Presumably people are running Doom Blades in the side at the very least, so doesn't it make sense to compliment those with Dark Betrayal? It's cheaper and hits everything that Doom Blade doesn't hit.
I rate Ultimate Price at a 2.0 (out of 5) as far as sideboard cards go. Not that I'm closed off from someone changing my mind or taking the topic to another place.
after playing the last few weeks on mtgo, I've preferred price over blade. Most of the meta is filled with Esper, black devotion, blue devotion, and r/g devotion and price hits just as many if not more targets from my experience. I will remain confident with heroes downfall, my choices between my 2cmc removal depends on what I'm looking to face. For example, right now my list is doom blades main, pharika cure and betrayal in the aside along with a singleton far // away to respond to the occasional stray blood baron. Most people would criticize only one sac effect and 0 devour flesh in my 75 but i haven't had much issue with the mirror. U/w has given me more fits from control than other Esper decks.

Wait, you prefer Price but your not running it...you're running the cards that I said are better.
i think devour flesh is better if your looking for a doom blade alternative. price seems bad since it doesnt hit a lot of things. doesnt hit frostburn weird, mutavault, nightveil specture, boros reckoner, burning tree emissary, judges familiar, rurc thar and xenagos tokens. i never liked price since compared to doom blade or even flesh, the targets are more limited than you would think.
all price really hits over doom blade is desecration demon and lifebane zombie. to me that doesnt sound too great since lifebane isnt always brought in verse esper and theres many other ways to kill demon.
Ultimate Price is a good card in my opinion. Let's skip Esper in this discussion as Esper's creature threats are few and protects themselves well.
I prefer it over Doom Blade, because Ultimate Price has targets in every deck while there are decks where Doom Blade is dead. I run 2 Devour Flesh and 1 Ultimate Price main.
Ultimate Price is much better against Mono Black and Rakdos Haste than Doom Blade (still it is weak against Rakdos Haste but at least kills Tormented Hero and Mogis Marauder). Doom Blade kills only Mutavault in Mono Black. I understand that this is a potent threat because whatever Ultimate Price kills, dies to Verdict anyway, but I still se Ultimate Price as a better card overall.
Obzedat, Alms Beast, Militant, Master of Cruelties, Prophet sees almost no play.
Voice, Loxodon, Fleecmane all play in the same deck that didn't put any bigger results for a long time.
Nightveil, Baron, Cackler and all of Gods can't be hit by Doom Blade either (I see Doom Blade as closest alternative for Ultimate Price).
And BTE is just a 2/2 for 2. Sure it pumps devotion but that's it and I don't see myself in a huge need of killing BTE. Reckoner is 3/3 for 3 that is bad against our Barons.
To sum up - if I want point creature removal, I value Ultimate Price higher than Doom Blade. There is only one really problematic creature that gets hit by Doom Blade which is Mutavault and that's it. I think that golem tokens may be a problem too, but I played too few games against decks using Hammer of Purphoros to really get a solid opinion on this.
Our experiences are shaped from different experiences. I've yet to (in over hundreds of games) faced the GP version of haste Rakdos) I've faced Selesnya aggro, in two GP's and many times online. My local meta also has two strong players that love to jam Voice and the Lion.
Ultimate Price in my hand usually kills me against a lot of things. I consider it much worse than Doom Blade because if I want I can always compliment it in the sideboard with Dark Betrayal, that covers all the bases.
Mutavault, Nightveil specter and Boros Reckoner are important problems to deal with at the moment.
UA lives: Rakdos haste won GP Santiago. It has good matchup against Mono Black and Esper. I certainly understand that this is not a deck that put big numbers in big tourneys, this is the truth.
The thing is that I have a GP in two weeks and I want to be prepared. I don't want to go 0-2 (actually 2-2 cause I have two byes) because I face a deck that I knew it exist, I knew it is cheap and easy to drive and I knew that it has great MU against me but I just refused to prepare against it. Rakdos haste is very tempting because how cheap it is and how good it is against big portion of field and I am afraid of big metashift.
IDK, maybe I am too afraid. I don't even think about my local meta when discussing my choices, because in my local meta RB is certainly something that you have to consider so there is no discussion here :).
You have good reason to be afraid. Definitely expect it as the deck costs what <$100 dollar to put together? The nut Rakdos (or any aggro really) draw will always be super tough to deal with for Esper. If you are that afraid of Rakdos aggro, consider using some of the recommended sideboard creatures (SoP or Ox).

There is another strategy when sideboarding. We can't be good against everything. We can't have adequate answers for everything. Sometimes you just "pick your fights". If I can make a prediction it would be that since everyone is talking about aggro right now you will see a shift to G/W midrange, maybe a small shift but enough to change the meta.
G/W is a horrid match-up for RDW and Rakdos haste. All the creatures sit better on the curve and there is easy lifegain through Unflinching Courage and we will see an appearance by Centaur Healer if need be.
You could dedicate 6-8 sideboard spots to aggro if you like. Your deck still wont have the creatures to block like midrange decks. You can pick the aggro battle and we can talk about that, but I'm not so scared of this match-up that I'm going to compromise my others very much.

Well said, well said. After all what does adding 4 creatures from the sideboard do..they take up 4 SB slots and then you hope to see ONE. Let's hope there are plenty of G/W and more midrangey decks come Providence this weekend. I will welcome them with open arms. =D!
TBH Soldier of Pantheon is also good against GW blocking many of their creatures like a champ (not so good when they put Courage on them but still...).
To be clear, I'm not disagreeing with you guys. I'm just saying with only 75 cards to include in your deck one must make tough choices on what they are good at fighting.
For example if you check out the main board of the variant I promoted, it doesn't have anything strictly situational. It's ultra flexible mainboard and then we find our more specific answer for game two and three. Is it the best way? Not necessarily, but it is A way, and you can quickly understand the plan.
Knowing what your deck is trying to do is important. Knowing what it doesn't do well is crucial, against the decks that you have problems with it's best to "take chances" roll the dice a little more, since the normal thing ain't getting it done.

I view this as an ok sideboard card. Nothing spectacular in light of the fact it's dead against so many of the best threats in so many decks.
Does anyone actually main-board this card?
If so, how do you justify your choice over so many more versatile cards?
I find it to not even be a good sideboard card, serviceable no doubt, but not a necessity.
The reason I don't like it is because it misses so many things like:Boros Reckoner, Obzedat, Ghost Council; Blood Baron of Vizkopa, Nightveil Specter, Voice of Resurgence, Loxodon Smiter, Fleecemane Lion, Alms Beast, Burning-Tree Emissary, Dryad Militant, Mutavault, Rakdos Cackler, Hammer 3/3 tokens, any of the Gods, Master of Cruelties, Prophet of Krufix, and a host of others.
On the other hand it hits good cards Master of Waves, Desecration Demon, Pack Rat (not well), Mistcutter Hydra, World Eater, Stormbreath Dragon, 5/5 wurm tokens, mana dorks, etc.
