I love Liliana of the veil and Liliana heretical healer in 360 powered, both are great and I've never had complaints about either, while I'll agree this is the worst of the three upon first glance, I still think its plenty cubable, everytime I theory craft with it it gets better, I'll try her out in a draft this weekend and see how relevant her +1 is (as that will be what makes or breaks her). though three PW's at 1BB might be pretty annoying, I'm reinventorying and updating my cube right now so I'm going to try to find an appropriate cut. The Jace Dilemna is spreading to black.
Does anyone have more recent results with new Liliana? I decided not to pick her up initially but lots of people I know say I should add her for sure and seem surprised when I say I didn't pick one up. Does she play much better than she looks?
I'm still waiting for mine to get in, got one off eBay and they told me they accidentally sent me two, but niether have shown up yet, real excited to test her out though.
This is an argument I've seen lot. Capping the number of walkers per color. What is the purpose behind it? I don't get it. No offence, I just want to understand. For me, long-term speaking, it prevents his manager from adding good cards to the cube. Also, more and more planeswalkers are going to be print and cap them to a specific and rigid number won't give them a chance to see play, even if they legitimely worth a spot. Unfortunately, it's seems to be happening to LtLH.
Agreed, Zetsu. The one thing I kind of see is that planewalkers can be absurdly powerful, so I can understand why someone who tries to control the power level of their cube by leaving out P9, Sol Ring, etc would also put a cap on the number of planeswalkers per color. With that said, I still don't think that's necessary even in unpowered cubes. The good thing about planeswalkers is that, while they are powerful, they aren't always hard to get rid of. They kill themselves by ticking down, they die in combat, they die to burn, and we've gotten several solid "destroy target planeswalker" options recently. People are going to draft planeswalkers because they're good. Make sure you draft answers accordingly and you shouldn't have an issue.
I don't cap walkers, but my standard for them is pretty high. I don't think planeswalkers saturation is a problem as long as your cube has plenty of efficient creatures and a good number of removal spells for them. Same with the swords, they were super OP back when my cube was new and clunky, but making my cube more efficient + having more answers to it made them much less game breaking.
Yeah Liliana has been incredible, turns out adding loyalty to remove or stunt creatures and then ending with an ultimate that actually wins the game almost every time it goes off is really good. Plus when the second ability is dope, it's the ******* dopest.
I don't keep a hard cap on planeswalkers, but definitely a soft cap. It's the same kind of balancing you should do for any other card type. Simply adding every new good planeswalker without discretion would quickly lead to overpopulation of them compared to non-planeswalker cards at the rate they are being printed (at least one per set now). Especially so if your cube size never increases.
I think this will be less and less of an issue as they continue to print quality answers to PWs. Plus PWs aren't the be-all-end-all; I've seen enough games where incremental advantage does nothing for you, cube is a place where you can definitely make something like tokens every turns seem lame as ****.
I don't want more than one per guild or more than, say, four or so in a 70 card section. It's not that I'm worried about there not being enough answers, because these days, there are. It's just that I can't stand the superfriends-style decks in EDH and I don't want my cube environment to promote that. For me it's a bigoted decision, just like not including morphs because I don't care for the mechanic.

I'm planning on swapping nekrataal for the new liliana, (just got her in today) I have no problem with walkers as they are the most interactive card type in the game. Creatures and walkers lead to interactive gameplay and I'm all for it.

Master of the Feast seems like a far better cut than Nekrataal.
This Liliana is absolutely insane. I prefer her to Lily of the Veil, no joke. When her +1 isnt just protecting her, it's also preventing your opponent from playing ANY looter or mana dork in the entire cube (or just killing the one on board). The -2 usually reads "draw a relevant creature card."
Raise dead is surprisingly useful on an otherwise relevant body, this saw play as part of a simic combo deck that used timewalk and eternal witness. Also killed some dudes in other games, never saw her ultimate but I like her. Both other Lilianas are great too, dunno how I'd honestly rank them, because I run all 3 at 390.
I just use her for a regular zombie deck since its fun. But will she ever go down in price before she rotates out of standard?
This is the cube forum, and probably not by a lot if at all.
Yeah, I have begun to wait for the Standard staples to rotate before I buy them. Paying $30 for a card that will soon be $5 just seems silly. The side benefit is I get to read not only our theory crafting but cube experiences with cards before adding them in to mine.

A shorter standard season is generally a great thing for cube owners.
