Amazing set. Every color is getting some winners here with Black being perhaps the biggest winner and Blue being the worst getting only Lose Focus and Subtlety. Blue doesn't need help anyway....It's going to be a real struggle to make cuts for some of the new inclusions. Also, this set is a bigtime wallet buster - hope the one set box I bought is good to me because these are some pricy singles.
Wish the Horizon land cycle would've been completed, but knew it wasn't going to happen with the fetchland reprints.
I believe WoTC's new policy is to make sure that every color can enjoy the exciting gameplay mechanic of making undercosted dudes and then turning them sideways. Clearly the future of magic.

I also decided to take the plunge and add Ephemerate over Land Tax because the ETB creature value has really gotten insane at this point after this set.
I'll post my changes on Wednesday but the other night I did three Winston drafts with a buddy & last night we did a 5 man draft. Below are my notes!
Tonight I did three online Winston drafts with a friend (we’ll call him P). We couldn’t seed the new cards so we did a regular Winston draft. At the end of each draft we then each selected four MH2 cards to round out our decks.
The 20 MH2 cards we had to pick from were:
Esper Sentinel
Timeless Dragon
Solitude
Prismatic Ending
Subtlety
Lose Focus
Svyelun, God of Sea and Sky
Flay Essence
Bone Shards
Grief
Tourach, Dread Chanter
Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer
Flametongue Yearling
Sylvan Anthem
Silverbluff Bridge
Grist, the Hunger Tide
Damn
Master of Death
Ignoble Hierarch
Geyadrone Dihada
Below are some thoughts on MH2 cards or other cards that were recently added to the Cube.
Draft 1:
I took (in order):
Ignoble Hierarch
Grist, the Hunger Tide
Bone Shards
Grief
P took:
Silverbluff Bridge
Timeless Dragon
Geyadrone Dihada
Damn
Makeshift Munitions sacrificed a Sol Ring in response to it getting destroyed. The 1 mana cost of Makeshift was an inconvenience but still worth having it as it helped me beat Moat when I otherwise wouldn’t have.
Bastion of Remembrance was a win condition/inevitability. It’s part of a recent sacrifice deck support we added.
Rip Apart destroyed Skullclamp. (P went Baleful Strix into Rip Apart like a boss thanks to Triomes/duals)
Bone Shards was amazing! 1 mana to destroy his Tezzeret was totally worth it. Discarded a meaningless land in the late game.
Grist was fantastic. Got played & killed a Walker right away.
Draft 2:
I drafted:
Damn
Solitude
Timeless Dragon
Subtlety
P drafted:
Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer
Ignoble Hierarch
Esper Sentinel
Prismatic Ending
Prismatic Ending was awesome. Exiled Court of Grace for 4 colors in one game & Hangarback Walker for W in another. Felt brutal both times.
Timeless Dragon was a 5/5 flier. It was nice having the backup in case it was killed.
Subtlety acted as a 3/3 flash flier for 4 to add a combat trick which was nice.
Makeshift Munitions won a game for P after I stabilized with Gideon Jura because he sacrificed his guys. This card definitely impressed me tonight.
Draft 3:
I took:
Damn
Timeless Dragon
Solitude
Prismatic Ending
P took:
Bone Shards
Master of Death
Geyadrone Dihada
Flay Essence
Lurrus recurred Blood Artist & Giver of Runes.
Timeless Dragon got a land on 2 & Eternalized on 4 which was nice.
Prismatic Ending dealt with Goblin Bombardment but could have dealt with a 4 drop on turn 4 thanks to Triomes. My deck was mainly two colors with a light splash of a third.
Geyadrone was dealt with immediately multiple times because she was terrifying to see. Without an immediate answer things would have gotten really bad.
Bone Shards was again awesome. 1 mana is totally worth it & black can overcome the discard/sacrifice.
It never happened because my opponent got mana screwed but I had Solitude in hand with a white card and Restoration Angel. Shenanigans could have ensued. Wasn't high on Solitude when it was spoiled but this potential play was exciting.
We had 20 cards from MH2 we tested. Only 5 cards never got drafted in any of the three Winston Draft matches:
Lose Focus
Flametongue Yearling
Sylvan Anthem
Tourach, Dread Chanter
Svyelun, God of Sea and Sky
Hoping to draft again in a few days. Thanks for reading!
Did a 5 person draft with some friends last night. We couldn't seed the new cards in the draft since we were online so we did a regular draft then did a Rotisserie Draft for the MH2 cards. We each took 3 cards from the new set. In order here were the 15 cards taken:
Bone Shards is nuts. The player who drafted it loves playing Grixis and he couldn’t stop raving about the card. It will be a top card from this very powerful set.
Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer had trouble connecting for the GR drafter. He didn’t have enough removal to clear a path. When it did connect it was crazy.
Subtlety was great for me as a 3/3 flash flier for 4 in addition to Memory Lapse on my opponent’s creature spell AND leaving behind that 3/3. I ended up hardcasting it every time as I wasn’t under enough pressure in the games it came up.
Grief is a card that I dreamt about putting under Mimic Vat ever since it was spoiled. I got to do it in the very first draft with it! Exiled a Languish (which was great in the matchup) which surprised the opponent. But then I put it under the vat & he was like, “oh.” I proceeded to use it inside his draw step every turn to deplete his entire hand. I eventually built up my board and won the game. I was so thrilled that this happened. Our Cube isn’t super combo based but this combo was HOT! Side note: Mimic Vat is an existing Cube card that gained a ton of value with MH2.
Silverbluff Bridge we are running as a replacement to the UR Pathway. Being an early fodder for Tinker, Makeshift Munitions or BR Daretti has been fantastic. Another great thing is that it doesn’t have a mana cost the turn it’s played so you don’t need to play another artifact before casting one of the aforementioned cards.
Ignoble Hierarch was fantastic. Player got his only R source blown up but was still able to cast things because of it.
Flay Essence has lifegain which is very relevant. The player also mentioned the exiling portion was great instead of just destroying.
Damn was played by the BR player & he said it was fine. I think this is a huge point in its favor as I view the W side as being way better. If the black & non-white drafter is happy with it then that’s tremendous.
Tireless Provisioner wasn’t impressive to the G drafter. This was surprising on its face but looking at his deck he wasn’t very rampy so I don’t think his deck was the best home for this.
Lose Focus was my last pick & was great being replicated. I was U/B & sadly didn’t have Sedgemoor Witch but if I did one turn I cast it would have been for 4 Pests also. I also cast it as a Cancel when that was needed. We also had an extended conversation last night about what counterspell to cut & we decided on Condescend. From a mana efficiency perspective it makes sense. It wasn’t the cut I would have chosen but my group made valid arguments & I listened to them.
I love sharing feedback during spoiler season so hopefully this helps people make decisions on cards to test!
(Side note if anyone is interested in online Cube drafting then send me a message. The Cube is https://cubecobra.com/cube/list/kingneb We are always looking for more people to join us!)
Damn, Dauthi Voidwalker, Bone Shards, Ragavan, and Ignoble Hierarch are the only things definitely being added. Will be keeping an eye on everything else.
Massive, massive list for us at powered 720. Not sure they will all stay, but we’re adding the following 26 cards. Haven’t seen a thread on Vile Gravedigger yet, but it seems very interesting, even with fair synergies in a black devotion deck like getting Bloodghasts and Gravecrawlers.
Sanctifier en-Vec
Solitude
Prismatic Ending
Lose Focus
Dauthi Voidwalker
Grief
Tourach
Vile Gravedigger
Archon of Cruelty
Unmarked Grave
Persist
Sudden Edict
Ragavan
Flametongue Yearling
Fury
Kaleidoscorch
Ignoble Hierarch
Tireless Provisioner
Timeless Witness
Foundation Breaker
Master of the Dead
Dakkon, Shadow Slayer
Grist, the Hunger Tide
Damn
General Ferrous Rockeric
That is a massive list. Honestly, there are a bunch of cards to discuss that have no threads yet. Serra's Emissary for example. From your list, why Sactifier en Vec?

Great question, and while this is totally without testing, it fills a weak slot for us as a white weenie hatebear when we’re pushing/leaning into mono support for each color. From our experience white weenie works best when you have diversified hate abilities on little creatures (Containment Priest has been incredible for us). The slot it’s replacing is one of Accorder Paladin, Glory-bound Initiate, or Kor Skyfisher, and we haven’t been super excited about any of those cards. It’s worth noting that our group is pretty “spiky” and embraces color protection if it makes a card competitive.
I had high expectations for MH2, and I was still absolutely blown away by what we got. While less successful than MH1 if you look purely at the number of new inclusions, I think the overall quality of the cards are higher. Here are my list of inclusions:
I think this is everything? I'm mostly excited for the new black cards / black multicolored cards like Grist and Master of the Dead. I would've added Urza's Saga if my cube were powered.
Ever since MH1 introduced the five enemy horizon lands two years ago, I’ve been hoping MH2 would finish the cycle with four new allied horizon lands (and maybe a Horizon Canopy reprint if they can work around the new-to-modern restriction). Maybe in MH3?
