This is a very strong removal option in Vintage Cube and I highly recommend:
1. Strong in storm decks to generate +2 storm count with Yawg Will/ Pif/ Underworld Breach. Brain Freeze/ Tendrils often just requires a storm count of 7-8 and adding +2 storm is very powerful.
2. Doom Blade Variants are at its all time worst right now as 1 CMC removal + threat-Removal have significantly improved. I found that tempo decks/ midrange/ control decks are less about trading 1 for 1 and pulling ahead with a 5-6 drop, but more about aggressively landing 3-4 CMC threats (traditionally planeswalker). This is incredibly strong for protecting a planeswalker but also removing a blocker for a planeswalker.
3. Great answer to creature combos.

I'm actively maintaining a comprehensive article to help explain to new cube players how some complex vintage level cards work in a cube environment. Vintage Cube Cards Explained
I've considered it but if you don't run storm or creature based combos I think it falls short.
It also has the downside of losing if someone can strip mine you. It's a worthwhile risk if your gonna lose anyway, but I feel like I would rather have one of the better 2 mana kill spells that can hit another card type or have some upside.

A good card, but maybe not for every cube
