MidnightJazz seems to have disappeared... I'd like to talk to him and get his advice on making a Custom Cube, but I'm not sure if I want to straight-up use his designs without asking him first. I feel it's a bit different than the Print This thread since his whole project is finished.
that seems like way too many for a 360 card cube, i don't run that many 6cc guys in any color in my 540 card cube. i would go with maybe two 6 drops, one 7 drop, one 8 drop?
This is a good point. that makes more sense.
All this talk of Black and Green haste makes me want to see a Black haste creature in here! I'll try to think something up.

I agree. Would you like to PM him or have you already? His cube's powerlevel is not consistent which is why I enjoy ours, but he does have really cool unique ideas that I would love to use.
Someone suggested this a long time ago, which I think is actually a big enough drawback:
Bear Maker -G Sorcery
Put a 2/2 green Bear onto the battlefield.
I dislike the 2/1 bear as it is too powerful for green and we both agreed that there are too many 2/1s.
Tombwright5BBB
Creature - Demon {M}
Flying, Trample
At the beginning of your upkeep, for each player, choose a creature card in that player's graveyard. Return that creature to the battlefield under your control.
6/6
Cliffside Village Land
Cliffside Village enters the battlefield tapped. T: Add W to your mana pool. 1W: Cliffside Village becomes a 3/3 white Giant creature with vigilance until end of turn. It's still a land.
Unless this was part of a cycle I'd rather have:
Chimeric Wastes Land
~ enters the battlefield tapped. T: Add 1 to your mana pool
Tap all other lands you control: ~ becomes a 3/3 artifact creature until end of turn.
- Cursed Lich [without Wither]
- Doom Blade [it just fits as a partner to Corrode]
- Mind Rot+ [1B]
- (Reanimation 2)
- (Reanimation Enchantment)
- (Sac Sweeper)
- (Bendable Lightning)
- (Bear Maker)
- (Green Akroma) [flash version, at least for now]
- (Green Kami)
- (Silvos+)
- Rune Rod
- (Memory Lapse + Repel)
- (Shazaam) [note that now UB has 4 cards including the mana stone]
- Flourishing Thoughts
- Seasons Passed
- Quick Coax
- (Lifelink Rhino)
- Chimeric Wastes
I'll get to adding the cards to the OP.
I didn't add Rhox Purifier and Blue Cycler because I'm not sure about particular block mechanics yet. I didn't add Infernic Wumpus (though I do like that idea a lot too) because Red already has Dark Ritual and we need to decide whether the number of color-shifts should be limited or not. I didn't add Treefingers yet as I'm unsure of the template (I personally like the Utopia Vowish one I suggested). I didn't add Broken Black Draw because it might be broken! (I think it would be okay in this Cube though) I didn't add Reanimation 4b yet as we need to decide whether we like the "two swamps" alternate cost (to mimic Fireblast) or the current one.

I haven't PMd him yet, but I could. I'm in the same boat as you- I like his designs and it looks like a blast to play but the philosophy is a lot different from this Cube.
Someone suggested this a long time ago, which I think is actually a big enough drawback:
Bear Maker - G
Sorcery
Put a 2/2 green Bear onto the battlefield.
I dislike the 2/1 bear as it is too powerful for green and we both agreed that there are too many 2/1s.
I believe that was Shalazar, but I may be wrong. As noted above, I've added this card to the Cube. But I don't want to take the 2/1 out of Green- at least not yet. I don't think it's too powerful for Green at all, especially for Cube (and especially for this Cube!) I bet a 2/1 for G will actually see print one day as long as it's not an Elf or something. We do have too many 2/1s, but that's mostly a concern for Black at the moment. So we'll see.
Also, I'm not so sure about "Dessicate" for Exile+Draw. It sounds even more Black than Depart! A friend suggested "Solace in Solitude" for Exile+Heal, but that could fit either of the two. I really like that name, and we should use that or some variation of it.
We also need some fatty artifacts to justify the artifact reanimation spell.
