you have to have 6 legal targets when you cast Hex though it will still resolve if some of the targets arent around when it does resolve.
has anyone thought about playing the Golgaru signet? It seems a perfect replacement for the talismans and gets you those 3rd turn Yukora/Persecute/Crainial (particularly fun against gifts). The deck will miss Mox the most though in my oppinion as the card advantage from a turn 2 arena is sooooo good as well as getting the almost impossible but ever-so amazing turn 2 persecute with the talisman.
ok--hex is a bad card. Period. If there are six different creatures on the board that you would like to target--then you haven't been doing your job as an MBC player. THose should have fallen to edicts, hand disruption, or other kill spells.
A hideous laughter is preferable to hex in almost every scenario.
And personally, I would rather see a Kagemaro pop and wipe the board.
As to the comment about me running too many arena--that's not a problem. You need to see that turn 3 arena to win most games with MBC. The extra's I'll see I'll pitch to a sickening shoal.
And that's why I also run 3 consume spirit.

We lose nothing, except maybe echoing decay. And we get putrefy!
We just have to add tendo and llanowar wastes
The new metagame seems to be control based, and there is one mechanic that rapes other forms of control.
Discard.
WE bring it. Others don't.

we also lose Death Cloud which I feel is the biggest reason why MBC is now a pretender. No mass land and hand destruction = bad times. By the way, I hardly consider Blackmail effective discard. Distress is ok, but unless we start maindecking Persecute then we have no more decent hand disruption. Nezumi Shortfang is not an option since we will just end up killing him with our own board sweepers.
or you could have acceleration or spot and go for a 3,4 for 1 and Kagemaro Turn 5 or six I believe WW would be MBC's best match up. Spot until Board sweeper Kage or hideous or even persecute would hit 3 cards. then the win with kagemaro Yukora Kokusho or consume
by turn four for the laughter ww coould have 5-6 creatures out with the anthem, and thats it ur dead
??? 4-5 creatures with anthem by turn 4? and how is this accomplished? look, if you have nothing to do turn 2-4 then maybe this deck just isn't for you. if you can't distress, edict, putrefy, whisper, or accel into a turn 3 laughter or yukora before turn 4 then theres no hope for you...im having trouble remembering the last time i lost to WW, it should be your best matchup. just get them into topdeck mode and win...
The biggest reason MBC is a pretended is that Damping Matrix is gone. That card was the reason to run MBC since you didn't have anything too adversely affected in a solid build. Right now MBC nees Sickening Shoal. Just that simple. With the speed of WW, Sickening Shoal is a mandatory 4 of. I didn't like it before, but now with how WRW is doing, the only reason I am in games is because of the freeness. Also, Night of Souls' Betrayal is so needed, it isn't even funny. Against decks like BG it stops Nekrataals, Birds, Elves, Elders... Against WW, it can catch their fliers until big, bad Anthem shows up. Against Gifts it stops the Hana Engine for a bit. Oh yeah, it makes Kagemaro even better.
Also, there most likely should be 4 Arena and a few Boilers. Also, a couple of the new BG common duals should be included so that you can actually use the Boiler effectively. Not to mention it gives you better mana reach. Arena is better than Moonlight Bargain for MBC because the cost for what you get is too high of a price for MBC. Also, Pithing Needle might be main deck worth times 4 as Jitte can be really really bad for MBC.

PS: Blackmail sucks.
eh, i haven't found the need for sickening shoal as of yet. i agree, NoSB is needed md, it just helps in so many matchups. huh, i hadn't thought about plague boiler in here, but i am using the b/g signet and llanowar waste so i guess its not to much of stretch. was using them to cast putrefy(helps md with my jitte troubles) and naturalize out of the board. i haven't seen the need for the needle at all actually, with running naturalize out of the board i haven't really had artifact trouble and i usually kill all of their creatures. with yukora, NoSB, edict, distress, and putrefy i haven't had to much trouble surviving wrw's early rush. after that exile into darkness and kegamaro help keep them down, and consume spririt gets me my life back.
ok jakal i played ww last fridayd this how it went, with my laughter.
i was first:
turn 1 swamp - go
plains - hawk , go
turn 2 swamp -edict
plains go
turn 3 swamp -nothing
end of turn he raises for 2 ww
his turn promise of bunrei
turn 4 swamp nothing
end of turn he raises 2 more ww
his turn he lays down anthem
in response i hideous laughter clear his board and give him 4 1/1's from bunrei
which are 4 2/2's because of anthem.
turn 5 i lay yukora to try and save my self
next turn he lays down pladin en-vec and another alarm
this = good game.
so by turn five he had 6 2/2's (because of the anthem), an anthem, a paladin, who is pro black and first stike by the way which is a 3/3 and i have yukora what am i supposed to do??? please let me know.

you doing nothing turn 3 and 4 probably did you in. RtA is annoying, but shouldn't be to much of a problem, although when he cast 3 in the first 5 turns thats rough. you should have more stuff to do with 3 and four mana though. i prefer night of souls' betrayal and kegamaro to deal with my weenie troubles. also, i haven't played my non-RAV MBC deck in some time, maybe you should try something else till the rotation, it takes RtA with it...

MBC has many spells that are board sweepers. It's a great creature control deck. Yes WW and Black Hand can sworm you and hit you for alot of damage early, but turn 4 is a crucial turn for MBC to reset the board. Night of Soul's Betrayal , Hideous Laughter and Kagemaro Fist to Suffer come to mind as the cards that can reset the game for MBC. All 3 or any combination of 2 could go a long way to overcoming your problems with WW.
I run 3 Hideous Laughter, and 3 Kagemaro MD and I run 2 or 3(I can't seem to remember the amount) Night of Souls Betrayal SB to deal with weenie decks. I also run 3 Quicksand which I have found to be a great help in dealing with the Paladin in Vec and his pro black.
If you had played a Night of Soul's Betrayal on your 4th turn you would have stopped Raise the Alarm and the tokens from the Promise of the Bunrei. You would have needed to deal with his creatures in a differant fashion after Glorious Anthem hits the board but then you could have playedKagemaro First to Suffer or Hideous Laughter to deal with is pumped up creatures.
Do you run any Quicksand ? If you don't you should think about running at least 3. They will help with the Paladin in Vec , and any other pesky 2/2 that may hit the board. Using Quicksand along with Kagemaro or Laughter can be a way of dealing with the pumped up creatures from the Glorious Anthem also.

"Are you going to bark all day little doggie, or are you going to bite?"
gentlemen, i run all that stuff and i could not find it at the right time. thats why im here asking for advise. i run 4 quicksand, 2 kagemaro, and 3 NoSB!!!! thats what i cant understand. how could i not beat WW??? i also run MD persecute i dont know what to do? i am going to try rats this week or black hand. i still haven't decided yet. im leaning towards rats but which of the 2 decks do you guys think is better??
Quicksand would not have helped in the situation that PJ I described since the Palladin was a 3/3 due to Glorious Anthem. There's nothing MBC could do except kill all of his other creatures and then follow up with Cruel Edict .

It doesn't say six different target creatures, so i was just wondering...
