While cutting down to 450 I was wondering if this card is good enough for this size. IMO its a sttrong card with a strong effect, bur the effect seems a bit out of place for white and "only" for value its a bit weak for a five drop.
I think it's pretty good on curve. Getting back a dead Blade Splicer or Hero of Bladehold is just fine for my T5 play. And being able to bounce it, target it with things like Reveillark, grabbing it as part of a Gifts suite and everything else that makes it so much more than just a 5-drop ...it's been a really solid performer. I'd include it at 405 and certainly everything bigger.
It's in my 500 card cube and not in danger of being cut. It combos with so many cards, and I've found the echo can be a bonus pretty often (e.g., let it die to echo, Recurring Nightmare it back into play, and it comes with another creature; rinse and repeat).
I'm not sure what size would be the minimum I'd run it at, but I'd at least make an effort to keep it if I dropped down to 450.
This card hasn't been in danger of being cut since I added it, Karmic Guide looks very underwhelming but she's so synergistic with a lot of great cube cards like Lark, Mimic Vat, Survivial of the Fittest, Fauna Shaman. It's straight up value town when you cast Karmic Guide.
The echo part is actually a benefit when playing cards like Mimic Vat, Volrath's Stronghold, Lark,... etc. Also don't be afraid to pay the echo against black decks, it's a beast in those match ups.
In 6 months, the Judge Gift one would be at the cheapest, as Grand Prix judges need to sell those to pay their hotel and airport fees, creating a massive influx of desesperate sellers.
This is what I'm hoping. I expect in a year the price will be reasonable for the judge foil.
Karmic Guide is a staple ETB creature. definitely won't be leaving my 5 drop section in a long time.
Seeing the talk about this card in the This or That thread. I have never given it much thought, is it really that good? My current 5cc white creature section is:
Baneslayer Angel is usually (or was, until Kalonian Hydra) the only 5cc drop in small/medium cubes that fails the terminate test and sees plays thanks to her powerlevel rather than interaction or value.
Karmic Guide and Reveillark are on the opposite of the power VS value spectrum. You could also argue you do more fun stuff.
I haven't been a fan of the Guide for a long time. I would be likely to bring it back before Reveillark though, as it more-or-less guarantees you a creature, has fewer constraints, and doesn't need to leave play. The body of Guide is even worse but presumably if I'm using a 5 slot for shenanigans I don't care too much. I'd likely give it another shot at 450-500.
I threw Karmic Guide back in after reading itsover9000's primer. She really is awesome and abusable and just so fun to use. Adding a 5 card flex section (should really be called fun archetype flex section or something) was the best thing I've done for my cube since allowing Portal cards.
If I can grab one, I think I will try her over Eternal Dragon. The card has been played twice in the last year. Maybe we are doing it wrong, but at this point we are never gonna get on that train.
Well, lameslayer means the card is lame. If you know what makes a good cube, you know what i mean by that.
I agree that Karmic Guide can be a lot more fun than Baneslayer Angel is. So in that regard, it wins out in a big way. But in terms of raw powerlevel and the number of decks it's playable in, Baneslayer (while "lame" in that it's just a boring stat monster) is still the better card, IMHO.
And in the future, you might want to throw that contextual information into your posts instead of saying stuff like "if you rate lameslayer above karmic guide, you don't know **** about cube" because it's a rude thing to say and it just makes you come off as a troll.
And what you consider to be a good cube might not be what everybody thinks is a good cube. So keep that in mind. My playgroup (myself included) has the most fun when we're using the most powerful cards. So those two concepts aren't mutually exclusive to everyone else.
We have a very friendly community here, and it would be awesome to get your feedback so long as it's presented in a constructive way. So that same comment above could've been: "Our group didn't find Baneslayer to be a particularly fun card, so we enjoy using Karmic Guide more because it creates more memorable cube stories" ...or something like that. And it would've delivered the same information without coming off as insulting to those that share a different opinion from you. Just my $0.02.
Well said. I haven't been too impressed with Kharmic in our cube. White is in kind of a weird place with graveyard tricks. It can't compete with black, and I like black having that identity. I do enjoy exile tricks out of white, however.
I suffered from the same problem when I first started posting here.
But it's better for the community and ultimately better for you to be a pleasing poster to have discussions with. This really is an amazing group of folks here, with a ton of experience and a lot of value. Getting the most out of that is better for everybody.
And while it may seem that being curt/rude and providing detailed feedback is ultimately saying the same thing, it's really not. Explaining things takes longer, but provides more useful information that can help other posters give you more valuable feedback. So it benefits you more in the long run to try and contribute positively and constructively.
From one person that used to post like an ass, the feedback I've gotten over the last three years compared to year one has been much more positive. For other players reading my posts and for the invaluable feedback I've received from them both. I've received positive feedback since m attitude adjustment too, which confirms that people are looking for friendly helpful advice more than they're looking to be told they're an idiot for disagreeing with you.
It really is a wonderful community here, and you can help other cube managers and get help from other cube managers better by simply being a nice guy when posting. It's well worth the effort!
Look forward to hearing more of your experiences and opinions in the future. Cheers, and happy cubing!

I don't know if you are serious or not but Baneslayer is a pretty great cube card. Sure, it doesn't pass the terminate test but not everything does.