Agreed.
In the next update I'll probably drop a few cards, including the (Big RW Creature).
I personally like wtwlf's way of sorting multicolor and multicolor lands (though he says he is not the first). I believe we should implement this style as well. That we can go into later but this would help the noncycle multicolor lands. We can discuss this later in depth.
(Silvos+) should be replaced since the two current fatties (Akroma and shroud/trample) are way simular.
Either Treefingers is great, I enjoy both cards. I do prefer the original which actually turns the creature into a land because it can also be Stone Rain'd or whatever.
I enjoy (Mind Rot+) a lot.
Red Ritual is more important than Infernic Wumpus, I agree.
(Reanimation 4b) could use either, I do dislike sacing two swamps because unlike Fireblast, 4b does not win games as soon as it is casted. Both versions are nice though.
(Broken Black Draw) is broken, cannot find a way to make it still pretty good and not broken.
Rune Rod is just too cool. It is an answer to Death Knight and all the 2/1s too, which is nice.
Oozey Fungus -G Creature - Fungus Ooze
Mana doesn't empty from your mana pool as steps and phases end on your turn.

Spiteful Edict -BR Instant
All players sacrifice your choice of an artifact, creature, or land.
We previously discussed this one:
(New Icy) -5 Artifact
Tap an untapped artifact you control: Tap target creature.
Stepping Stones Land
~ enters the battlefield tapped. T: Add 1 to your mana pool. 1, T, sacrifice ~: Draw a card.
Red Port Land T: Add R to your mana pool, ~ deals 1 damage to you. ,T: Tap target nonbasic land.
I've been thinking about the colors in a new way today. At first the thought process seemed to me to be a bit too theoretical, but the more I have followed it, the more I feel like this would be a good way to help us fill slots and know what is the most/least needed.
I started by coming up with the ideal number of creatures each color should have. Here's what I came up with:
The idea of it being symmetrical is aesthetic, but it's not something we have to strictly follow or anything. Just a helpful guideline.
I guess Red and Black could possibly switch places- It's going to be hard to think up so much burn that doesn't obsolete other burn in the Cube! But for now I'll assume Black has a 24/24 split to use it for this exercise.
I think it would be cool to represent as many B mechanics as possible. But the question is... how many of each effect? So I just wrote down the first thing that popped into my head (This is just an example exercise; obviously this will be tweaked. This is probably too much spot removal, I'm probably forgetting something entirely, etc.)
6 spot removal
4 reanimator
4 discard
2 edict
2 mass removal
2 tutor
4 miscellaneous
From doing this, though, I can sort of... narrow down what "subsets" of these cards we need. Discard, for instance. We have Mind Rot+, but perhaps we also need a random discard spell. Maybe something like...
Mind Blast 2BB
Sorcery
Target player discards 3 cards at random.
OR
Cantrip to Tourach 2BB
Sorcery
Target player discards 2 cards at random.
Draw a card.
Or the BB "they discard a card at random; you draw a card."
And we also probably need a discard spell or two that fits the one-mana slot. A Duress/Thoughtseize type of card, or perhaps Thoughtseize itself.
And we can try to figure out how to "budget" space for spot removal. Is 6 (plus 2 Edicts) too much? If the number is 6, how does this look as an "outline"?
- 4 spells with "nonblack" (Including Doom Blade)
- Corrode, which uses "nongreen" for variety
- (Black Removal 2).
I dunno. Maybe these kind of exercises will be more helpful later on in the process than they are now, but I personally feel like this could help us out a lot. I'm not saying "we should think THIS way!" or anything, but I think it could supplement our thought process well.
I personally like wtwlf's way of sorting multicolor and multicolor lands (though he says he is not the first). I believe we should implement this style as well. That we can go into later but this would help the noncycle multicolor lands. We can discuss this later in depth.
This would indeed be interesting to discuss, possibly the next time we chat. I'm not sure if it's something that's -as- necessary when designing a Cube as it is when constructing a Cube, since we sort of control the... aggro-ness? of the colors somewhat, and I prefer the current organization method, but I'm not against it or anything.
