This is a fringe card that I've been pondering about for a while as a 1-2 of in the board.
The element of surprise would work in its favor for now, as Grim Return isn't really seeing any competitive play. But with the amount of cheap removal we run, the 3 CMC seems reasonable enough if we want to pull a creature from the opponent's graveyard that looks tasty. A benefit can also be had of persisting our own creatures in a more transparent way than having a Whip of Erebos out for everybody to see, while also allowing The Returned to survive for more than one turn.
And look at that damn art. Guy arms himself with the sword that killed him. Imagine a Stormbreath Dragon beating face with the Doom Blade that pierced his heart.
