Feldon is great but this fits into more decks and can go into anything that Feldon can. That being said, I won't be surprised if Magus of the SORCERY is a cycle.
Seems better than Feldon to me, it's playable both in aggro and in decks that do something with the graveyard. Not sure if we'll find a cut for this, but it's a solid card worth a look.
In my book this is a 1,000,000% slam dunk. ITS A CUBABLE DRAW SEVEN ON A DECENT STICK. Wow. Wow. Wow. I'm in love. Being able to Wheel at instant speed on the opponent's EOT and untap with a full grip is crazy.
Also, Pat Sajak is a great nickname for this card. Nice one,BtM.
EDIT: Just realized he has to tap to get the effect. That cools me off a little bit, but I still think this is a great cube card and I will be testing it for sure.
I don't think this is better than Feldon, but I do think it's pretty appealing. Not sure how much I like the fact that it has to tap for the effect, since I can't take advantage of the body and use the ability in the same turn cycle. Will test it out, but I'm not optimistic that it will remain a permanent addition.
Instant speed wheel of fortune makes this a must kill.
Though there will be two entire turns for this to be maximized since you want to activate him at end of opponents turn.
Before then it is still good, though.
3cc vanilla 3 drop is decent also. I feel like its a wheel of fate (suspend) with the obvious differences. (Type, cost)
Just yesterday, after running it for over nine years, I've finally cut Wheel of Fortune from my cube. And today, they preview a Wheel on a stick? Lol.
Everyone was severely underwhelmed with Wheel, so I don't know if I should even test this guy. Then again, in some situations, he is definitely better than Wheel. Wheel at the end of your opponent's turn is a hundred times better than having to waste most of your own turn for this effect, basically giving your opponent the first full turn with a new grip of cards. Also, this is still a 3/3 for 3 in situations where you don't want to Wheel. Hm.
Wheel of Fortune is one of red's best spells, but squeezing the effect into the right casting window is critical. That's much harder to do with a card that telegraphs itself for multiple turns and can get killed in-between. Activating as an instant is great, but your opponent being able to disrupt it and/or prepare for the effect is not.
I do like that they are willing to print red 3 mana 3/3. Most 3 mana creatures are whimpy. I can see this being part of a curve out and then flushing him whne he is outclassed or if you just need a full grip of burn for the win.
The tap part stinks, activation mana isn't much but kind of stinks. No haste, or first strike, meance or sith ability to really make him valuable as a creature alone. I do like him in a deck with feldon (I don't know why people would think of removing that card). Supports reanimator. A tough call but I don't see it lasting.
For those removing a vandal for the Fiery Confluence, this may be a nice 3 drop to try.
Yeah I don't know either why some are suggesting Feldon as a potential cut. I personally won't cut Feldon for this Wheel of Fortune guy. Don't mean that I don't like the card though. In fact, I find it really interesting. But Feldon reprensent just so much fun and creativeness from a red magic card. Red mages were looking for those types of card since years and we finally got one in CMD14. This new guy is cool too, but I think that maybe they need to be in the cube together.

Looks like Pat is more aggressive than all but rabblemaster. Will utility make up for lack relevant keyword? I always forget how whimpy red 3s are. (Cool but whimpy)

I bet he gets played this way a lot, but I have two thoughts about this: 1) When played on curve he's a decently aggressive 3 drop for red, but no better than Endless One (lol). It's definitely hard to get super siked for him as a beater because he doesn't have a keyword. 2) If you want to wheel EOT Magus will have to sit out for your last attack phase before you use him. Obvious statement is obvious, but it does hurt his ability to apply pressure AND get the draw seven. That said, wheeling as a sorcery for 1R after a couple attacks with him is a super great value, so in some games saving the activation for EOT may not even be the right play. The tap ability really does bifurcate his usefulness as a draw seven and a beater, but I think he's good enough at both to warrant extended testing.
Being a creature makes him really abuseable, and while you don't typically want to wheel several times a game, it does open up the possibility of setting up a janky mill combo on opponents who are drawing more cards than you. Janky, but hilarious.
I'm not sold... But i find it hard to evaluate him. wheel is a busted card so a clearly worse wheel with mostly disadvantages and a couple of advtanges Still could be a strong card.
I would like to see how the scenario where he lives a turn plays out in the average game.
I'm also skeptical but I think it's still worth testing. I think this card works a lot like Memory Jar where you get to use the 7 cards first. Being a creature and being able to spread out the 5 mana over two turns is quite nice.
Nothing wrong with an on curve beater with upside. If he lives through the early game war then you can ditch him for a new hand of burn to hopefully finish your opponent off. He seems decent enough but without haste/first strike/menace and needing to tap for the ability, he's nothing broken. Wheel of Fortune is so good because you can catch your opponent off guard, forcing them to discard a grip of spells while fueling up yourself. This guy is no surprise. I definitely see him as a 3/3 for three with late game upside. Should find a home in bigger cubes.
Ya, it'll play more like a red Memory Jar than a Wheel, and that's not bad if you're doing a lot of interesting things in red. And for aggro, you can beat down for 3 a couple times and then cash him in for reach/gas in the late game. I don't think this is near the realm of Wheel in terms of powerlevel, but it's certainly a powerful and interesting effect that's worth playtesting.
Magus of the Wheel 2R
creature-Human wizard
1R, Tap, sacrifice Magus of the wheel: each player discards his or her hand, then draws seven cards.
3/3
Very excited for this card; having a 3/3 body is serviceable, and having an instant speed Wheel effect on a body is very, very good.

This one is actually pretty solid though and I am always looking for a solid 3 drop in red. His 2R casting cost also makes him easy to splash in.
I will certainly be testing it.
