ensure there are sufficient 1-drop mana dorks for the decks that need it.
I don't like this card because you need to be aggressive for you to get the selection; otherwise it's just a scaled-up Ravenous Rats. So, that's a deckbuilding restriction. Spellbinder always does what he says, has more power and better evasion.
I dont care much for this card. Id definitely play another one of the marginal one mana discard spells over this.
I think you might be right over this. I was pretty impressed by Deep-Cavern Bat and I've found the flying and lifelink were just good enough to push it over the edge.
I still think this is a good card, but I think this might be restricted just to the aggressive decks, which really doesn't need anymore good 3 CMC creatures.

I think this is slightly better variant of Elite Spellbinder

I'm really hoping that black can pivot to a more midrange color with cards like Deep-Cavern Bat / Thought-Stalker Warlock / Tourach, Dread Cantor / Intimidation Tactics etc.
I'm also not against playing all of cards mentioned above - I would love for games to be more interactive.
