Mazemind Tome has been great in my 720 unpowered cube and this new one seems better than Tome as a mana sink effect for control decks. I am sure that this card won't play in small, medium cubes, but I think it deserves a discussion here. Thoughts?
I've always liked Mazemind Tome, but a big part of it being useful was the fact that you can scry for free, and scry twice before your next draw step. This lacking a free option to scry and the fact that the vehicle itself isn't all that great doesn't have me too interested.
I agree that the scry for free is a big lack here. My point is the mana sink when it is no counter could be a good deal for the late game: draw, treasure, and 1/1 token. But I am not sure if it is better than Mazemind Tome overall
Mazemind is best in reactive decks where this wants to be pro-active with creatures. While they look similar, I really wouldn't compare them directly since they go in completely different decks. That being said, I do think that Mazemind Tome is probably better in reactive decks than this is in proactive creature decks.

I don't think you can activate this when there's no counters on it, can you? Removing the counter is part of the cost. I think you get 2 activations that just draw you a card, one activation that draws you a card and gets you a treasure and pilot, and then it's just a vehicle.

Correct, removing a counter is part of the cost, so you can't activate this ability if it doesn't have any counters on it.
I guess I cut Mazemind Tome at some point. I liked it alright, and I'd love to play a variant of it. Unfortunately, this is just a tad too janky.
Crew 3 to animate a 4/4 is pretty pathetic. If it were a 5/5, or had evasion, or made a second treasure, or got you another pilot somehow, or let you keep drawing cards, this would just get there. As is, I don't think it's worth the time and mana.
This card has been all over standard lately and plays much better than I expected so I am revisiting it for cube.
I like it a lot more than mazemind tome and was wondering if anyone else is taking another look given it's recent success in other formats or has already been playing it.
I have it in my list but haven't had a chance to test it. My experience with it has been in Arena, where it was solid enough that it piqued my interest. I think conceptually at least this and Mazemind Tome are nice to have as options in colors that otherwise have very limited card draw.
I’ve been curious about this as well.
I cut treasure map recently but I did like that card.
This feels similar in nature and function, but has seen much more standard play.
I really like Treasure map, but its more of a combo card if anything.

I'm actively maintaining a comprehensive article to help explain to new cube players how some complex vintage level cards work in a cube environment. Vintage Cube Cards Explained
Don't have much experience with Reckoner Bacnckbuster but I played a lot with the other 2 and to me Mazemind Tome > Treasure map (we cut the latest recently). Mazemind Tome is good because it does cost any mana to activate.
So I fear activation cost of 2 of Reckoner Bankbuster is too much for powered cubes.
I have been playing this, and while I undervalued it in my previous post, I still play it mostly as artifact filler.
It's okay in the same way Mazemind Tome was okay, but I wish I could just keep drawing cards. Getting a single treasure and a getaway driver is often better than the 4 life from Tome, but it's not stellar.
The crewing bonus is helpful though. You're not gonna bother crewing this without it.
I have no plans to cut this. It goes pretty early because the majority of decks don't mind taking it. But if there were more options for colorless card draw, I wouldn't miss it.
I personally prefer Brainstone. I don't know if that card is very widely played.
I just read the standard Ban Announcement and Reckless seems to be the breakout card in Standard.
I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts about it? It feels like a fairly good 2 drop with an enormous card advantage potential.
My only "concern" right now is not that it isn't good, but its that 2 CMC is VERY strong right now and a decent colorless 2 drop may not cut it.
I think the 2-cmc activation makes it too slow for my cube. Standard has a much very different environment where Cut Down just invalidates so many early drops and you're able to grind with this.
