More competition for Whirler Rogue / God-Eternal Kefnet has arrived. Probably stronger than Whirler Rogue in a dedicated artifact deck, but weaker outside that specific shell. Being able to tap my Sensei's Divining Top for mana is pretty cool. Also, did I mention that this has 5: Mind's Desire?
Whirler Rogue is sweet, but I'm going to make that swap almost certainly. The ceiling on this card is just too high. The floor is worst than Whirler Rogue, but I think enough decks will be able to achieve a high enough average case. The fact that you can tap artifacts immediately for mana is just crazy. Letting all of the walkers that make servos/thopters also produce mana is pretty fantastic.
If you support the artifact deck this is a total bomb. If you don't support the artifact deck this is a good reason to start. If you have 2 other artifacts (ACS?) when you resolve Urza he adds 4 power to the board, ramps you between 1 and 3 mana, and gives you a mana sink. Nuts. My favorite thing about this guy? He makes Winter Orb INSANE. Whirler Rogue is probably my cut as well.
The EDH/constructed potential of this card kind of makes me surprised they printed it.
wtf. Did they build this card specifically for powered cube?
The activated ability is an absurd mana sink AND urza provides defensive value over two bodies.
There's zero matchups I don't like this card. Only downside is it requires other artifacts to be great.
At first glance I like this more than any of the artifact.dec planeswalkers. It also defends and works with those planeswalkers well!
Looking at my cube, the best like cut will be The Antiquities War. It was probably one of the most fun new cards from last year, but it’s a lot more narrow compared to Urza.
He is definitely goong in my artifact cube... and probably replacing Whirler Rogue.
For regular cubes he may go in for the same reason, but artifacts will maatter less there. A lot of artifacts already produce mana :). I am going to pass for regular cube for now.
I read this card twice initially trying to figure out why everyone is so pumped at this guy. Kept reading it as create a single 0/0. Sort of missed the whole, for each artifact you control part lol. Card seems like an awesome build around. The question for this guy is going to be what to cut. I think I will need to cut an artifact deck card not necessarily a blue 4 drop.
Edit:
Looking at my deck list, I didn't realize how many artifact deck support cards there are.
I like the Symmetry of 3 dual colored planeswalkers each in there own guild that can contribute to the deck.
After a quick glance through my cube, I don't think I'll be cutting any artifact matters cards for this. My cube is just going to have to find a spot for him. I think The artifact deck is starting to get pretty saturated though. It's sort of comparable to how you have Ramp and cheat in to play cards in green and there is a fair amount of overlap between the two, for the artifact package, there is the cheat into play / tinker mode, and the ramp with this guy, Tolarian Academy, and of course all the artifacts
On a side note, This guy along with the newest Saheeli might allow opposition to play in the artifact and spells archetype more.
I don't think I want to cut Whirler Rogue, but Urza is pretty damn good. Should I remove Kefnet for it even though I literally just added that card? Decisions, decisions.
Am I greedy to think this somehow isn’t good enough? I mean, many of the artifacts in cube tap for mana or have things you’d rather be doing with them anyway... and the mana sink is kinda expensive... but artifact decks can make so much mana... nah card’s gonna be great lol.
dont know whether to cut kefnet or rogue. rogue plays so well in the artifact deck with thopter foundry. kefnet doesnt have synergy with any other cards really.
I'm keeping Kefnet because it's a "Baneslayer," and most of blue's creatures are "Mulldrifters." Having that kind of threat diversity is important. Gonna drop the Twin package.
I will definitely be trying Urza out. He comes with a threat, a mana sink and provides the mana to put into it. The 1/4 body is nice too as it's out of bolt range and is a decent blocker. I think he'll be sticking around in my Cube for a while.
I don't have a 4CC cut for this. I'm probably just going to cut Kira, Great Glass-Spinner. I don't think this is an incredible 4 drop for unpowered cubes, but there's no way I can't test this--if only for the Winter Orb synergies!
What are people's opinion on MR. Lord High(I really hate that title) in umpowered cubes? Is he still as good as he seems? He just seems great at any time. Good on the defense, good at curving out, endless mana sink late game.

I still support Tinker in an unpowered cube. If you have any big artifact mana ramp strategy or artifact synergies in general, Urza will be a very strong payoff.
I think I want it but I'm going to have to piece together this stuff. The canopy lands are going to be $100-125 for a set; Vista is preordering at $30; Urza is preordering for $80. And we're a a quarter of the way through spoilers. This is going to be a $200 update, easily, and probably way more.

It is just a single 0/0.
...except every instant and sorcery in your deck?
Honestly, Kefnet is so unique in what it does, I would rather cut Whirler. But I don’t run Whirler - so easy choice for me.

Except it's secretly a 1/1. *shhhh*
Technically it's more like a blue Llanowar Elves ...with pseudo-haste... that can grow in size, but that's not important I guess.
