New reanimation target and absolutely insane with Sneak Attack effects. Shallow Grave would also work well with this.
I like this a lot too. With Shallow Grave, this is 12 damage (6 points of drain), Discard 2 cards, Sacrifice 2, draw 2 cards.

I'm actively maintaining a comprehensive article to help explain to new cube players how some complex vintage level cards work in a cube environment. Vintage Cube Cards Explained
I think this is easily the 3rd best black super fattie after Griselbrand and Grave Titan. It's definitely strong, but I'm currently not in the market for it. If I were to add another super fattie, it'd probably something that goes well with Channel since that has the least support IMO.
Ugh, I really didn't need another 8 mana black card, but this is certainly competitive with Griselbrand. Arguably better in instances when you're low on life when Grizzle drops. Better against removal, too, when you're behind (as is often the case in reanimator, getting beat down early). Ridiculous with Sneak effects as has been pointed out.
Testing this over Sheoldred. I like Sheoldred more than most but I love the ETB & attack abilities to give value. Also getting this under a Mimic Vat is <3
Think I'm past saturation for creatures that are only good in reanimation/sneak attack but aren't really hardcastable.
I don't see him usurping any target I currently run, so I would have to run it in addition.
If you run shallow grave or the non-legendary tutor stuff this guy becomes a lot more appealing.
I like testing him in 720+ cubes, cubes that heavily support shallow grave stuff or 540+ seeking novelty.
Honestly, I'm thinking cut Griselbrand for it due to this card being more synergic in other archetypes as ramp.dec, or control.dec. Also, this is better against removals if I'd be few life points.

To each there own, but I'd really consider keeping Griselbrand around, he's been the best fatty in our cube by mile since he got printed and has been fantastic against removal. Neither of these cards is likely going to get ramped out so I don't think the casting cost differences are really going to be dealbreakers in playrate
Besides that, love this new guy and I think it looks fantastic too. Can't wait to try it out, and will easily find a slot for us at 360 for our reanimator decks and through the breach/sneak attack decks.
Just when I was fretting about the hole that Hellkite Overlord would be leaving behind. Griselbrand is pretty highly sought after in the draft, so I welcome having another great cheat target in Black.
This is a great fatty, but the only big reanimation target I still have in black is Griselbrand, and I don't think this is better. I may try and find room somewhere else though...
Paying 7 life after a Reanimate can be tough if you don't get the lifelink. It also is more castabel and more abusable with Sneak Attack and blinky stuff.

I don't agree with this for several reasons:
- Only Reanimate and Life // Death cause you to lose life. There are plenty of other ways to cheat a Griselbrand into play.
- I typically don't play blink effects in the same deck as cheaty face effects since blink favors creature based midrange where cheaty face invests a lot into its combo / ways to dig for its combo.
- Griselbrand is way more abuseable with Sneak Attack since it draws you 7-14 cards to set up more Sneak Attack activations.
It's really hard to beat the raw power of Griselbrand / castability of Grave Titan. This card is really good, but I think it's the #3 black super fattie at best.
Definitely can replace Sheoldred for this card guy. While Sheoldred can sometimes be hardcast, the effects here are immediate, which makes it so much better.
