I thought the point of running red was to main deck the RR. Besides any red deck variant the card is crazy to play with. Between gray merchant and RR. They are dead within 2 turns. I also like the 1 of Erebos in the main. I played E-Fro's list Saturday and RR was backbreaking against esper. As a 2 of you won't get stuck with both in your hand too often and it's really the main reason to run red. I might be cutting a pack rat for a dreadbore. I don't have enough experience with it yet. I would to hear result soviet when you are done.
Very true civil. I just watched a match where MBD was splashing red and lost 2-0 to monsters. Should we be main decking ultimate price? Or even doom blade?? I know devour flesh is for blood baron but how much are we seeing of that card? What other mutli-color creatures scare us?
I don't really fear anything other than Blood Baron when it comes to creatures.
The SB is a mess it generally includes some number of those cards without or without Dark Betrayal, Chandra, an another ultimate price. Pretty much the only set in stone cards are slaughter games. i have tried keyrunes before but ever since I added Magma jets have haven't missed them. One thing I have not tried very much is Storm Breath Dragon. Figured Merchant already did a pretty good job at closing games. Also haven't tried sire of insanity out very much in this build either. Might have to try that out.

Gah. Too late. Will try w/o RR and see how it works.
It's a few cards off from the version I ran tonight, but definitely improved (no Pack Rats, for one thing). I'm trying out Mogis in place of Erebos, and he seems pretty insane, especially in the mirror.
I really like your list. I especially like the side board. If I had 1 critique, I don't like 3 kill spells at sorcery speed. What do we think about Mogis Marauder? Seems like forcing damage through, plus gary, plus RR could steal some games.

The ssorcery-speed removal actually worked really well for me. Mortars is insane. Dreadbore is almost like a fifth Downfall. Obviously it would be even better if there was more instant-speed removal that good, but I guess we can't have our cake and eat it too.
I like Marauder, but it gets a lot worse when we cut Pack Rat. The only target it really has in a Ratless list is Gary. There's nothing in the deck I really want to cut for it.
I agree with you on marauder. Seems too narrow. I am really liking E-Fro's list the more I play it. There was an article on starcity about cutting the whip for a maindeck duress and I really like that idea. I read E-Fro's article today and he said that's the only cards he would cut. How has Mogis been?

Haven't tested Mogis yet, but in almost every situation I've had Erebos, Mogis would have been better. And I agree, EFro's list is WAY better than straight Mono-B. I like the list that I'm running right now because of the higher removal quality, although cutting a Bile Blight for a MD Duress is definitely an option.
Blue and white splashes together look great on paper, but when you actually play the deck, it feels like a bad version of Esper. Granted, the list I tried was a bad version of Esper, but still, it's not good. As for cutting blue, if you want to play Orzhov Control, they have their own thread. The defining characteristic of this deck is Gary.
What are people's thoughts on Staff of the Death Magus? It seems really good right now because of Burn. I'm not sure if I want to make room for it in the sideboard though.

Seems really good against burn. Also 3 MBD decks made top 8 at GP Beijing. All playing straight black and all main decking pack rat. It also won the tournament. Interesting. Has the red splash lost its luster already?
I still think EFro's list is better than the straight Mono-B lists that made top 8. Pack Rat is good in a slow meta, and with burn on the rise, Standard is moving away from that. The red splash is great against control, which will still be an important MU, though not as important as it was a couple weeks ago. I wish there was another way to beat burn, though...
I can't understand how most (not all) of you are killing Pack Rat? The card is a house. Period. If it sticks it feeds the Gary's devotion to put the game out of reach. If it doesn't, it's a spell that ate a removal spell that can't hit something bigger in your deck, like a Zombie, Gary or Specter. Most players will kill a T2 Rat just outta fear, and then you just drop a Zombie or Specter next turn. Very easy to play around if you play Seize T1.
@PJI- I still feel a splash is overrated. The deck is just too consistent mono colored.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it....
Inn my opinion the key to the deck is a T1 Seize (or Duress) You need to see what they have in hand in order to make the correct play. If I see removal, I'm either taking it or let them kill my Rat, so I can drop LBZ or NS netx turn. If I don't see removal, then they get a face full of rats.

Too many things in the 3 spot. Strictly SB, but what do you take out for it, UC?

E-Fro's list is running 3 Phrarika's cure out of the board. I have been playing that list on cockatrice and doing well with it. I lost the match to a burn deck last night, but the only reason I won the second game was because of cure. Its better that the artifact and it kills a guy too. Just my thoughts.

With Pack Rat gone from the main of many Mono-B lists, can we afford to just play Cure over Bile Blight? It would free up sideboard slots, and there aren't that many creatures that BB kills and Cure doesn't.

Seems great in a control-heavy meta. I can't find any holes in the deck, other than Pack Rat.
