Agreed, but only in a non aggro version of the deck. While the main build I use (the regular control version of U/G) runs Gifts, I really don't think it's right in an aggro build of U/G. I'd expound upon my aggro ideas, but we're getting away from the actual topic of U/G control. I may have to revive that U/G aggro thread eventually though...

A ton of people are running a more 'agro' U/G which I don't have a problem with. I mean, Germany Regionals won with Agro and it had ninjas running around in it (well, a lot of us have tested Deep Hours but he won with a copy of Higure which isn't a bad idea not to mention a bigger power/toughness).
*shrug* I think people just want to use Jittes and Swords of Fire and Ice Darn equipment!
Currently I am running into a lot of trouble when I play online. Maybe it is the crappy shuffling MWS does but I am having to mulligan at least once every duel it seems and that just messes me up. I usually will shuffle for quite a bit (in real life, I mean) and will draw something like 2-3 lands with at least 1 counter and 1 mana acceler (sakura or kodama's).
Also I have been wondering since I am running 4x Gifts, maybe I should try to plop 1x Stampeding Serow in my deck? I will play test it tomorrow but recycling Eternal Witness every round, not to mention a power puncher with 5 power is pretty nice. It may just do the damage that when they dystroy and bounce it back to my hand, I can Rude Awakening and swing for a lowwer ammount and win. Maybe I could take out 1x Echoing Truth and 1x Gifts? Hmmmm, tough call indeed. We'll see.

The Serow is defiinitely something I've considered running. Considering it has the added bonus of the fact you never have to worry about someone shackling it and swinging with it (as it will bounce before they can swing...unless you're playing the U/G mirror which I haven't seen in a very long time.), it's definitely a worthy consideration.

Eradicate? I'd say no. While Cranial/Eradicate have the same CMC, the double BB in Eradicate's cost makes it far less accessable than that of the Extraction. Sure, Eradicate can hit something that's already in play, but I hardly think it's worth it due to the BB...
Yeah... definatlly the caffenine talking last night about Eradicate I played a little this morning and was wondering what I was thinking.
So far having 1x Stampeding in there is good, I -1x Echoing Truth, and it hasn't bit me in the butt yet. But I am not sure what else I can get rid of. I am tempted to run 2x but I don't have the room and it isn't a mechanic I need to be horribely worried about, it just really helps. I'll either draw it or Gift it (with the whole Witness thing going).

It is, 4x Gifts Ungiven and that is almost always casted at the opponent's EoT step unless I have tons of mana and that is near the only thing in my hand. That way I can grab all my win conditons as well as things to obtain them again if Gifts fails (another gifts, Twincast, Witness, or even truth if I have a Witness in play already).
So far it is pretty solid. I never seem to bring all three Quash's from my SB to my maindeck as, I have a fear of "over-dosing' on the mana heavy casting cost, and I am never sure what to replace it with. Though having 1x bribery in my maindeck has been key lately as there is a lot of decks that don't have many creatures so it is risky playing 2, not to mention I can already Twincast or get it back. Also the 1x copy of cards make it hard for opponents to Cranial Extract if they ever pull that off.

I have recently gotten a hold of some Gifts Ungivens and I have been determined to make a deck with them. I traded like 30 some foil commons/uncommons and a Bringer of the White Dawn for a Kokusho and 4 Gifts, i didn't want the foils neway, I was going to give them all to her but it turned out the trade equaled out to be perfectly all of them. I have been in a frantic search for a deck to play in Standard and I finally found one….. Gifts Ungiven. Keep in mind that this is my first decklist. I have made some changes to fit my own personal preferences and my collection or lack there of. There are a couple of ideas in the deck that I really like right now, and therefore am not willing to take out, but I am up for any advice.

2 Silent Arbiter (good against rushes, but susceptible, possibly best against Green, but green has destruction But I think it may be better if I find a replacement for the Arbiter)

1 Hibernation (good against green)
2 Sylvan Scrying (search for Boseiju if gainst U)
2 Carry Away (take's care of Swords and Jittes)
2 Blood Moon (T&N and possibly that new Urzatron MUC thing that is starting, but that hasn't made an appearance yet)

1 Oxidize (artifacts)

1 Splinter (I wanted a total of three artifact destructions but I don't think people will be letting me keep a Splinter, it's insane)

