Sorry, when I say modern Cube I mean current Cube with the cards we have now and the design sensibilities we've acquired in the past 18 months. NOT a Cube restricted to the Modern format (Though I suppose answering the question in context of the Modern format as well is interesting and has use for those with Modern Cubes).
^I think he meant "modern" as synonymous with "contemporary," as in "the cubes of today," not necessarily the modern format. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Oh, I thought he was talking about playing a spell that is countering a spell with counters on it as it comes into play, but I see you guys were just discussing whether he was flashing a creature with flash in order to flash a flashback or just flashing a creature with flash but not needing flash in order to flashback a spell without flash.
On top of the interactions mentioned, he's not bad with Skullclamp and sometimes having an attacker/blocker that just keeps coming back can buy you enough time to draw something better. Mainly though, I keep him around for Liliana 2.0, Survival, Nightmare, masticores, and looters.
Ya, a lot of people have cut them in recent history, but I won't be cutting either of the 4cc ones any time in the near future. They're a crowd favorite around here.
I'll probably play 1 more masticore at 450. At 360, though, molten tail is the only one worth running. And well, it's close to staple, if not a staple.
Squee's just interesting, and I'm always finding new ways to use him. Recent way was (this is a little bit ridiculous) but Purphoros, God of the Forge + Skullclamp + Squee. Yeah... that happened.
Squee is very synergistic with a lot of combo-ish strategies, so if you have the balls to run it in your Cube over 'safer' cards, that makes your Cube awesome because not a lot of other people do that and are afraid to have synergy in their Cubes to make synergistic combos.

EDIT: I like him in 720 for sure. Way too many cards that he plays ridiculously well with. Anyone interested in cubing should always do a little thought exercise by going through the top cards in cube and seeing how many actually go well with him.
I'm a fan of Squee. I'm usually the only guy that drafts him though, so he ends up on the bench a lot. But he is certainly a nice combo piece for a lot of other cards in cube. So I don't think he will ever get cut from my cube.

It seems like I'm always finding something else for Squee to do. He has a lot of small interactions in addition to the main reasons people include him.

Agreed. No one I draft with understands his power. They are too hung up on the fact that he's "useless" if you don't have another piece to combo him with.
But even then, sometimes you just need a dude who can die every turn blocking something. Or you just need a warm body to pick up a sword. He's not the most cost effective solution, but IMO it's all about the card advantage he generates and the flexibility he offers.
It goes back to a previous thread (Baneslayer vs Karmic guide). For me, I really like cards that take a little bit of effort to make really good. Squee is one of those cards. Anybody can play an under costed beat stick and get value, but you have to put thought into abusing cards like Squee and there's a lot of reward in doing that. So I push those types of cards heavily in my cube for that reason.
I'm a big fan of Squee and am happy so many people like him. I sympathize with those who are skeptical of him, but think they just need to bet on the goblin to see him pull through!
On a pseudo-related note: What are people's opinions of Pyrewild Shaman and Chandra's Phoenix? Neither of them recur nearly as freely as Squee does, but I feel like they both have cases where they can effectively be Squee.
We cut both of them. I wanted them to be good, but ultimately they weren't. Phoenix was too crappy of a damage to mana ratio, even though it was free card advantage sometimes, it was too rare that it mattered. Far more often it was a 2/2 haste for 3, which just wasn't good enough for my aggresive red decks. Shaman just cost too much mana to bring back.

My experience was different. I consider Chandra's Phoenix to fill a crucial niche as an aggressive 3 CMC beater in red. 2/2 flying haste is OK as a baseline. There aren't many red cards that do that for that cost, and a recurrable one is a great asset in our red aggro decks. Until we get a better one, it's safe. FWIW, I don't run Pyrewild or Squee.
Oh! In that case, absolutely.

REDUCED MASTICORES???
I'd play 2 more Masticores if they had them. They are seriously my favorite of all the creatures ever printed.
