Boros's take on Abrade / Abrupt Decay. Not going to face and being a sorcery hurts, but I think the versatility more than makes up for it. Not going to face doesn't stop people running Abrade and being an instant didn't stop people running Dreadbore. While I think do prefer Lightning Helix for being just as versatile due to it gaining life, going to face, and being instant speed, I can see a lot of people swapping out Boros Charm for this, which is probably what I'm going to be doing. Can't go wrong with running this, especially in a powered cubes where the Disenchant effect is at its best.
Uff, that is really difficult. I can see people cutting Boros Charm for this, but I am not sure that is what I want to do. I have a soft spot for Boros Charm and I like it as an additional burn card. But this might really be better. I would definetly make the swap for an instant speed version of this, but as is I am torn. Need to playtest this, I don't think I can make a useful verdict by theorycrafting.
Not going to the face has had me pull abrade from time to time. What stopped me from running dredbore is the fact that efficient removal no longer excites me for gold cards. Yes I still run some of them. I won't blame anyone for running this but I loathe to take up guild slots with cards like this. I find it like this will just be a give to the boros drafter or person with ample fixing late in a pack rather than make anyone go into the guild.
I like this more than Lightning Helix, but not Boros Charm. The lifegain doesn't matter much. That said it's super solid, and I'm going to run it. It's very versatile.
I am thinking about how many cards this can destroy in my Cube. A lot! Boros has so many instants it can run, a two mana sorcery won't slow those decks down much.
It’s going to seriously hurt cutting the Boros Charm + Wrath or Armageddon combo, but I do think this outperforms on avg case against Boros Charm.
this thread has got me thinking about gold removal. In my head, I could never really consider cutting assassin‘s trophy, because it’s like the best removal smell ever printed, and that’s the point of my cube. But only having three gold cards per guild, I definitely want to value those slots highly for splashiness and fun.
If anybody else is having slot struggles, one thing I’ve done with great results is moving all of my single-pip hybrid cards and phyrexian mana cards into a small 10 card “color flex” section by itself, similar to how some people do 3-color cards. Up til now, I’ve left Kitchen Finks & Saheeli in gold slots, since they are harder to monocast. Just a suggestion!
Really high floor, versatile card. Unimpressive but ok ceiling. Don't want your cube over saturated with removal like this, but should definitely have some.
Think it's one of the better 2 mana removal spells in the game.

I think people over-fantasize what their gold section should be. Gold cards are just an extension of what XY color combination can do, I think people put too much weight in them being reasons to go into XY color combination / signposts when that responsibility can fall to any card(s). I've never heard of drafters say "gee, I wish these gold cards were more flashy and fun!" I see that as an issue that cube designers make up in their head that no players actually would ever think about.
Cant really tell of I like it over Boros Charm or Helix. If I can manage to obtain one then will just go ahead and test. (And by test I mean never - because we never get to play anymore due to the pandemic )

I dunno, there was a time when my Golgari section was, like, decay, pulse, deed, and putrefy, and people definitely noticed and talked about it.
And even if it IS something just cube designers worry about, well, it's my cube! I want to have cards in it I like and find fun! It's not like the group is gonna notice that the guild sections are not all the most powerful removal spells either.
Yeah, exactly this. It can be noticeable, so I chose to limit my gold cards to two (out of five) “removal” spells per color pair. Just personal preference, and I totally get the desire to have efficient answers too.
I think Rip Apart will probably replace Helix for me. I like Boros Charm too much to cut it. Going 4 to face, giving things indestructible, and even the double strike mode have all been extremely valuable and I just dig modal spells. I am a huge fan of Boros Charmageddon.
I think having guild sections with efficient removal spells that can remove more than just creatures is a fine place to be.
this kills almost all creatures in my cube 3 cmc or less (except for walls), and still deals with a very good chunk of creatures that cost 4-5 mana.
+ all the artifact creatures and other artifacts and enchantments, and can interact with most PW putting them into killable. I think this is a fine replacement for lightning helix, especially for those that support any versions of RW control. This may push me to want to replace a red sorcery burn spell for an instant though.
This hits a ton of stuff, and more flexible artifact/enchantment removal is always welcome. Definite inclusion for us. As an aside the name feels spectacularly violent for a Boros card

This is probably actually a better card than anything in my Boros section, but I like my boros section, it's all fun, interesting cards!

The card is playable everywhere, and will be no matter how many broken boros mythic creatures they print. But nobody should feel obligated to play it.
