An honor of the pure and an armorsmith do just fine for the rest of the deck. And the way I see it, they have to nuke the spectral tokens pretty much as soon as they come out, unless they want to eat 6 (or 8 including their own fallout) or wait until they become too big. I would rather see a fallout hit t3-t4 than later when i decide to drop off my bigger threats.
Given, you never want to overextend, but forcing them to sweep before they need to is ALWAYS a good thing.
Yes, that is fine for the rest of the deck, but what happens when you don't draw honor of the pure (or it gets destroyed)? Then all of a sudden your s**t out of luck.
Right now, a lot of the meta is consisting of 5 color and jund so as such, goldmane just seems to be getting worse and worse. That being said, here is how my deck looks right now:
I tried Ajani in the side instead of martial coup to see if there was a deck i would have wanted ajani, but i never sided it back in. Just went 3-1-1 with this at FNM. My bottom line is that soldiers just doesn't really need this guys to win games, and if you do, you might as well go back to the kithkin shell...
you say that while running stalwart, burrenton, and militia's pride md:rolleyes:
we aren't running ajani because kithkin are, we're running him because we are essentially a token deck with awesome synergy and ajani has always done wonders for token decks. i've taken out elspeth because even though she does have synergy, i've found myself wanting ajani in her place every time.
Seriously. It makes Soldiers... that get pumped by HotP... that have flying... at instant speed.
It's a great combat trick. You can use it offensively or defensively. Sure, you have to switch to Bant colors, but that's not a huge sacrifice, because of the new duals and Seaside Citadel.
Here's my proposal for Bant Soldiers (with Flurry of Wings):
I don't think it's worth to splash green just for the flurry and CC. CC doesn't even get pumped by honor. It's even less worth it to splash blue just for the flurry. You're sacrificing consistency just for cards which don't really help that much. Spectral is a guaranteed 3 flyers anytime you cast it. What do you do if they fallout and you're clutching the flurry? The citp manabase also hurts your 1-drop. And the pikemaster is subpotimal. My 2cts... :/
So I have my deck now and I am stuck on my sideboard. I see alot of different sideboards and I know that it should be more dependant on what decks I am running against but are there cards that I should get just becuase they are good and then decided which to sideboard in. Staples like ethersworn canonist?

Kithkin doesn't run militia's pride and just about any deck that splashes white runs BFT. Stalwart....i just started running because he is a soldier 2/2 for 1.
MY argument wasn't that ajani was meant for kithkin, my argument is that ajani is getting worse and worse for both kithkin and soldiers since for jund and 5 color, you usally side him out for and that is the meta that a lot of FNMs around me are doing. The use of ajani was justified for running spectral procession, and obviously from my previous posts, i disagree that soldiers should be running spectral...

I have to ask, how much speed do you lose by switching to bant colors? Your fixing looks good, but now, your only running 11 lands that can produce mana on turn 2, which seems like your trading consistancy for flexibility. I would love to hear how this does at tournaments, but just from what i can see, i think you cut the windbrisk heights for plains just to help you get the consistant turn 1 drops (since the duals WILL produce mana on turn 2).
Also, i dissed Rhox Pikemaster for quite some time, how does he work for you?
Kithkin doesn't run militia's pride and just about any deck that splashes white runs BFT. Stalwart....i just started running because he is a soldier 2/2 for 1.

i noticed that you were running more kithkin than most of us, so thats why i said what i said.
i agree with you on spectral, its not really necessary, i'm not running windbrisk either, i'm concentrating on speed and both of those cards and elspeth have been slowing me down.
My two annoyances about the deck is that I'm running 18 cards SB, while this is fine at this testing stage, I am unsure what to take out. Believe it or not, Celestial Purges have not been as usefull as I would have liked but I don't know what my standard meta for FNM will be.
So any help would be awsome,
Charles
Edit: Before you ask, Baneslayer is to break stalemates and is amazing at this.
Edit 2: Any other advice/improvements would be cool too.
Notes:
- Knight of the White Orchid has worked very well with acceleration despite it's non-tribalness.
- I got no Planewalkers, don't suggest any.
- Is the mana curve all right? 21 Plains enough?
My brother took my deck to FNM, it lost to Warp World but won against Elves and Haunting Echoes/Discard/Mill. My brother was pissed at the Mill user because after he did an Haunting Echoes and made my brother go through deck removing, he surrendered next turn. Come on, if you know you're going lose, surrender and don't do a time consuming move like Echoes.
Any comments?

