Thanks for the in-depth review. I'm a little surprised by the scryland being good in cube, but I'll take your word for it. I wish there was a more pushed Saga, since they look sweet.

When I introduced the concept of considering cards like Kird Ape as Gruul
Really? It was all you?
I was talking to someone recently about why I don't really post on MTGS anymore, despite being a regular years ago when this forum was at its "peak/heyday" and seeing posts like this (especially from someone who's been around since I was a regular) and combative posts like this are part of the reason why (that and threads by non-current regulars seeming to get little in the way of eyeballs/traction, even if they've been regulars before or have created cube content before.) That said, I may end up posting more (and thanks, Mike for liking the article. :)) to see if it helps with generating discussion and helping to alleviate some of the issues with low discussion that I've been seeing.
With regards to your point, yes. Looking at the thread, you'll see that it was seen as an out-of-the-norm things and, yes, that is something that I created that has become mainstream.
But seriously, I agree and it's something we can all overall do a better job of on here i.e. making comments that the poster *knows* is inciteful, instead of just asking for proof in a non-rude manner.
Instead of 'Really? It was all you?', let's aim for 'that's cool! can I see where?' Usman deserves better than being called out on something he has no reason to lie about, you know? It's a big slap in the face against someone who is a pillar of our community.

It will, and I hope you do. Your unique and insightful commentary was an important pillar of this community, and your absence is noticeable.

Even if I was Rando Calrissian, I think it'd still be bad form to post stuff like what he did - I've definitely gotten *much* worse over the years of writing, esp for SCG, but that kind of stuff:
1) Isn't really useful.
2) Is that seriously all that you got out of it, was that one point?
I think as a community, that kind of stuff isn't useful.
Curious, you wrote in the tone as if you had some experience with the lower tier cubeable cards in the set.
Do you do a huge testing batch with proxies before the set comes out and cull from there?
With regards to your point, yes. Looking at the thread, you'll see that it was seen as an out-of-the-norm things and, yes, that is something that I created that has become mainstream.
Wow, man. I just read through the first five or so pages of your cube thread linked here and it made me so nostalgic for those early days in the cube forum. Discussion was sometimes heated but always interesting. Multiple people chiming in to provide comments, suggestions, and advice on cube updates or interesting ideas. Super cool to read through that.

Man, I miss the wild-west days of cube when we had no idea what we were doing. I played Molten Hydra in my first cube. That card is terrible even by 2007 standards.

A few weeks ago, I was on the Color Commontary podcast (it's a pauper podcast) to talk about pauper cube, which inevitably became me talking about my cube history; I talked about how from 2007-2013 (?) or so, this forum was where a lot of cube theory started and how it started out roughly, as the "you make the cube" was a bloated mess with things like the green Decree, and a lot of junk.
I'm hoping we can get some more dynamic discussion going, since it can get stilted or become like "ships passing in the night." Maybe the first step to recovery is acknowledgement.
btw, pringles, I still have the strip mine that you altered, but it's been in retirement since it got water spilled on it. I ended up getting it replaced for my regular cube, but I'm putting it in my peasant cube which should be premiering IRL this week!

Pretty much, yeah. I updated my list on Cubetutor with Dominaria things and it's where I'm mostly "settled" and I'm happy with it. But I usually try a *lot* of things out, since I've found that over the years, mistakes were more made in the dismissing a card rather than being overly enthusiastic about it.
I've had your appearance on CC queued up since it released, but haven't gotten to it yet. It's definitely one I look forward to listening to.
How much Dominaria testing have you gotten in so far? Specifically, I'd be curious about the following.
Benalish Marshal - Is WWW not too intensive?
History of Benalia - This was great against me at the prere (I was obviously not lucky enough to crack one, lol), but Knights are definitely more abundant in that format.
Zahid, Djinn of the Lamp - This guy was nuts at the prere and seems like he could translate well as finisher in blue that usually costs 3U. I'd worry that a generic 5/6 flyer, even at four mana, is just not powerful enough for this format.
Josu Vess, Lich Knight - He's obviously incredible if you get to cast him for full value, but how often is that? Is the non-kicked option good enough?
Saproling Migration - Is this supporting something specific? It was fine for me at the prere, but nothing to write home about without being able to follow it up with some sort of mass pump effect.

I talked about some of the points in the article but tl;dr:
Oddly benalish marshal usually was great even if he came out on something like turn 5-6, since it puts a lot of power out. Usually wasn't too hard to get out, even in non mono decks.
Josu Vess' kicker is prolly a pipe dream and never got kicked, but I got 8 headless horseman in case I do! Thing just hits like a truck, same with Zahid, where the general consensus was that even though not super flashy, a big fat moti hits like a tank.
Knight saga was overall great. Lots of power but doesnt need knights. Sap migration is mostly early game stuff, and I'm guessing its shelf life won't be super long.
I've been trying the stuff out since (at least for the stuff that got spoiled) it was known, and definitely wanted to get a lot of reps in with weird stuff like Karn, etc.
Generally I think triple (and double) color casting costs can be overstated. I've ran Pox for a long time and it continues to be popular in my group without requiring you to be in a mono black. What are your thoughts on Marshal vs something like Spear of Heliod as a global pump option? Obviously you're not running Spear, but I'd be interested on your thoughts comparing the two.
Headless Horseman for the Josu Vess tokens is pretty sweet. The official token art is metal, though. Dude looks like he'd open for Amon Amarth.
My issue with heliods spear was that it was pretty bleh when topdecked or with an anemic board state, because it felt like a "kick me while I'm down" type of thing. Although I guess that happens with equipment or vehicles, eh?
It's definitely easier to cast than the knight. Maybe it's tye body? It seems like it's been performing better than the anthems did, though it's been a while since running those.
I haven't seen the knights but should prolly look. I got some Final Fantasy tcg knights from FFT but the official ones look amazing. They've really been knocking it out of the park with tokens lately.
Maybe I'll give the Marshal a shot over Spear for a bit. My biggest worry would be ease of removal in cube. Killing a 3/3 isn't exactly a daunting task.
I'm glad to see you posting more, dude. Your posts today have made me add two more cards to my Dominaria inclusions list!

Compared to spear I definitely like Benalish Marshall better. Spear off the top is much better on an empty board and the 2 are very similar on a crowded battlefield.

Weirdly I haven't seen the midcombat blowout happen, which is odd because yeah, it's not exactly hard to kill a 3/3, ya know?