My metagame has a lot of green in it. There are a couple T&Ns and several different forms of MGA, MGB, Green Beacon, etc. Really al I have is Explosives, Hibernation, Scrabling Claws, and artifact destruction. But I don't really think that is any where near enough to compete against the Green decks. There are a couple of Ninja decks and this number may grow one or two. And I do not have anything to go against Ninjas. Except maybe artifact destruction (vial, jittes, etc) and possibly bribery (Ink-Eyes). Shackles may be good against it, once I played against ninjas and Shackled an Ink-Eyes. the haze lock would be good as long as my hand isn't disrupted too much. MUC isn't present at all right now, unless the Urza thing pops up, so I don't think that Boseiju and Sylvan Scrying are really needed.
I know some of u may not like the idea of Masumaro. I didn't either at first. But once I tryed it out, it was pretty good and REALLY FUN, but I never played it unless I had Horned Helm. These peices are not hard to get. Gifts helps a lot, plus Fabricate, eternal witness, etc. And if u get both him and Meloku down on the feild with a good amount of mana open and about 5 or 6 cards in hand, it's most likely good game. And with this deck I usaully have a good number of cards in my hand. More playtesting will determine whether or not my idea is actually good.
I'd advise against the (although unique) use of masumaro and horned helm... Meloku should suffice as a finisher. I'd also try to fit plow under in there (while you can) since it is a great card by all means.
I'm no expert on the gifts version of this deck... But when I used to play it a LOOOOOOOONG while back, i used to play with the gifts combo and get a lot of mana and then use rude awakening + echoing truth + x2 eternal witness = good game. If you can get it to resolve, you'll win. Simple as that... infinite mana = goodness when combined with infinite witnesses.
Besides, rude awakening can serve as an unexpected finisher.
Having had a quick scan through of the UG topic i'm surprised to see that no-one has tried playing sakashima the imposter in a UG build. His synergy with eternal witness and (in my build) Solemn Simulacrum as well as to a lesser extent shackles and bribery is extremely nice ! Play witness, get a gy card, copy witness, get anthoer gy card, return sakashima during oppnents eot and copy witness again to get another gy card. Same with copying solmen to get more land drops. In my playtesting, i've maxed out my land base very early in the game as well as had a number of plow under locks happen. If artifacts are bothering you then side in sharman and keep copying as many times as needed to kill atifacts. You can also copy trolls ( apparently ) if a regenerating blocker is needed as well as against MUC. Anyway, here is my build. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.
The Sakashima Idea is good. But if possible, I would just simply splash red for Kiki-Jiki. With Sakashima, in order to copy multiple times, you'd have to pay, what, 6 mana everytime? Kiki can do it at instant speed, also.
But, if you refuse to splash red, Sakashima is a wonderful alternate.

This will put in more of a Beat style curve to your deck.
But, UG has to have some control. In that aspect, You're doing perfect. Maybe switch the Spellbomb for another Truth. But beyond that, good hunting.

But Kiki-Jiki is off color, and not only that, he needs 3 red to play. Sakshima on the other hand is on color, and can be useful early game by even copying an opponent's creature. This makes him a bit more versatile than Kiki since he's not so hard to play.
Like I said, If you can't splash, Sakashima is the best alternate. I realize that he is hard to fit in, but running birds, Elders, and sometimes Kodama's reach can help. But yes, it is difficult. I see where you are coming from. But I have seen it been splashed before, and worked.

The deck is actually based on the red/green beats deck that utilizes kiki but instead i hoped to concentrate on the positives and differences that blue gains over red ... ie shackles, bribrery, hinder and leak. By the way it is 4 mana to play and 4 mana to return but getting enough land to play and replay sakashima isnt too difficult with birds,ste,kodomas and solemn but i did lose twice to an early game bop with sofi so speed can sometimes be a factor. I actually considered crystal shard as an artifact to return sakashima more cheaply but havent tested it yet. Also i wonder what possibilities their are if u do splash red and play kiki as well as sakashima ! .... I have copied an opponents kiki before and suffice to say it was nice !
I'm a little tired right now, so I'll just post a small explaination.
This is a more controlish build than some of the other I've been seeing around here, I run 10 countermagic as opposed to 4-8 and I run a full 4 Echoing Truths. I also run a large ammount of maindeck 1-ofs to take advantage of Gifts.
The versitility of this deck is one of it's greatist strengths. It can play like MUC if it needs to, or (usually against MUC) go beatdown and try to get board position.
Instant Gifts for counters can be fun, and effective. I've also found that I rarely like to Gifts for Witness. I prefer to increase my chances of drawing it by remocving other things from my Library. This can throw my opponents off sometimes and gives my bluffing oppertunities.
Opponent: "What, no Witness? You do run them right?"
Me: *Shrug*
The sideboard holds answers to most of the major archetypes: Naturalize, Hibernation, and EE comes in against MGA. Quash, Boseiju, and Creeping Mold/Naturalize come in against MUC. EE and Naturalize come in against WW/WWE/WrW. Creeping Mold, Quash, and Boseiju come in against T&N. Ect.
Hey, if you're going to run Shackles, you better have the Islands to back up your bark. Take the Forests to about 7 or 8, then fill in the rest with islands. Since this will put you at a loss for green land searchers, replace the Elders with Solemn Simulacrum . Then take out the Reaches for Wayfarer's Baubles.