This reminds me of something else, though. The manastones are kind of on par with the real-life Signets now (in some ways better, in some ways worse), but they're still multicolor in cost at the moment, and are counted as multicolor.
I feel like it might be a bit difficult to design 40 total non-manastone artifacts, especially since I like the idea of colored artifacts so much and there's a possibility that each individual color might have a couple of those.
I propose moving the manastones to the Artifacts section (not necessarily making them 2 or anything like that, just moving them), which would free up 1 hybrid slot per color.
I'd like to hear what you guys think about something like this: W: 48 cards U: 48 cards B: 48 cards R: 48 cards G: 48 cards X: 10 manastones, 30 other artifacts
:symuw:: 40 cards (2 gold cards and 2 hybrid cards for each guild) T: 40 cards
40 gold in a real-life 360 Cube is often too much because most hybrid cards are not Cubeable, but in a Custom Cube where we design the cards, having two hybrid cards (plus one hybrid manastone) per dual-color combo does not suffer from the problem of "clogging up the packs" at all. Hybrid cards do the opposite. For example, a card can be played in WU, WB, UR, BR, RG, RW, and GW. Plus, gold/hybrid cards are fun to design! And we can smooth things even further by making a or two in each color. I love that mechanic.

(Silvos+) should be replaced since the two current fatties (Akroma and shroud/trample) are way simular.
I actually like the 4GG 6/6 shroud/trampler better than our current one, but I agree that (Silvos) is pretty similar and could possibly be dropped.
Either Treefingers is great, I enjoy both cards. I do prefer the original which actually turns the creature into a land because it can also be Stone Rain'd or whatever.
While I am intrigued by the idea of Stone Raining a (former) creature, the "loses enchant creature and gains enchant land" wording and stuff is a little awkward, and it seems like too much of a corner case to be worth it.
I enjoy (Mind Rot+) a lot.
Red Ritual is more important than Infernic Wumpus, I agree.
Should we make the rule for the color shifts "exactly one to each color from each other color?" That's kind of what I've had in mind, but it has me worried because some are a lot harder than others. Black->Red has a few good choices, for instance, but something like... I dunno, Blue->Red or Green->White is a struggle.
(Reanimation 4b) could use either, I do dislike sacing two swamps because unlike Fireblast, 4b does not win games as soon as it is casted. Both versions are nice though.
That's a good point.
(Broken Black Draw) is broken, cannot find a way to make it still pretty good and not broken.
I do think Black should have at least one "draw cards and lose life" spell, and if we can't figure out some way to scale Broken Black Draw it might have to be Night's Whisper or something. Is Broken Black Draw good enough at XBB?
Rune Rod is just too cool. It is an answer to Death Knight and all the 2/1s too, which is nice.
Well, actually I changed Death Knight to a 2/2 when we last discussed him, but Rune Rod is still a good answer to the numerous other 2/1s.
A friend showed me this site the other day, which can generate all kinds of cool names. Even though this seems to be mostly for some kinda D&D thing, I had a lot of fun today with the numerous categories of name generation it can perform. Even the dumb names can inspire card ideas.
http://www.seventhsanctum.com/
Some new cards I created:
Oozey Fungus -G Creature - Fungus Ooze
Mana doesn't empty from your mana pool as steps and phases end on your turn.
~ gets +1/+0 for each mana in your mana pool.
1/1
I like the idea of an Omnath-ish card.
Quivin Plant Planter -2G Creature - Plant Shaman 1G, Sacrifice a creature: Search your library for a basic land card and put that card onto the battlefield tapped. Then shuffle your library.
1/3
This is interesting.
Vigorous Teaking -6GGG Creature - Treefolk Shaman
When ~ enters the battlefield untap up to nine lands.
Sacrifice six Saprolings: ~ has shroud until end of turn. 2G: Put two 1/1 green Saprolings onto the battlefield.
