Ashiok is still pretty amazing. If they cant keep the pressure on it it will just start eating their deck and casting their spells.
Ashiok's plus ability will also eventually win games on its own in a way that is difficult to interact with, in a slow control game exileing 9 cards and soaking up 9 damage goes a long way to milling them out.
Getting to hit opinets with their own silver-bullets/finishers is also great fun.
In a cube review I realised that I had 6 cards in my Dimir section, and the problem was that I had kept Psychatog in even though I'd removed it for Ashiok. Per the above discussion this still seems to be the right choice, and I don't feel like anything has changed in the last 3 years in that regards?
Unless you're in the camp that thinks Ashiok was never better than 'Tog. In which case, yes, nothing in the last 3 years has made Ashiok better than Psychatog.

I still can’t tell if it’s ever done anything, or if its loyalty and exile are just scary.
Absolutely warps games, but it rarely puts creatures into play, or ults, or decks anybody.
