Souped up Eternal Dragon. Cheaper upfront, and waaaay easier to recur (although you can only do it once). I've always considered Emeria's Call to be the successor to Eternal Dragon, but now we have a true heir. Easy 2 for 1 that has a much better play pattern than the original Eternal Dragon. If you support Standstill, this is one of the best cards since eternalize doesn't count as a spell. I'll be testing this one out for sure.
I like that it's a cost-efficient 4-drop you're all but guaranteed to reach with a 3-land hand... but it doesn't set the fastest clock.
I like that being a token can have random synergies... though I'm not running those synergies.
I like that randomly discarding this card to a faithless looting or throwing this card away to a wrath doesn't feel bad... but Imagine that I'd honestly feel better off with a typical reanimation target in those situations.
I like that this card always seems like a cost-efficient beater... but Baneslayer and Lyra are cost-comparable beaters that both trade positively against this card and that gain life in the process.
This seems like the sort of card that you put in explicitly for its versatility... or maybe if you have a cycling package or are running a tribal dragon cube?
I've never seen Eternal Dragon's recursion ability used more than once in a single game, so Timeless Dragon just looks better to me in every way. Um... yeah, this card is really good.
I hope you guys are right but this card just seems weak to me. Hard to answer, expensive fliers aren't really what white wants to be doing. In the land mode I'm just struggling to think of a non stax list that would want to pay 2 to get a land and pay 4 to get a flier.
I love Eternal Dragon but do not cube it anymore (mostly because the return is upkeep only). I like the possibilities this card represents and will likely include it.
I like the card, I don't love that in its most common mode (planescycling -> 4/4) it's so vulnerable to bounce. I like the flexibility of it (get a resilient threat if you don't need the land, get the land + a threat if you do) and will test, as I have some white 5's I can rotate out for a bit.
Not to threadjack but there has to be a better cut than Angel of Invention. I think Angel is a tier 1 creature.
The more I think about this card the more I like it. I think actually cutting a 4 drop is correct for me. I also love the fact that it can grab duallands.
Card is cool, just seems a little unimpactful imo. Probably sweet past like 540+ though, and I'm sure it has a lot of cool synergies available in bigger cubes.
Feels very bland. I'm actually a little disappointed it didn't lean heavier on cycling; I've been wanting an Astral Slide / Astral Drift deck in my cube forever but it feels like 9/10 of cycling cards are just kinda bad. This is like, okay, but there are plenty of more interesting and more powerful 4 and 5 drops that already exist.
I think the Dragon is a good midrange card against traditional control builds. It can generate its 2-for-1 value with two uncounterable effects and it adds a pretty beefy evasive threat to the board.
I feel as though this card was almost made specifically for cube in much the same way Deep Forest Hermit was. Deep Forest Hermit improved upon a card that is still a cube staple for most though whereas this improves upon a card that is now well outside of most lists. I don't think this is better than any of the 5CC Angel Triad (Lyra, Avacyn, Invention) despite the flexibility it offers. What I could see people doing, including myself, is cutting Sun Titan for this.
I really like this direction of "modal" cards that could be cast on 2 with cycling, kicker, Baleful Mastery. Fewer non-games from lack of lands/ incorrect colors.

I'm actively maintaining a comprehensive article to help explain to new cube players how some complex vintage level cards work in a cube environment. Vintage Cube Cards Explained
Somebody brought up Timeless Dragon's application in Legacy / Vintage Standstill decks since it plays similar to Shark Typhoon in those shells. That made me realize that even without Standstill applications, Timeless Dragon actually has A LOT in common with Shark Typhoon, which really raises my opinion of it.
Do people still play Sun Titan? Card kind of sucks imo. Uncastable in aggro, all colors of control can do better things for that much mana.
Anyway Avacyn can be really absurd, but there’s no way I’m taking or playing inventions or a baneslayer variant over this in aggro, midrange or control. They aren’t enough better on 5+ mana to compensate for being so worse on 2-4. But, they are better to topdeck when you’re at 5. So I dunno about comparing this against 5s at all —- it seems to have more in common with Night’s Whisper, Bonecrusher, Borrower, kind of stuff

I primarily play limited, so most of my spoiler season comments view cards through that lens.
Sun Titan has been on the chopping block for us for a while, but it would be weird for us to cut it if we are adding the Esper Walker, as that is one of the best hits for it printed in years.
I’m considering “cheating” and cutting a 4-drop instead of a 5-drop for this since the best mode of the card is to cycle and then eternalize.

Largely because it’s not so much a 5 drop as a land that draws a cheap midsize flier, but hey.

this card is strong, but not too many homes I can think of outside of midrange or good stuff.
Regardless , definitely worth testing. Think it'll pass the testing phase, but I could see it being too clunky.
It’s a bit mana intensive but it does so much.

I can see an argument for Avacyn / Angel of Invention being better, but I like TImeless Dragon way more than Lyra / Baneslayer Angel.