3/11
Another version of this you posted had some sort of infinite loop with itself if you had enough mana. Is this you tweaking it or did you leave something out?
It's a little bit clunky but I like this idea.
(Leech) -B Creature - Leech
Pay 3 life: ~ get +2/+2 until end of turn. Activate this ability only once each turn.
1/1
This is really cool and we should probably add it, but I'm not sure where on the power curve it falls. (Is it too good? Is it good enough?)
Limn -XGW
Sorcery
Destroy target permanent with converted mana cost X, you gain X life.
Great design. I love it.
Mire Ooze - G Creature - Ooze
Discard a card: regenerate CARDNAME, it gets +1/+1 until end of turn. Activate this ability only once each turn.
1/1
An interesting and creative one-drop. This is another card where I'm not sure of its power level.
Spiteful Edict -BR Instant
All players sacrifice your choice of an artifact, creature, or land.
I like the idea of this card but it feels a bit too... I dunno, precise? to feel BR to me. It feels WB or UB or something.
We previously discussed this one:
(New Icy) -5 Artifact
Tap an untapped artifact you control: Tap target creature.
I like how this gets stronger in "the artifact deck" that we're trying to make exist in this Cube.
Stepping Stones Land
~ enters the battlefield tapped. T: Add 1 to your mana pool. 1, T, sacrifice ~: Draw a card.
I like this a lot with the ETB tapped, though I liked the original too (I know it's probably too strong).
Red Port Land T: Add R to your mana pool, ~ deals 1 damage to you. ,T: Tap target nonbasic land.
This is cool. Would we file such a card under Red noncreature? I do that in my real Cube.
Oh man that was a lot of text! I like the creature/noncreature as a guideline, the curve as a guideline, the noncreature spells sorted as a guideline, but I do dislike Mind Blast, need random spells to be discarded around 3cmc.
I do think that the manastones should be in multicolor. I am unsure if all 10 mulicolor sections really want those manastones. I believe that all blue ones want them but not RG, RB, or BG.
I do think we should sort the big list of cards by first creature and noncreature, then by cmc. After that we tally up which mechanics are fulfilled in the noncreture sections: spot removal, reani, discard...
While reading this I realized there has been no targeted removal + sweeper, here is mine (may not be powerful enough):
Target or Sweep - 3BB Sorcery
Choose one: Destroy all creatures or target opponent sacrifices a creature, you gain life equal to it's toughness.
Infernic Wumpus should not be included since Red Ritual is, no need for a rule. We should not force color shifts, just include them when they feel right. I felt our set was becoming a lot about color shifts which I do not like.
I am unsure of the goodness of Broken Black Draw at XBB, also interferes with our sacing sweeper.
The Vigorous Teaking posted in this thread feels better, the other one had too many modes I believe. I am tweaking it.
Leech is defiantly good and probably too good. Let's leave it out as we already have a lot of life payment cards in black, Darkling feels similar but a better card.
Mire Ooze is for reanimators, we need cards like this.
Spiteful Edict in WB sounds awesome.
Red Port would be in red, though I am 100% sure it'll see play outside of it.
Reanimation 4B is a better card and it will be a good fit if the big fat finishers are fair. If stuff like Green Akroma gets to shine I'd rather have Reanimation 4 to enforce the all-in aspect of the card.
Some discard:
Level the Knowledge - 1B
Sorcery
Each player chooses a number of cards in hand equal to player who has the fewest, then discards the rest.
Let go the Beef - B
Sorcery
Target player discards a card. If a non-creature card is discarded this way you may search that player's library for a creature card and put it in that player's graveyard.
I like the black card balance. I am unsure how good the other one is but nevertheless it's a cool card. It also doubles as a really bad entomb which is neat.
