A new Sandsteppe Outcast variant. Frankly, I didn't even know Sandsteppe Outcast existed before today, and it usually doesn't bode well when a card shares its templating with draft chaff. But not only do I think Sanguine Evangelist is cubeable, I think it can compete in one of the most congested slots in the cube. Compared to Outcast, the Evangelist trades the ability to put a counter on itself for an additional token on death and the all important Battle Cry. This means that, unlike everyothercardwiththistemplate, the nontoken body is actually a major threat that your opponent has to deal with. And if they do, that's when you get paid off with an additional token, which again is unprecedented. I think Sanguine Evangelist is an autoinclude for cubes that support a token theme, and she's a strong contender even for cubes that don't.
I think this card is incredible.
Great on defense, great on offense, evasive and blink/recursive value.
It’s not on the unfair-fair spectrum power level but it’s a near auto include for me.
Edit: darn it, I thought it had flying on first read. It’s still good but when it attacks it likely is a suicide attack which is not great. still worth a test but not an auto/auto.
I know this isn't a perfect correlation, but the has a tier A+ win rate if its in the player's opening hand. I'm wondering if anyone has any insights / recent test results.
I don't have anything quantitative to offer, but I've played it on Arena Powered Cube and yeah the card is nice. Clamp it, Bombard it, or just swing with it - I mean, if you're an aggressive deck, it's always pretty good. Not insane or like a must-cube, but just a solid card that I'm generally always happy to see.
Decent card is decent. Not as good as the numbers would suggest though, it's just being carried by the fact that Boros / White Aggro are the most dominant strategies int the MTGA Vintage Cube right now.
What's nice about Evangelist is that she is both an enabler and a payoff for the token deck. Problem is, she's not great at either role. I do find it funny that is dominating the MTGA cube so hard, and it doesn't even have initiative. Imagine what those numbers would look like with White Plume Adventurer / Seasoned Dungeoneer / Caves of Chaos Adventurer
