I've seen this card discussed a little here and there and I've even tested it myself.
Is it good enough for standard play?
Sometimes you can gain 15+ life. That is if you make it to turn 7 though.
Sometimes it's just a brick that you don't get to.
Perhaps it works with the right curve. There's not a lot of life gain in the format and getting burned out is a big possibility if you want to try to play a longer game. There's Whip of Erebos and Sorin, Solemn Visitor but they rely on you having creatures and attacking which isn't always reliable.
If a truly control oriented deck emerges it is almost certain to be a role-player in it. The cost is the only real downside, but getting to turn 7+ shouldn't be a huge problem with early counters / removal.
A lot of decks simply won't be able to "kill you twice" before you fully control the game. This is one of the biggest issues of the very heavy aggro decks right now, their reach options are amazingly limited if games go long.
The cost is the biggest downside really. Especially for 3 color control decks where your 7th land might be a tap land. Another Issue I have is the 4 Thoughness.
I think it could be good in a Mono White Control/Devotion Deck. Survive, Reset, and stabilize that's the recipe for a control deck. Spot removal like Banishing Light allows you to survive until a mass sweep card like End Hostilities resets the board. Creature like Resolute Archangel can Stabilize your life until you play a finisher like Elspeth, Sun's Champion.