A suggested card name:
Lure Basilisk = Risible Basilisk
i like the sweeper/edict a lot. i don't think it's broken but it's quite strong. should be great for any midrange or control deck and should almost always have a worthwhile mode. plus it's on-color black lifegain, which i like. nice design.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
Darkcaller: I like paying life as a cost. This card is cool. Plague Chasm: This is a great design, but it overlaps a bit with Black Removal 2 so we probably shouldn't use both. Target or Sweep: I love this. I almost feel like it should be 2BBB but I think we should include it either way. I think it should use the suggested "target player" wording from the other thread. Let go the Beef: Not sure what to think of this one, but the design is pretty unique. Level the Knowledge: Fantastic! This should go in for sure.
Also... what are some effects you can think of that don't see a lot of representation in normal Cubes (either due to being rarely printed or not of Cube strength), but that could be interesting in this Cube if we push the effect's power level? I don't mean block mechanics in this case; I mean concepts like "lifegain" and "damage prevention." I think I will cross-post this on the Print This Wizards thread as well.
Here are a few I can think of:
- color changing (no idea how THIS could be Cubeable)
- land-type changing
- (pure) lifegain
- fog effects
- "skill tester" cards akin to FoF and Gifts
- Red randomness
- color changing (no idea how THIS could be Cubeable)
Other than protection we might have pump:
Some Creature - WW Creature
Other white creatures get +1/+1.
Creatures you control are white.
2/2
- land-type changing
Avalanche Elemental - 4RR Creature - Elemental
Haste.
When ~ enters the battlefield put an avalanche counter on up to 4 target lands. For as long as that land has an avalanche counter on it, it is a mountain. (The land will still be a mountain after ~ has left the battlefield.)
4/5
- (pure) lifegain
Pure lifegain needs to be massive or tackled on some reusable mechanic.
Squee's Medikit - W Instant
Gain 1 life or prevent 1 damage that would be dealt to target creature or player this turn.
At the beginning of your upkeep you may return ~ from your graveyard to your hand.
- fog effects
The closest I can get to an interesting card is (not that much cubeable):
Mist Entity - 1W Creature - Spirit
Flying
When ~ enters the battlefield, target opponent gains control of it.
~ attacks each turn if able.
Whenever ~ attacks, prevent all combat damage that would be dealt this turn.
0/2
- "skill tester" cards akin to FoF and Gifts
Forget or Remember - 1BB Sorcery
Target opponent reveal his hand and separate it into two piles. That player discards the pile of your choice.
- Red randomness
Bloodthirsty Ogre - R Creature - Ogre
At the beginning of your upkeep flip a coin. If you lose the flip ~ deals 3 damage to you.
3/3
i like the ogre a lot! i think it's a bit strong, though. a red isamaru that deals 2 off a lost coin flip seems more likely to see print (it would play like a red carnophage).
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.

The gifts discard is way too powerful, needs to lose life to play or cost 2BB. Awesome though.
You are right once more. If we compare it to Persecute it's completely unfair. Against your average two colored decks Persecute needs to be named correctly and dodge artifacts and lands to be devastating. I think FoR would needs to be either:
Forget or Remember - 1BB Sorcery
Target opponent reveal his hand. Separate it into two piles. That player discards the pile of his choice.
or
Forget or Remember - 2BB Sorcery
Target opponent reveal his hand and separate it into two piles. That player discards the pile of your choice. Lose life equal to the number of cards discarded this way.
You're both on target here. Now that I made the comparison with carnophage that I see how 3/3 for R is busted. I think I like the 3/3 for 1R better.

I like the second one better, but we do have probably too much life loss in black. I will make sure one of the variants of this card will be in this cube. You make great cards, I enjoy all of them. I hope to see more of your cards in here.
I like the Squee type card for a discard outlet too, we should support a few cards for it.
I wouldn't mind seeing a few black lifelinking creatures to help support all of the loss we have.
Knight of Il-gotten-gain BB
Creature - Human Kngiht
First Strike, Lifelink
2/2 or 2/1
For some reason I like things with first strike to have a 1 toughness. I think 2 black first striekrs at 2 mana is the limit in the cube. We can probably get away with 3 first strikers in black in general.
We definitely need some form of ETB discard. Is it possible that one of the WB slots could fufill this role?
