It's probably good in a powered cube running workshop, academy, et al, like the vintage cube. I don't think it would be very good in an unpowered cube.
Might be a surprise to a lot of people, but it often ended up being a 3/3 or a 4/4. The dream scenario of playing it as a late game finisher happens a lot less. But the aggresive 3/3 or 4/4 play might be slightlt sub par on paper, but in practice it feels ok. Mind you, not super duper great, but decent.
It might be a slightly bit better in powered but not much. Because realistically you will only get the perfect artifact.dec once in a while.
This card being good was the surprise of the century for us, but it has slowly become more and more respected since we initially added it. I’m not sure how the fast mana makeup affects my assessment of the card, but we’ve found that it’s good in a variety of strategies from aggro to “the artifact deck,” and there are some specific card synergies which together make the card versatile in a lot of different decks.
Opinions on this card? Especially for cubes without fast mana.
I like it. Being scaleable makes it versatile, and it adds to your artifact count for artifact matters type cards. Also, artifact decks tend to play a good amount of ramp anyways, so this is a nice mana sink for it. My cube also has a lot of multicolored removal, so it dodges a good amount of removal. It's not a all-star or anything, but the versatility / scaleability makes it a solid role player.
This boi can't get Elked or yoinked by Oko, Knight of Autumn'd, shattered by Kolaghan's/Prismari Commands, blocked by hamsters, hurt by Minsc, Vindicated, stolen by Dack, Trophy'd, Helix'd, Defiler'd, Fractured, bounced by 3feri, Pup'd, killed by Grist or blocked by insects. He's always a decent 23rd in artifact.dec or ramp. He blocks fliers, blocks any sword, can be cast on any turn, tramples over planeswalker blockers, likes being 4/4'd by Tezz, and can win you the game with Channel.
Lots of these are corner cases, marginal upsides or just unexciting. But they reveal how ubiquitously reasonable he is in many decks, in many matchups, on many turns. There are stronger cards for this slot, but there aren't many colorless creatures as maindeckable. If you want to spend 1 colorless slot on a card that every player might maindeck every time you draft, try him out.

100% agree Sauce, card is truly that good. i have it in my micro degenerate cube
It didn't perform well in initial testing, and wasn't part of my first wave of adds from the set. After a ton of high praise from other cubers, I added it back into my cube. It was meh. It's an okay card that makes the maindeck if you're hard up for playables, but that was it. We cut it for underperforming, and I don't expect it to be back.
I had a few good experiences with it on MTGO vintage cube, so I decided to test it in mine.
It Never saw play outside of artifact decks and in those shells it was nothing more than filler.
Didn’t have a very large sample, but I eventually cut it for underperforming.
I don’t hate including it if you support artifact synergies , but for me it falls short of a slot.

This is where I'm at on the card. I put aggro in all four colors, so any colorless creature that can be picked and be played at any point in the game is very good and has a lot of relevant keywords. Exciting? No. Flashy? No. Reliable? You betcha.

This is still the best place for high-power-level cube chat & debate.
