Trivia
* Just missed: Sword of Feast and Famine and Tangle Wire (both 2.3), Time Vault (1.7), Coalition Relic (1.6).
* Sol Ring remains the winner, again with a near-perfect result (no vote worst than 3rd place). Without any "unpowered" votes this time, Black Lotus breaks last year's tie with the Mox cycle to get Jitte's #2 position. The Mox cycle stays at #3, so Umezawa's Jitte goes #4.
* Rise...: With a whole set of impactful new cards entering the ranking, even with many no-votes, it's no surprise three conspiracies got positions on the ranking: #9 Backup Plan, #14 Double Stroke and #16 Power Play. One other new card also enters the ranking, #17 Ugin, the Spirit Dragon, while Smokestack gets a #20 after being left out last time - still very good when five cards are leaving the ranking (see next).
* ...and Fall: Last year's five lowest places in the Top 20 all leaving the ranking this time: Sword of Feast and Famine, Tangle Wire, Sword of War and Peace, Winter Orb and Coalition Relic, former #16-#20 in that order. And now with another colorless planeswalker to dispute votes with, Karn Liberated falls 5 positions - from #14 to #19. Other card that falls on the ranking is Sword of Body and Mind, losing 4 positions (from #11 to #15).
* 52 different cards received votes (tied with blue for the most varied).
Again, nothing too surprising here. There was a disparity in the voting with both conspiracies and fast artifact mana, so some of those cards took a hit it looks like.
Again, nothing too surprising here. There was a disparity in the voting with both conspiracies and fast artifact mana, so some of those cards took a hit it looks like.
Well, compared to last year the fast mana artifacts actually got slightly better. Black Lotus and Grim Monolith rose 1 position each, while Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, the Mox Jewelry and Mana Vault stayed on the exact same places, and Mox Diamond fell 1 position. The one that actually suffered was Coalition Relic.
Of course, you could argue they should be even higher, but it wasn't because of the conspiracies as they tended to be ranked below the mana rocks anyway.
Results look good. I would probably rank Karn over Ugin and would include Unexpected Potential over Power Play but those are my only thoughts on how it could be different.
Battlesphere is an amazing card that I pick highly as well, but when you're voting against power that fits into every deck, equipment that fits into most decks, and ramp that a lot of decks want, it's hard to vote highly on Battlesphere or in some cases even find room.
Time Vault is so underratred IMO, but I understand that not everyone is running it.
But, OMFG, this card is so broken.
Yeah a lot of people forget it exist because they don't run it. I forgot it because we kind of banned it in our cube for being too extreme a combo. I think that next year I will rate it higher as their are more and more ways to untap it without having to include crappy cards solely for this combo.
Why don't people rate Battlesphere higher? To me it is a bit narrow. It is great in an artifact based deck, especially if you have Tinker. But if you have a normal ramp or cheat (reanimator, Eureka, Sneak Attack,..) deck, it is not clearly better then its coloured competition. So why pick it high? In most decks any finisher in the right colours (or colourless) will do.
Time Vault has been discussed to death. When the opportunity cost to include it gets better (once there's a critical mass of untapping effects that don't suck) it'll be ranked higher by more people. But until then, it'll remain off most people's lists.
There was a mistake on the ranking. Somehow I failed to include the last two votes on the final result as originally posted, and I only noticed the problem when I compared it to the google spreadsheet.
The OP is now corrected. This caused four cards to move places: Sword of Fire and Ice switches places with Mana Crypt at 6th/7th; and Sword of Light and Shadow switches with Karn Liberated at 18th/19th.
2 Black Lotus - 18.9
3 ABU Mox - 17.3
4 Umezawa's Jitte - 16.8
5 Skullclamp - 13.6
6 Sword of Fire and Ice - 12.8
7 Mana Crypt - 12.6
8 Mana Vault - 10.1
9 Backup Plan - 9.8
10 Wurmcoil Engine - 9.0
11 Grim Monolith - 8.0
11 Mox Diamond - 8.0
13 Batterskull - 7.8
14 Double Stroke - 5.4
15 Sword of Body and Mind - 4.9
16 Power Play - 4.1

18 Sword of Light and Shadow - 3.3
19 Karn Liberated - 3.1
20 Smokestack - 2.6
