I've been wanting to do some more in-depth writing about my peasant cube and its many (fringe) archetype and build-arounds.
Instead of doing it all at once in an opening post on here, I figured I might as well take the time to build it and write it blog-style in chunks so I can write whatever, whenever I feel like it, without having to worry about formatting or the task feeling too daunting.
Yep, that was a good read and I'd definitely be interested in more along similar lines (fringe archetypes and build-arounds etc.). Thanks.
Good to hear these were interesting. I liked doing these spotlight blogs the best so far. Any archetypes or build-arounds you'd like me to write about?
Just wanted to say thanks and that I've bookmarked your blog, I always like to read more about Peasant cubing.
I think I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts about specific archetype cards and how they work out for you during actual gameplay. For example how does +1/+1 in green work out for you? I feel like there are really no good payoff cards other than Cytoplast Root-Kin, and there aren't even a lot of good cards to put counters on creatures (or creatures that start with counters).
Which are the best +1/+1 cards in your opinion? I run Abzan Falconer and Elite Scaleguard in white so far, how does Abzan Battle Priest compare?
I don't play as much cube as I would like to, so niche archetype cards don't get drafted that often. Always interested in hearing an in-depth analysis from someone who drafts more often. And your cube seems to rely more on specific archetypes than most, despite running highest power level cards.
Your observation on green and +1/+1 counters is a very good one. I actually just posted an article doing some numbers research on a couple build-arounds and green is severely lacking in the +1/+1 counter department, something which I'm planning to fix. It does have Bramblewood Paragon and the new Armorcraft Judgeas good pay-offs, but the best reason to run green with +1/+1 counters is definitely Curse of Predation.
For white, you run the best 2 available. Both are great finishers for the +1/+1 counter archetype, and probably are the best +1/+1 pay-offs available to us. The best pay-off after that, funny enough, might just be Volt Charge. I've killed people out of nowhere with Volt Charge providing a surprise 5-6 damage when unblocked, or make a good combat step surprisingly terrible. Battle Priest is a somewhat new addition, but so far it's been good enough. The fact that it can provide a huge life swing on the turn you play it is nice. I used to run the +1/+1 angel (blanking on the name), but I found that one too narrow. Battle Priest also has the upside of just being a decent card in decks that only play a couple sturdy green +1/+1 counter guys. Phantom Centaur with lifelink tends to put away games against aggro.
Anyway, I'll definitely do an article on +1/+1 counter archetypes in the near future. (Maybe I can do a post about 'fixing' green +1/+1 counters, if people are interesting in reading about the process?)
I'd also be interested in hearing about your experiences with the +1/+1 counters archetype. The "pillfort" deck (Ghostly Prison, Sphere of Safety, Story Circle etc.) and/or the self-mill (Spider Spawning etc.) decks could be good ones to talk about too.
Added them to my list
Weirdly, I'm still contemplating if I'm going to do 3 different posts on the +1/+1 counter archetype (GW, WR and RG) to make it shorter and more readable. Putting them all in 1 big article is easier if people just want to read about the whole archetype in general, but I'm afraid to scare people off if I'm going to write that many words at once ;).
Total coincidence, actually. I wanted to talk about a green/red card because of Christmas, and Fires jumped out at me. It was an even bigger coincidence that I happened to check in on the Evaluate Everything discussion right after I posted my blurb about Fires.
The 2017, Urza block and stats and numbers articles were ones that I started a while ago and needed finishing. Hence the article dump. I have another couple of half-finished ones that I hope to finish this and next week.
As always, I'd love to hear what you think. Suggestions about blocks to treasure hunt or archetypes to spotlight are also welcome.
Oh, does anyone know of an elegant way to get hover links for the mentioned cards, I'd like to hear all about it. Linking all the cards separately is a hell of a time consuming job, and I've had them disappear on me multiple times now after either connection problems or minor glitches is in the website. Thanks!

I enjoyed it as well, might do more when time allows. With the current pace of new sets coming out (and life in general), I'm not sure when though.
If there's something you'd like to see hunted for treasure (a set/block/subset of cards/etc), let me know and I'll try to make it my next project.