ok i was wondering what everyone thought of Azusa lost but seeking she goes great with meloku yes she is a 1/2 for 3 but sometimes on 2nd or 3rd turn she works realy well for acceleration exspecialy with kodama's reach she is legendary so i wouldnt run more than 3 but i beleive this card could be viasble to help power out meloku. As for the deck above i don't know about tendo ice bridge i find city of brass worked well here although is rotating out how about the blue/green pain lands since there is no more major tourneys before the release of ninth

I've ran Gifts Control for quite soemtime now. And it's recent failure as of late is really pissing me off. SO I am changing that to UB Reanimator (more then liekly) and I want to return to UG Control simialr to my older deck (the one around Ravager banning). This is my decklist as of now

@psychosickmondo: Where are the witnesses and the Yavi Coasts? Muse seems like a tryable card, although I doubt 4 would be necessary. Also, I would drop either the Magpies or the Serum Visions. You definitely don't need both. I would also finagle some Artifact hate in somewhere in the form of Naturalize or Shamans. Trolls are also a key element, IMO. Possibly a Kodama/North Tree for some heavy beats and Shackles (although they might suck with the Coasts in the deck.) As for the sideboard, drop the swamp (since you have no black cards), drop the Threads of Disloyalty and 1 EE (unless your meta is highly aggro) and find more relevant things such as Jitte hate, and misc. metagame choices.

1st game I ended up losing cause I played Rude awakening and he played echoing decay naming islands and he beat me down the rest of the game
2nd game the guy played a boseiju, who shelters all and then extracted me three turns in a row(Naming meloku, Rude awakening, and plow under) and there was nothing I could do about it and ended up beating me down with kodama, of the north tree and kokusho, the evening star
i need to know how to get past the echoing decays! as far as I'm concerned drawing 3 extractions was just luck!
I also need sideboard help! what other 5 cards should I add to the sideboard!

The Sakashima Idea is good. But if possible, I would just simply splash red for Kiki-Jiki. With Sakashima, in order to copy multiple times, you'd have to pay, what, 6 mana everytime? Kiki can do it at instant speed, also.
But, if you refuse to splash red, Sakashima is a wonderful alternate.

I see that your deck is leaning more towards a Beats build. With that in mind...
-2 Fabricate
+1 Jitte
+1 Sword
-3 Magpies
+1 Witness
+2 Zealot
This will put in more of a Beat style curve to your deck.
But, UG has to have some control. In that aspect, You're doing perfect. Maybe switch the Spellbomb for another Truth. But beyond that, good hunting.

I haven't been playtesting my U/G that much lately because I've been playing Sligh.
Last week and FNM I played Sligh and let a friend borrow U/G. He took first.
Anyway, this has gotten my re-interested in playing U/G, so I thought I'd post my current list and get opinions.

I'm a little tired right now, so I'll just post a small explaination.
This is a more controlish build than some of the other I've been seeing around here, I run 10 countermagic as opposed to 4-8 and I run a full 4 Echoing Truths. I also run a large ammount of maindeck 1-ofs to take advantage of Gifts.
The versitility of this deck is one of it's greatist strengths. It can play like MUC if it needs to, or (usually against MUC) go beatdown and try to get board position.
Instant Gifts for counters can be fun, and effective. I've also found that I rarely like to Gifts for Witness. I prefer to increase my chances of drawing it by remocving other things from my Library. This can throw my opponents off sometimes and gives my bluffing oppertunities.
Opponent: "What, no Witness? You do run them right?"
Me: *Shrug*
The sideboard holds answers to most of the major archetypes: Naturalize, Hibernation, and EE comes in against MGA. Quash, Boseiju, and Creeping Mold/Naturalize come in against MUC. EE and Naturalize come in against WW/WWE/WrW. Creeping Mold, Quash, and Boseiju come in against T&N. Ect.

You don't run EE, SOFI, SOLAS, E-Truth, or Gifts. Wow.
As to the sideboard, I think you should run 3-4 Hibernation, 2-3 EE(if you don't maindeck them), 1-2 Boseiju, and metagame the rest.
I think it's really the maindeck you want to look at though.

Ya i cant afford Sofis and gifts. EE is sideboarded. E-Truth i dont no whay to take out for. and SOLAS is probably sideboarded to.
