The card seems very good, I estimate it to be 4th best in Dimir. It can protect itself and starts with high loyalty. It can ultimate quickly, and the milling is another viable way to win against control. I am going to cut Enter the God-Eternals for it.
As much as I want to support artifact.dec this card appears to be generally better than Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas outside of that specific shell and thus will probably replace it. I also like that this does mill in an incremental and unique way that is more interactive than something like Jace, Memory Adept. Also triggering on attack/block as opposed to when you damage the player is pretty huge.
Not bad, especially since Ashiok has the same exact numbers as Liliana, Death's Majesty. Ashiok's +1 is stronger, but Ashiok's -3 is a bit weak, IMO. Definitely a serviceable planeswalker, but Ashiok won't be cracking my Dimir section.
I play a variety of cubes, mine and my friends', powered, unpowered, and theme cubes. In powered cube, five mana is too much for this set of abilities, and I think the other Dimir cards are better, including 3-cmc Ashiok. In unpowered cube, I could see this being a decent option, though I still think old Ashiok is better, the abilities are more relevant in a slower format. Still, five is a lot more than three mana when you remember mana doesn't increase linearly. In theme cubes or lower power cubes, this card could be good, but it's rather boring and doesn't compliment any commonly played archetypes, except maybe mill, for which old Ashiok is probably better.
All in all, I like seeing more variety in the characters they are representing on cards, but I'm not looking to pick up this Ashiok for cube.