@WTF_PWN:i suggest taking out the martial coups for a couple more plains, besides that the list looks fine.
Edit: i think you should also consider mirror entity, if you're trying to be ready for the rotation thats fine, but mirror entity is a beast in this deck.

Yeah, Preeminent is as far as I go for pre rotation. I got them in a few trades so I'm using them in the mean time.

I took fifth last week at FNM.
Lost to combo elves, all the cards I sideboarded in were at the bottom.
The only other times I lost were due to mana screw.
This week, I went out and traded for Stillmoon Cavalier
We shall see how it goes.

Through the darkness of futures past,
The Magician longs to see,
One chants out between two worlds,
Fire walk with me.
i like the ideas we are speculating, but despite the threads name, i think we should be considering a 2nd color we will need to splash...
So far, im leaning behind red and green. Red would give us bolt, banefire, and glory of warfare. Green gives us dauntless escort and behemoth sledge. Mono white may still be good, but we lose a lot of speed losing preeimenant captain and windbrisk heights. Blue seems tepting with sleep, but i feer that's really all i get and its a bit heavy blue. And black is just bad from my testing.
I do not know about a splash.
I mean I can see the benifits, but a solid mono build is more than capable of taking down most of the decks out there.
Playing against most of the people at the shop I go to it killed : Merfolk, BBE, Mirror (Kithkin or Soldiers, pretty much just a race), BG Elves, Combo Elves (with sideboard), and easily beat a few 5CC's.
I will have to playtest a few builds with other colors perhaps.

I know, which is why im talking post rotation when we lose some cards that helps give us our consistancy. I think we need green UNLESS zendikar gives us some enemy colored duals. Even then, it will be hard to do. Right now, i think mono-white is the way to go at least until post rotation..
My side is:
1x Harm's Way
1x Path to Exile
2x MArtial Coup
2x Unmake
3x Celestial Purge
3x Ethersworn CAnnonist
3x Silence
It doesn't have to be as complex as that. And if you look at my decklist, it shows my reasoning. I already run two BFT main so if you don't have them main, that is always good. Mark of Asylum is great if you have a lot of red in your meta. And nothing is wrong with Stillmoon Cavaliar if you feel like spending money on a card that will rotate out anyway....
Veteran Swordsmith is a good card, but not good enough until spectral procession rotates out (And I even place Hearthfire Hobgoblin above it).
any tips about the deckfile?
First off, Heathfire Hobgoblin rotates out with Spectrel so you may no have a choice......
2nd off, i must of tested soldiers hundreds of times and just with our meta, and what ive been seeing, i don't think ajani is the prime card for soldiers anymore. I think elspeth would be better in your pw slot. I sound like a hypocrite, i know since i was with ajani in the earliar part of this thread of Ajani vs. Elspeth, but in this time, she does the job better...
If you're splashing green for flurry, you might as well consider putting Sigil Captain in the deck so that the bird soldiers will get a pump when coming into play. With Captain of the watch, they would be 4/4 vigilant fliers. 5/5 with HoTP.
@ Cramer30: As far as SB goes, typical things ive seen (and run) are BFT, Celestial Purge, the Canonist, Martial Coup, and O-Ring.

Sigil Captain is ok, but with all our soldier lords and honors, seems like it wouldn't do us much good. Also please note, that green would be post rotation since escort just stares in disbelief when Hallowed Burial hits
but this is the best topic for soldier.decks. And pre-rotation, mono white is still good to go. All these color splashing theories are for post rotation, for the record, if that wasn't clear. The thing i have with making a new topic is that it would be incredibly similiar to this one save maybe 8-10 cards....
