I definitely will...I talked to my mom today and got the ball rolling a little. I'm working on a balsa wood Sopwith Camel airplane model with my dad for right now though, so I probably have to finish that first before I tackle a new project.
(Despite the way it sounds from this post, I don't live in my parents' basement anymore, I live in a totally different state. :P)
Any thoughts about what material to use for the boosters? Cotton is your basic fabric, and definitely cheapest. Satin would probably feel really incredible (and be gentle on the sleeves I would think) but I don't know about how easy it is to work with. Ought to be doable for a pretty simple rectangle project like this I would hope. Canvas would be the most durable for sure, but would also be bulkiest. Once I have a template down I might order a little bit of each and see what looks/feels best.
Does anyone have experience with the KMC Hypermat purple sleeves? I want a slightly offbeat color of sleeves for my cube, but after being disappointed that the Ultra Pro pro matte orange sleeves aren't actually opaque, I want to make sure the next ones I order will be.

Not sure what would be best but the two things I would want: The fabric can't be clear/see-through and that the cards go in easily without the corners getting stuck. I've split several sleeves trying to put my sleeved Love Letter game back in the pouch as the corners always get stuck in the fabric. (only time I've ever split a kmc hyper-matte)
Yeah, those are both good points. I don't think see-through should be an issue. I ordered two fabrics today to test, both black - a yard of satin and a yard of canvas. I'm hoping that both should be opaque, but I'll know for sure once I have them in hand.
As far as the sleeves catching on them, that'll just come down to testing. I'll probably have to make bags of a few different sizes and see what the best balance of size vs. ease of insertion is. I'm guessing they'll have to be slightly larger than team bags, especially if the canvas is a little more rugged.
Again though, I'm a noob, so this'll involve some trial and error. I'm hoping to have something to share out by August.
There is a tutorial on Youtube to make water proof bags for.... something....
They basically cut up a shower curtain (I think) and fabric and stitched them together. Obviously shower curtain might not be thin enough but there's gotta be something on that flavor at the fabric store. Disposable rain slickers? Those super thin aluminium blankets?
Wow, that's also a neat idea. I'm going to try it just with fabric first and see how it feels. Simplicity is going to be important for the first test. The more confident I get with the sewing machine the more willing I'll be to try stuff like liners. Any chance you could post or PM me that youtube tutorial?

So I have both the Purples from Dragonshield and the KMC Purple Hyper Matte. I prefer the darker tone of the Dragonshield purples. The KMCs are pretty much violet unless they came out with a new color. I did buy these sleeves over 15 years ago.
If you're looking for quality, KMC. I've had a lot of dragonshield sleeves split on me.
Anyone know where to buy bulk sleeves? All I know are LGS's and Amazon. Thanks!
EDIT: I looked through some of this post but some of the links are dead.

Potomac Dist is okay for buying bulk sleeves but you need a $150 order to make shipping free. I personally just shop on amazon for sleeves now. It's more or less wholesale price and you can get amazon prime on a lot of them. I just bought 1K KMC Perfect fits for around $25. Hard to beat that.

There is also a hidden drawer behind the Zombie Horde cards and under the keys holding a bunch of d20 spindown life counters.
Feel free to draft and make comments. The cube has original Innistrad, Shadows Over Innistrad, some Dark Ascension, very few Avacyn Restored, a few Origins that are Innistrad related, and then a few other cards that fit the theme to round out some archetypes, mostly from Ravnica. I also added a bunch of draft matters cards and on-theme cards from Conspiracy. I find them to be super fun to add to a draft environment, especially for the casual multiplayer drafts that my family likes to play. I plan to add some Eldritch Moon cards when I get them. It is not exactly a draft sim, but I do hold to a rarity ratio of 3-4/1-3/1/0-1 for commons/uncommons/rares/mythics, making the draft feel like a normal booster draft. I did cull a lot of cards I don't really like from each set included, mostly to enhance the presence specific tribes and archetypes in the remaining cards. The cube is huge, and I need to start trimming, but I want to play with it for a bit to see what I would like to trim. I would like it to include about 125 cards of each color and probably ~3 cards per guild, along with mana fixing lands, conspiracy draft matters cards, and equipment that is on-theme. I don't really see Innistrad theme being powerful artifacts, so this can be pretty limited. The plan is to tune it, let my kids learn to draft it well, then head to my local card shop around Halloween snd try to recruit a draft with some unsuspecting locals.
Thanks all for taking a look. It has been on and off about 3 months collecting cards, collecting materials for props, and then several failed efforts to create the recesses to hold the props. I am super glad it worked out pretty much how I envisioned it, because my wife suffered through a lot of half crazed ideas that I had in creating it, including expanding insulating foam fiascos and trips to our local New England cemeteries to find the oldest grave dirt possible. I swear I thought she was going to lose it when I loaded up the car with her and the kids to tour cemeteries. After seeing it finished, she had no complaints, and gave me some begrudging complements on how it looks. My kids think it is amazing, and are super proud of our family cube. Mission accomplished.
I'm looking for a card box myself and I have problems to find one. My cube is ca 550 cards and I only can find boxes way bigger or too small. Any suggestions? Or do I have to make one myself?

I highly suggest a cube box by Aaron Cain because you can customize it to your liking. I just got mine yesterday and I finally replaced the BCW white cardboard boxes I've been using. The only problem with his service is that there is a long waiting period. I believe he waits until he accumulates enough orders for one type of box before starting construction. That said, I placed an order early April and only got it yesterday.
Also does anyone know how KMC Hyper Mattes fare for long-term usage? I was thinking of replacing my Dragon Shields since they get scuffed, cloudy, and sticky just after a few drafts. Do the Hyper Mattes have the same issue?
I used the same set of 225 kmc hypermattes sleeves for 2 years on my standard decks (usually have 3 decks sleeved at a time). Only issue with them is the top got wavy (possibly due to being left in my car when its 100+ degrees out, not sure). But they never got grimy or sticky and I never split a single one.
Have the same on my cube which i've been playing for 6 months and they're still like new. My only issue is some dust/dirt seems to accumulate inside at the top of the sleeve. But it wipes right off.

I will look him up, but I guess the fact it is handcrafted will make it expensive.
On KMC Hypermats: I don't know, I get told from all people, they are the best and never split, but I got a pack for my modern deck last octobre and I split 5-10 already. And I only take out the deck 1-2 times a month.
To me the KMC Hyper Mattes have the best look and feel of any sleeve I've ever had.
That said, at our most recent cube draft we did split about five of them. I think a lot of that can be avoided by being a little bit more careful with the way you mash, but it did seem to happen with greater frequency than with other sleeves.

A few weeks late, sorry, but I've got the purple Hypermattes on my kids peasant cube.
Totally opaque, and currently happily standing up to a 7yo's rough handling.
I've had it together for about six months now, and haven't had to replace a single sleeve yet.
Sorry to bring this up (probably again), but a friend could bring back a Quiver from the states if I wanted him to and I wondered if people use it for a 540 cube + 150 basics (and preferably some dice etc) and are happy with it? I am only currently at 480 cards but am considering to expand it sooner rather than later.
Just wanted to pop in and say as a first time buyer of sleeves despite having collecting magic for quite a long time I went for KMC Hyper Mat Black Sleeves after much consideration and I am very pleased with them
Started a new playgroup and they don't have any cards so needed a way to protect mine for a 5 player cube. I read through this thread and other sources, so if your not sure like I was I just want to add my voice in support of them.
For storage of the cube I got a a4 sized PU leather office storage box. Will get a photo for later.
