Trying to figure out cards to proxy for my cube based on price and this came up in my google search, so I thought I'd resurrect it ~5 years later. Whats your 5 most expensive cube cards?
I run some gold-bordered cards that I won't count. Nor the fetchlands. I'm unpowered.
Liliana of the Veil
Jace, the Mind Sculptor
Crucible of Worlds
Ravages of War
Karn Liberated
Nothing ultraflashy there. Good luck with the project.

I find it amusing to see people talking about beta dual lands and such. Who wants to carry around a cube worth half a million dollars? I have a price cap around 15$ (USD) in my cube, and it's still putting a lot of eggs in one basket. I try to pull cards worth more than 20$ out, as I don't like cubing with that much value. It should be okay if someone accidentally damages a card, even if that card is a good one. Sometimes cards shoot up without my knowlege, or I keep overvaluable cards in because I can't bare to cut them. The most valuable ones I can think of are
All of those are cards that are over the price threshold, but that I really don't want to cut. Filter lands could go, but I'm low on off-color duals. I hate when cards get super expensive, even when I own the cards. It's not like I was planning to sell them.

My perspective is that I have these cards so I can play with them, and yes, they're going to get a little wear. I'm okay with that. It actually helps me acquire older cards because I don't care about condition. I actually like beat up old cards. My Strip Mine looks like it's blown up about 15,000 Islands and a few hundred Maze of Iths over the course of its 23 year life. My Lightning Bolt has done untold damage to the Birds of Paradises of the world. That's cool. And if someone nicks a corner accidentally? Well, whatever. It's just stuff. I'm no collector.
For me, owning these cards is either for Cube or EDH. And EDH isn't nearly as fun as cube, and besides, my group's power level with EDH decks is such that having more than $400 or so into an EDH deck is pointless.
If I had a set of Beta duals worth, what, $15k, I'd sell them. I'd buy 2 full sets of Collector's Edition duals for $1200 together, put $800 aside for EDH decks and the next year or two of cube updates, and pocket $13k. That way I'd have duals, wouldn't worry about them, and would feel richer.

I like this attitude. I also don't want to seem too snarky about people who have put their heart and souls into acquiring the most pimped out cubes around. I certainly can't buy miscut beta counterspells, but people who do so that have every right to be proud of them.
Foil Future Sight Tarmogoyf $900
{All the CE P9} -- Black Lotus (CE) $475
Moat (English) $640
Foil Grim Monolith Only have MP on TCGplayer for $500...graded 9.5 on eBay $1000, so I'm going with $750 for my NM/not graded
Library of Alexandria $700
Totals to around $3500 (only counting Black Lotus from the P9)
I had no idea that ARN Serendib Efreet was so expensive these days. I still have one kicking around since he got cut from my cube.
That's a good looking alter.
Yeah, I got my Serendib on ebay a couple weeks back for ~$120ish, which is crazy compared to what they were a year ago.
Funny story about my City of Brass actually; I won an auction for some foreign Storm stuff on ebay, the seller recognized my name from The Source and threw in 2 Arabian City of Brasses (I think they were 35-40 each at the time) along with a message that he was just glad someone in the community would be using the stuff he was selling off.

Pretty similarly to the previous poster, I have a more powered than average CU/be albeit with less bling. All cards are in English, though, which really matters for some of them.

Looks like it blew up in May of 2016. Held at $250 for a long time, crept up to $350 in 2015, and then exploded. Has been falling slowly for a little while. http://www.mtgstocks.com/prints/11943
At $250, I could possibly see myself getting one someday. At $500, there's no way. Oh well.

My five most expensive cards (according to cubetutor):
Underground Sea (Revised)
Volcanic Island (Revised)
Tropical Island (Revised)
Imperial Recruiter (Judge Foil)
Tundra (Revised)
Not counting dual lands:
Imperial Recruiter (Judge Foil)
Rishadan Port (Mercadian Masques)
Tarmogoyf (Modern Masters 3)
Liliana of the Veil (Innistrad)
Force of Will (Eternal Masters)
I've been thinking about making the dual lands the only proxies in my cube. Not only is it ridiculous to carry around ten cards that are worth over 1,500 € together (that is over a quarter of the total value of my cube!), but they are also the only white-bordered cards in my cube. I am normally against proxies, but I think I may make an exception for these ten cards.
I was surprised how much Port and Liliana cost now. Ugh, this reminds me of how I traded away my second Liliana for like 30 € years ago...
