Well, it's a nonbo with half the enablers, but you only need/want one enabler on the table anyways, so it's still extra redundancy. And blanking cards can very much be an upside as much as it can be a drawback. Blanking all those cards is a selling point more than a flaw, IMO.
This set is insanity. I feel there are going to be a lot of Cube winners here. Some big bodies, cycling, enchant creature auras without their primary drawback--losing their target (a.k.a. Mutate), and at least 1 hugely impactful companion card that you can cast from your sideboard as if it is in your hand. Not to mention a ton of variety in aesthetics for many of these cards.
As for the Moth, in addition to being a great persist combo enabler, it also strikes me as a potentially strong aggro finisher. You can play this on turn four and swing with impunity knowing that whatever they can block and kill will come back as an evasive threat which can close out the game. I think I may be taking out God-Eternal Oketra for this one and for those still running the Lark' I emphatically endorse switching that out for this.
I’m interested. It feels like a giant Selfless Spirit (note the nonbo though). Both protect you for overextending. i dont have the persist combo but it can appear from time to time. Mothra art is insane.
EDIT : I still have Exalted Angel, replacing that with Mothra!!
It's a lightning rod for removal if I've ever seen one.
Performance seems like it will be very swingy depending on how removal heavy your environment is and if you support persist combo.
A 4 drop that gets no value if answered immediately will feel bad. But if it lives more than a turn or two, it could be great. Reminds me a little of Hero of Bladehold. I wouldn't call it broken.
The moth is solid, but unfun? Absurdly broken?? Is it even in the top 200 Cube cards?
A card that brings any creature back to life automatically? I dunno, maybe it needs to be tested properly but seems absurdly broken and unfun. No reason to print such a creature really.
But, it doesn't bring any creature back. It can't have the Flying ability. And it gives the creature Flying after it comes back.
So, if you're not specifically going for Persist, and just going off raw value, you should note where it falls flat. It's not even triggering when you lose a Selfless Spirit, or Flickerwisp, or Restoration Angel, or Reveillark, or Mulldrifter, and up to maybe 20% of your cube's creature pool. And, you still have to have a pretty solid board state to get the value. Like, can you just freely play 3s, 4s, 5s without your opponent getting the chance to remove stuff? This guy can just eat any doom blade variant and you literally get no value.
I'm playing this guy over Gisela, the Broken Blade in my Modernish 360 Cube mainly as a white-weenie curve-topper as I don't support combo-play, but I'm excited to see how else people use this card. My general philosophy for supporting colors is play to their strengths while also trying to shore-up their weaknesses. Wrath-effects are a core component in control decks so I run all of the usual, modern-legal ones at 360 giving it a density. Wraths are the bane of white-weenie strategies and this card can help that deck in this match-up.