Holy Rats 1WB
Creature - Rats
When ~ enters the battlefield gain 3 life, and target player discards a card.
1/2 or 1/3
I think his ability being able to target yourself is important for reanimation support.
Knight of Il-gotten-gain BB

First Strike, Lifelink
2/2 or 2/1
For some reason I like things with first strike to have a 1 toughness.

I like both of these cards. BabyBlue and I have noticed we have too many 2/1s as is, and though I like first strikers to be 2/1 the Knight can be a 2/2. Holy Rats is very cool because he has two triggers which both are very nice with Recurring Flicker.
Lifegain Elemental - 2W Creature - Elemental
Whenever you gain life, put a +1/+1 counter on ~. 1W, Discard a card: You gain 3 life.
3/3
That seems really, really good sexy. Like too good lol. Recurring LD (even if you can't control it) needs to be at a higher casting cost. Maybe a conditional Blazing Specter at that price is good enough?
Wrecking Specter - 1BR Creature -Spectre
Flying, haste
Whenever Wrecking Specter deals combat damage to a player, flip a coin. If you win the flip, that player discards a card.
2/2
I didn't know about this until now, so sorry for a lack of contribution. Hopefully this makes the cut!
Dreamscape 1GU
Instant {R}
Reveal the top 5 cards of your library. For each creature card revealed this way, put a 1/1 green and blue Illusion creature token with flying onto the battlefield. Then, put the revealed cards on the top or bottom of your library in any order. "The line between dreams and reality is as thick as one chooses to make it."
I lowered the casting cost by 1 from its original incarnation in hopes of making it more aggressively costed for the cube. If you all deem it too strong, feel free to add the 1 back to it.
Make it a version of Phyrexian Crusader sans Infect and it will be great.
Big bad Knight of Il-gotten-gain 1BB
Creature - Human Kngiht
First Strike, Lifelink, Protection from White and from Red(or from Green)
2/2
Wrecking Specter - 1BR Creature -Spectre
Flying
Whenever CARDNAME deals combat damage to a player, flip a coin. If you win the flip, destroy target land. If you lose the flip, target player discards a card.
2/2
The first mode should definitely become a card on its own. How far can we push it on Red?
Landslide Specter - 1RR
Creature - Specter
Haste
Whenever ~ deals combat damage to a player, destroy target land that player controls.

This is a good point. that makes more sense.
All this talk of Black and Green haste makes me want to see a Black haste creature in here! I'll try to think something up.
My Custom Cube - a super-powered Core Set
I agree. Would you like to PM him or have you already? His cube's powerlevel is not consistent which is why I enjoy ours, but he does have really cool unique ideas that I would love to use.
Someone suggested this a long time ago, which I think is actually a big enough drawback:
Bear Maker - G
Sorcery
Put a 2/2 green Bear onto the battlefield.
I dislike the 2/1 bear as it is too powerful for green and we both agreed that there are too many 2/1s.
Here are more custom cube cards
Good submissions from his threads:
I like the name of the following card:
Unless this was part of a cycle I'd rather have:
Chimeric Wastes
Land
~ enters the battlefield tapped.
T: Add 1 to your mana pool
Tap all other lands you control: ~ becomes a 3/3 artifact creature until end of turn.
This belongs on the list of cards that should have already been printed by Wizards.
Stepping Stones
Land
T: Add 1 to your mana pool.
1, T, sacrifice ~: Draw a card.
Yes, yet another land to make Zuran Crucible a first pick.
Rune Rod - 2
Artifact
,T: Deal 1 damage to target creature.
This is a card I could love to see.
We also need some fatty artifacts to justify the artifact reanimation spell.
22-card Update:
- (Depart)
- (White Memory Lapse)
- Divination+
Agreed.
In the next update I'll probably drop a few cards, including the (Big RW Creature).
