Seems like a great red aggro beater. It's not that long ago that many of us were running Borderland Marauder, and this seems like a pretty meaningful upgrade.
I think this is probably the best of the combat trick adventures, but still doesn't get there for me. Would've been really cool if it boosted toughness, allowing you to actually save creatures. That, or another toughness or evasion would've gone a long way.
I think reckless charge is closest comparison for a staple cube card. Instant is great but +2 without the haste or first strike is really meh. I liek this card more than most but it is too fair for me and really points out how gross some of the other adventure creatures are that are no downside.
Really takes me back to when I tried to make Skinbrand Goblin work; which, honestly, I think was a lot closer than people in my group anticipated. But, we've also gotten plenty of better cards since then, so he's only fallen further back in terms of playability.
The baseline is poor, but not so unreasonable that I would dismiss it outright. There are a few red creatures who may genuinely really like the buff (Kari Zev, and other creatures who already have first strike, or Krenko, who will yield more tokens). Expendable creatures (White tokens, Black recurring 1-drops & 2-drops) might also get some benefit from the buff spell. But, I'm uncertain how much those decks also want the 3/1; I think a RB aggro deck might genuinely be interested in maximizing creature content and squeezing in the buff spell. White decks will probably be a bit more midrangey and won't value it nearly as highly. I can't really see G or U decks wanting it at all.
I guess it comes down to how likely you are to make aggro decks with high creature counts. If you're running like 20+ creatures at cmc3 or less, it starts to look appealing. That deck is a little infrequent here, so at the moment I think I'm leaning towards skipping.
Neither the creature half nor the spell half gets there on their own merits, but I do think y'all are undervaluing the flexibility of being a 1 mana instant, a 2 mana creature, or both. Successful aggro decks want effect density more than they care about card quality. If I can jam in a creature that provides a little extra flexibility while fulfilling it's primary purpose of being a cheap attacker, I'm in. At least for testing.
I wish this guy had 4 toughness, but it's not a deal breaker. We run several X/1 aggro dudes at 2 mana.

4 toughness? A 3/4 for 1R? With a nice adventure bonus?
I feel compelled to repeat everything I hear
