The effect is obviously absurd. I think its the best miracle card together with Entreat the Angels. Its a way better Earthquake with miracle. Without miracle it is still ok. The question is: Is it better than Earthquake or Devil's Play or is it not comparable to those cards?
As a 5cc 1-sided Rolling Earthquake for 2, you could do worse than hardcasting Bonfire. But it's still much worse than the hardcast mode on Entreat, which is actually fair.
No it's not better than Devil's play, but it does different things. I really, really like Bonfire and planned on fully testing it before its foil got expensive. I think it's not the worst deal even when hardcast, considering how absurb a top-deck it is. Entreat the Angels is the other cubeable one IMO, but I won't test that one yet either.
Is this card bumping earthquake? Nope...and it sure isn't going to knock out my rolling earthquake.
Suffice to say, rolling earthquake is still the cream of the cream, but I might give devil's play the boot.
I have read some people's comments on not liking the miracle mechanic due to its swinging nature. But if you are already playing with Power and other big mama cards in your 360/450, I dont see the hang up. Hell, the power9 are pretty much miracles without any drawback.
This card needs another look, guys. It's now the hottest card in the set, and there are still only 5 lists running it. I had this pegged as an obvious include when the spoiler came out, but I haven't been able to acquire one yet. Has anyone else been running this? I am going to snap replace Fireball with this guy when I can pick one up.
This card is actually insane. I replaced Earthquake with it, but I think I may just bump up to 4 X-spells and cut a non-X spell for Earthquake. I wonder if that's too many...
It isn't exactly the same, but I think Izzium Mortars is better due to flexibility (what miracle doesn't allow at all) and being one-sided.
Okay, it doesn't hit player.
Yet, it stay cubeworthy in large cube. But at 540 I would play the two earthquake and Mortars. If you dont play portal or if you have larger cube, why not.
We have been running bonfire and it's amazing! Mystical Tutor and Vampiric Tutor are nuts with it and Entreat obviously. We have seen control decks with those synergies alot lately. I might even add Terminus and/or Noxious Revival based on our results.
We, on the other hand, have actually enjoyed the miracle cards way more than we originally thought. While I cannot stand the mechanic in constructed, in Cube it is certainly fun enough and the blowouts are much better handled than say, playing for top 8 at the WMC.
Entreat and Bonfire have been very good so far, and Terminus is still being tried to obtain data. They also increase the value of SDT, Brainstorm effects, top of deck tutors, Noxious Revival...which I like as well.
Being either awesome or lackluster was a big swing.
That's actually why I run them. Then again, I always try to promote some risk vs reward in my Cubes. I wouldn't run too many Miracle cards - 1-3 depending on Cube size is probably enough - but it is an interesting mechanic that is worth playing, and Bonfire is probably at the top of the list when it comes to cubable Miracle cards.
Ended up cutting from my 360 cube because most people who splash red would rather a cheaper burn spell, and mono-red doesn't really want X-damage effects that are not reliable.
It's a good card, but it's not good enough in a small cube.

But Bonfire's a bomb. If you have any fringe X spells left at all (particularly any of the XRR ones) I'd 86 them for this spell.

On spoiled card wishlisting and 'should-have-had'-isms:
I don't think so. But maybe.
Bonfire's really quite good. I'm probably going to test out this card and Entreat.

It's normal cost is fairly costed (one sided pyroclasm for 5 mana is...alright), but the miracle cost is insane. Kill your whole team for 5 mana?

Draft it here!
For those of you who haven't cubed it, you have to test it out.
The only reason not to play this at anything but the smallest cubes is if you dont run miracles. Ive won multiple games on the back of this card.