My Custom Cube - a super-powered Core Set
Here is a list of cleaver words we can pick from: http://randomlyawesomewords.wordpress.com/
Some new cards I created:
Oozey Fungus - G
Creature - Fungus Ooze
Mana doesn't empty from your mana pool as steps and phases end on your turn.
~ gets +1/+0 for each mana in your mana pool.
1/1
Quivin Plant Planter - 2G
Creature - Plant Shaman
1G, Sacrifice a creature: Search your library for a basic land card and put that card onto the battlefield tapped. Then shuffle your library.
1/3
Vigorous Teaking - 6GGG
Creature - Treefolk Shaman
When ~ enters the battlefield untap up to nine lands.
Sacrifice six Saprolings: ~ has shroud until end of turn.
2G: Put two 1/1 green Saprolings onto the battlefield.
3/11
(Leech) - B
Creature - Leech
Pay 3 life: ~ get +2/+2 until end of turn. Activate this ability only once each turn.
1/1
Limn - XGW
Sorcery
Destroy target permanent with converted mana cost X, you gain X life.
Mire Ooze - G
Creature - Ooze
Discard a card: regenerate CARDNAME, it gets +1/+1 until end of turn. Activate this ability only once each turn.
1/1
Spiteful Edict - BR
Instant
All players sacrifice your choice of an artifact, creature, or land.
We previously discussed this one:
(New Icy) - 5
Artifact
Tap an untapped artifact you control: Tap target creature.
Stepping Stones
Land
~ enters the battlefield tapped.
T: Add 1 to your mana pool.
1, T, sacrifice ~: Draw a card.
Red Port
Land
T: Add R to your mana pool, ~ deals 1 damage to you.
,T: Tap target nonbasic land.
I started by coming up with the ideal number of creatures each color should have. Here's what I came up with:
U: 18 creatures, 30 noncreatures
R: 21 creatures, 27 noncreatures
B: 24 creatures, 24 noncreatures
W: 27 creatures, 21 noncreatures
G: 30 creatures, 18 noncreatures
The idea of it being symmetrical is aesthetic, but it's not something we have to strictly follow or anything. Just a helpful guideline.
I guess Red and Black could possibly switch places- It's going to be hard to think up so much burn that doesn't obsolete other burn in the Cube! But for now I'll assume Black has a 24/24 split to use it for this exercise.
So how does this look for Black's creature curve?
1: ||||||
2: ||||||
3: ||||
4: |||
5: ||
6: ||
7: |
And we can thus narrow it down to the most important 2-drops, make sure we don't design too many 4-drops, etc.
For Black's noncreatures, on the other hand, I was trying to figure out how many of each effect it needs. This is a bit difficult.
Right now Black has 9 noncreature cards:
Mind Blast
2BB
Sorcery
Target player discards 3 cards at random.
OR
Cantrip to Tourach
2BB
I'd like to hear what you guys think about something like this:
W: 48 cards
U: 48 cards
B: 48 cards
R: 48 cards
G: 48 cards
X: 10 manastones, 30 other artifacts
:symuw:: 40 cards (2 gold cards and 2 hybrid cards for each guild)
T: 40 cards
40 gold in a real-life 360 Cube is often too much because most hybrid cards are not Cubeable, but in a Custom Cube where we design the cards, having two hybrid cards (plus one hybrid manastone) per dual-color combo does not suffer from the problem of "clogging up the packs" at all. Hybrid cards do the opposite. For example, a card can be played in WU, WB, UR, BR, RG, RW, and GW. Plus, gold/hybrid cards are fun to design! And we can smooth things even further by making a or two in each color. I love that mechanic.
My Custom Cube - a super-powered Core Set
I do think that the manastones should be in multicolor. I am unsure if all 10 mulicolor sections really want those manastones. I believe that all blue ones want them but not RG, RB, or BG.
I do think we should sort the big list of cards by first creature and noncreature, then by cmc. After that we tally up which mechanics are fulfilled in the noncreture sections: spot removal, reani, discard...
