Ancient Stone Idol (10)
Artifact Creature — Golem {R}
Flash
Ancient Stone Idol costs 1 less to cast for each attacking creature.
Trample
When Ancient Stone Idol dies, create a 6/12 colorless Construct artifact creature with trample.
12/12
---
Interesting Big Robot variant with a built-in combat trick and cost reduction ability, albeit quite a niche one.
A 12/12 trample is beastly and it has built in failsafe by making a mere 6/12 trample to replace it. It looks very good with Sneak Attack and Feldon and the likes. The cost reduction could be a nasty surprise against tokens, but I think this warrants discussion as a big beefy boi for cheaty shenanigans.
I like it. Great with Sneak Attack / Tinker, solid reanimator target, replaces itself, is castable as a combat trick. I’ve been the market for a new Tinker target to at least replace Bosh, will probably be running this at 540.
I assume he vies it as being a 4-7 mana 12/12 that you would cast during your combat phase as a token deck. I don't think it is that attractive but Ido like the sneak attack/tinker options

Totally missed that, I assumed it was just triggering on opponent attacking!
You know, that may be solid, something like a 7-8 mana 12/12 with wrath insurance ain't bad and it can be cast after damage is dealt (ala Maze of Ith) to help gauge things better/possibly taking advantage of an opponent tapping low on mid-combat removal. Probably more a mode B but... it's something!
Yeah, like, clearly you want to cheat it out with Tinker or Sneak Attack or something, I was just musing if the alternative were viable. I'm gonna guess mostly not, but I think it would be kinda hilarious to send in your Hero of Bladehold and 2 other creatures to make a 12/12 trample your turn 5 in an aggressive deck.
I actually like this guy. A 12/12 trample is big, the death trigger is a solid insurance policy, and it slots well into multiple different decks. It's great with Sneak/Breach/Feldon, good with Tinker/Channel/Show/Etc, solid in reanimator and fringe playable in creature-heavy/token midrange decks. It does kinda a lot of different things.
Pretty cool card. I reallllly doubt im playing this outside of any deck that can't cheat it in, but in those decks he may be good enough.
probably worth testing
Maybe I’m comparing this too harshly to Wurmcoil Engine, but this feels like it fills a really similar role while being uncastable in fair decks and quite a lot worse at stabilizing the board. It’s really not the best fatty at any one thing either, which is a bit of a red flag for me.
It’s definitely not unplayable and cubes are always looking for crossover between methods of cheating in fatties, but this strikes me as low on the totem pole.

Wurmcoil Engine is definitely the better card, but this also has twice the power + trample. The ability to just get in there and dome your opponent twice is very threatening. This is lower on the totem pole for me because I play 5 Eldrazi Titans + Blightsteel Colossus already, but I've wanted a replacement for Bosh for a long time and this fits the bill quite nicely.
I've been desperately looking for more robots, I've tried Bosh and even the red gearhulk and they both failed miserably. I like how it fits basically all cheat decks. While it is poor on defense, it does kill very quickly and has a good death trigger.
I didn't think much of this guy when I first saw it spoiled but once I swapped out my commander glasses for my cube glasses... I think I like it. It's Wurmcoil level good in Sneak Attack decks and decent in other combo builds, I think this definitely deserves a slot. I don't see it being hardcast often and most reliably it will be cast on offense, but that's cool. I'll be very happy to test.
I like this card, but can't figure out what to cut. I'm not running Blightsteel Colossus, because I find that uninteresting, but even barring that, I think I like my current options more. Interested to see others' thoughts on it after testing, though!

Yeah this is kind of how I feel. I would love another artifact creature that I'd be content to play in all of the cheaty archetypes that is reasonably hardcastable. The drop off in power from the commonly cubed expensive artifact creatures, and the next tier is sooo large.
I think the Stone idol may be the best of the next tier, but that really doesn't say much.. I included it in my 3 cubes last night and it didn't find a home. Not a good initial start.
This does enough things that I'm interested. As a cheat target, it's not as backbreaking as Sundering Titan or as game-ending as Blightsteel Colossus, but depending on the match-up, this can be much easier to hard-cast. If this card is cheap in a few months, I'd love to add it.
I don’t expect it to be playable in aggro decks, but if it is that would be really cool cross pollination between two archetypes that have almost no overlap whatsoever.
I really like this card. I find an element missing from higher level cubes in combat tricks, and this has one built in for late game, on top of being an enabler for a wide variety of cheat into play decks. And being able to cast this for 7 normally is not unrealistic.
Best card in the set so far, and I'll be glad to try it out in my 360 list.
Has played very good so far! The cheaper casting cost has been used (in both directions, as an attacker and in defence), it has been reanimated (tutored for being the fastest clock with entomb) and even plain hardcasted.
Yea this guy is a keeper at powered 360. Although it’s never been casted here, it’s still the stone cold nuts. Card closes out games unimaginably quickly.
I'm very interested in how this card has performed. That's 2 good recommendations - how has it played for others, and in what cube size?

I wonder if some token decks would want to play it themselves?
Why would they do that?
