Chandra 3.0 has been very good in our cube. I've seen countless games with Chandra forking a Char, Fireblast or whatever burn spell to end the game. It turns Pyroclasm to a Wrath. It gets you both pieces of your combo deck with a Demonic Tutor. It gets obscene with Ancestral Recall, Time Walk, Cryptic Command. It's almost always a scoop after a Hymn to Tourach. Removal gets you two guys. Dreadbore gets you two walkers. Pillage, Sinkhole, Plow Under. I have to admit that Berserk is a pet card of mine... and it's plain awesome to get to swing for 4x power + trample!!
I suppose having a smaller cube gets you higher value with her -2... in any case we're really happy with her around here and she's the only Chandra I currently run.
I like chandra 3 in the spells matter counterburn deck that's sort of quickly gaining influence. Guttersnipe, young pyromancer, etc. I'm not sure If I was breaking the rules or not, but the other day I had guttersnipe and chandra 3 out, and copied time spiral, playing all the instants from my hand after the copy resolved and then a bunch more spells after the original resolved for almost 20 damage. She definitely needs the right deck, and can easily be a dead card, but when she works she WORKS.
Chandra 4.0 is pretty amazing. She is a little skill intensive (at least more so than I originally thought) in that you do need to decide whether using her +1 or her 0 is better at the time (without deck manipulation... never drew the Scroll Rack). The 4 loyalty is very relevant in that she survives early beats and her second ability being 0 instead of a -whatever adds to her survivability.
Played her in a Boros aggro deck and her +1 just wrecked. Every piece of that ability is just so relevant. The ping. The not being able to block. The mini Vortex to the dome. I don't know if I just had a really good experience but I'd go as far to say that it's one of the best +1 abilities I've seen so far. It's exactly what red wants.
If only I had the Imposing Sovereign in too... Thrun just causes so much problems.
Thrun is a right troublemaker to be sure. He's one of the reasons we still play a few Edict effects. At least Chandra can -0 to topdeck one of those, right?
6 mana, too red contingent, too expensive for mono-red, and without broken ramp to power it out early, the - ability is too symmetrical. It's just not a good 'walker for the cube.
I second this. I've been looking for falter effects for a long while. I had Nightbird Clutches in for a while, but it was somewhat weak even tho it could be used twice.
I got to cast her a few weeks ago and she was nuts! I was playing against a lot of x/1 fliers but it was good to know that "drawing" cards was still insane.