While reading this I realized there has been no targeted removal + sweeper, here is mine (may not be powerful enough):
Target or Sweep - 3BB
Sorcery
A suggested card name:
Lure Basilisk = Risible Basilisk
Risible – |ˈrizəbəl|: Such as to provoke.
My Custom Cube - a super-powered Core Set
Eight-and-a-Half-Tails says hello.
Nice catch, I forgot about him! Someone in the other thread mentioned Wild Mongrel too.
My Custom Cube - a super-powered Core Set
Other than protection we might have pump:
Some Creature - WW
Creature
Other white creatures get +1/+1.
Creatures you control are white.
2/2
Avalanche Elemental - 4RR
Creature - Elemental
Haste.
When ~ enters the battlefield put an avalanche counter on up to 4 target lands. For as long as that land has an avalanche counter on it, it is a mountain. (The land will still be a mountain after ~ has left the battlefield.)
4/5
Pure lifegain needs to be massive or tackled on some reusable mechanic.
Squee's Medikit - W
Instant
Gain 1 life or prevent 1 damage that would be dealt to target creature or player this turn.
At the beginning of your upkeep you may return ~ from your graveyard to your hand.
The closest I can get to an interesting card is (not that much cubeable):
Mist Entity - 1W
Creature - Spirit
Flying
When ~ enters the battlefield, target opponent gains control of it.
~ attacks each turn if able.
Whenever ~ attacks, prevent all combat damage that would be dealt this turn.
0/2
Forget or Remember - 1BB
Sorcery
Target opponent reveal his hand and separate it into two piles. That player discards the pile of your choice.
Bloodthirsty Ogre - R
Creature - Ogre
At the beginning of your upkeep flip a coin. If you lose the flip ~ deals 3 damage to you.

The gifts discard is way too powerful, needs to lose life to play or cost 2BB. Awesome though.
Bloodthirsty Ogre should cost 1R, still would be above curve and cubeable.
You're both on target here. Now that I made the comparison with carnophage that I see how 3/3 for R is busted. I think I like the 3/3 for 1R better.
You are right once more. If we compare it to Persecute it's completely unfair. Against your average two colored decks Persecute needs to be named correctly and dodge artifacts and lands to be devastating. I think FoR would needs to be either:
Forget or Remember - 1BB
Sorcery
Target opponent reveal his hand. Separate it into two piles. That player discards the pile of his choice.
or
Forget or Remember - 2BB
Sorcery
Target opponent reveal his hand and separate it into two piles. That player discards the pile of your choice. Lose life equal to the number of cards discarded this way.
Calvin and Hobbes
Cube Tutor
I like both of these cards. BabyBlue and I have noticed we have too many 2/1s as is, and though I like first strikers to be 2/1 the Knight can be a 2/2. Holy Rats is very cool because he has two triggers which both are very nice with Recurring Flicker.
Lifegain Elemental - 2W
Creature - Elemental
Whenever you gain life, put a +1/+1 counter on ~.
1W, Discard a card: You gain 3 life.
3/3
Wrecking Specter - 1BR
Creature -Spectre
Flying, haste
Whenever Wrecking Specter deals combat damage to a player, flip a coin. If you win the flip, that player discards a card.
2/2
I didn't know about this until now, so sorry for a lack of contribution. Hopefully this makes the cut!
Dreamscape 1GU

Reveal the top 5 cards of your library. For each creature card revealed this way, put a 1/1 green and blue Illusion creature token with flying onto the battlefield. Then, put the revealed cards on the top or bottom of your library in any order.
"The line between dreams and reality is as thick as one chooses to make it."
I lowered the casting cost by 1 from its original incarnation in hopes of making it more aggressively costed for the cube. If you all deem it too strong, feel free to add the 1 back to it.

Creature - Human Kngiht
First Strike, Lifelink, Protection from White and from Red(or from Green)
2/2
The first mode should definitely become a card on its own. How far can we push it on Red?
Landslide Specter - 1RR
Creature - Specter
Haste
Whenever ~ deals combat damage to a player, destroy target land that player controls.
