I'm currently constructing a cube on my own. It's 85% or so finished (I know a cube is never really finished but I hope you get what I mean). I hope to get it up and running (i.e playable) in the next 2-3 weeks. I'm going to be ordering a whole lot of slips to put my whole cube into.
OK onto the question: For a 360 card cube (8 players max), how many of each basic land would you recommend I put into slips for the cube?
This is just so I know how many slips to order etc. I apologise if this has already been covered in one of the many cube articles referenced in the Read Me First thread.
it seems unlikely this will ever happen but if no one uses any nonbasic lands, if you figure 17 land per person, you're looking at 136 sleeves for land, and that is about 27 of each basic. i would get more to be safe though. 30 sounds pretty good.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
I'd err on the high side especially if you're planning on running a cube greater than 360. If you do sometimes your drafts end up skewed to some color and you'll need more lands of each color. I think quieter's suggestion of 150 sleeves is probably right, but if you want to skimp for some reason, you're probably going to be ok around 120 but then I'd have some unsleeved basics in my box, just in case.
I'm playing 30 of each with six people and it is always enough except once. I ended up just playing a couple of tokens I had as some basic lands. I'm upping mine to 35 as soon as the sleeves I ordered arrive.
I'm going to go ahead and slip up 30 of each, and order a few extra slips just in case.
Just another question, if anyone is still reading this thread, what sort of slips do you use for your cube?
I ask this because for tournaments, I like to use KMC sleeves (the japanese ones), but I've found that they start breaking rapidly after mid-long term use. For my cube, obviously I'd like something that's going to last the distance.
I hate the japanese sleeves. I've purchased them twice and both times they broke extrememly quickly and I dont like the way they feel when you shuffle them.
On the other hand, Dragon Shields never fail to impress me. They are really durable and I like the way they shuffle. Our cube is cased with the blue ones. I would go with those.
I'm using 30 of each right now. 450 card cube, I'm planning on upping it to 40 if I ever run into a situation where I need more.
I'm using white dragon shields for my cube, and I have nothing but good things to say about them.
I'm using the pink dragon shields. I've only had two sleeves get damaged but they are still playable. The only thing I do not like about dragon shields is the availability of them. I had to spend quite a bit on them too but they'll last so it's totally worth it. I have been using them for about six months by the way.
Ordered myself 100 more to add some more cards to my ~450 cube.
I've used both Raven Black Ultra Pros and White Dragonshields. I had very few of the Ultra Pro's break on me (at the time I had a 720 card cube), I switched to ultra pro when I went down to 450 cards.
