I really hope that they aren't all 6 mana, I don't need more high cost guys in any of the guilds. I'm thinking this is more an exception than a rule though, since Gruul is all about overwhelming the opponent with brute force.

Look like DGM spoilers are coming? Hopefully I'll be more excited about them than GTC. It's the first time in cube that I have $2 dollar in a big set.
You should seriously be running Boros Charm and Experiment One. Boros Charm is unbelievably good, and much better than Slayer's Stronghold imo. Experiment One should really be in any cube that runs Wild Nacatl and supports zoo. It has played out pretty much like a second Wild Nacatl over here.

Well, the $2 I was talking about was $1 on Boros Charm and $1 on Experiment One. I don't pimp my cube.
Six damage is a lot... Worst case scenario is that they kill it right away and take six. Against any red-green deck that is pretty dangerous if not outright fatal.
Not saying he will make it into our Gruul section but he has a lot of flair and looks tempting.
I like him. Red and green both have some decent ways to cheat fatties into play, he smashes for 6 if they try to deal with him he fits nicely into reanimator or ramp and he has great flavor. He may not be on the same level as the current top Gruulies but he very well could be more fun.
Specialities about the cube: U tempo, B aggro, R slow-ish are supported. G aggro is not.
Currently trying to support tokens in all colors but blue, in different ways: W pumps them, B sacrifices them, R suicides them, G has decent-sized ones.

He's very good at first glance. Red and green could really use a second six drop in my cube, and Ruric has very relevant abilities and guarantees at least six damage. Another good gruul option and thankfully it doesn't cost 4!
Probably only worth thinking of for EDH and Multiplayer cubes. He'd certainly be worth a long, hard look as an EDH General.
Multiplayer-wise, I wish he had trample, really.
He's in competition with Rubblehulk in my cube, but there is probably enough creature-based removal (e.g. Bone Shredder, Shriekmaw, Avatar of Woe) that he might not be good enough.
That said, he'd surely shut down blue.
I liked him a lot more when I thought his ability only hit your opponent. The fact that he can hit you makes it kind of rough if they play a better fatty.

They can also just have enough blockers to eat him, or something with deathtouch like Acidic Slime. Also having to attack into an Academy Rector or something of the nature is pretty unfun.
I like the card and all, but it does have it's downsides, but in a Jund list sporting all the Nekrataals, it might just be amazingly powerful.
If you were interested in such a thing, this would be a good reason to start making big RG a thing in your cube. This dude does 2 cards worth of damage to your opponent when they try to kill him. RG is weird because diversity hurts the really good deck but I'd kinda like it if they had more identity. I'd love to drop this ******** of a Wildspeaker or Vol.
I might play this over Ghor-Clan Rampager. Ruric Thar brings a lot to the table for RG midrange, although that's a pretty sweet deck already. Maybe as a curve topper for aggro? Not getting card advantage from a six-drop sucks, though. The double Lightning Bolt can create virtual card advantage if the opponent needs it gone, but there are plenty of situations where he does nothing (deathtouchers, Nekrataals, tappers and the odd Waterfront Bouncer :D)
6-mana is too much for aggro. I like the Rampager a lot more than this guy. He needed trample.
Yeah, totes not an aggro card. Maybe aggressively getting to midrange card but rampager is still better for those decks. If you want big red or wildfire green to be more of a thing in your cube this guy seems like a neat trick. Helps get away from RG's 4 drop overload but going over the mark isn't as good as having more options under it.
