In addition to my BUG Walkers deck, which I will undoubtedly play in the upcoming standard, I have been exploring a BUG Dredge midrange variant that is looking a little promising. While we are still looking for the haymakers and role-players of the set to show themselves, I believe speculating on whether this deck can reach potential Tier 2 or 1 status is not out of the question. Let's look over our enablers, shall we?
Satyr Wayfinder - This card is definitely going to be a staple of this deck, should it become a thing. It was a definite center piece of the budget B/G Dredge deck in the past standard season and does a lot of things we want early. It dumps stuff into the yard, it blocks an attacker, and it is a creature...which triggers our fearless leader if it gets dumped.
Commune with the Gods - Similar to Wayfinder. Yet, instead of fixing our colors it gets us gas. This card seems especially good at turning a terrible hand into something with pressure. Filter filter filter.
Nyx Weaver - A great enabler as well. Blocks okay, sticks around, and has a relevant ability if necessary.
Pharika, God of Affliction - An easy include as a 1 or 2 in the deck. This card will stonewall midrange strategies and help us make use of our graveyard as a true resource. In a standard where there is little casting from the graveyard (flashback or retrace), we really need as many ways to get value out of the yard as possible.
Soltai Charm - Removal in two different ways, and card filtering. Due to cost, probably a 2 or 3 of. Never a dead card though, which is good.
Soltai Ascendency - Possibly too slow against some decks. Almost surely too slow against aggro. However, this card seems like it will generate a lot of long-game advantage. Knowing your draws also seems ideal.
Sidisi, Brood Tyrant - Solid beater with a lot of potential upside. She is difficult to cast, but there is a lot of power in making creatures off of each dredge. Seems wrong not to play at least 2.
Nighthowler - Efficient attacker, can be bestowed to avoid 2 for 1s, and it has a full art promo? Sign me up!
Nemesis of Mortals - Seems like an under-costed beater in our deck. Not bad at all. Probably run 3?
Soul of Innistrad - Probably too slow for what we want to do, but the vast amount of recursion here shouldn't be ignored. Could make it into the list as a 1 or 2 of.
Strength from the Fallen - Possibly win-more, but potentially very strong if we get a good attacker with trample for this format.
Whip of Erebos - Potentially good utility. Lifelink is sweet against aggressive decks. Gets found by Commune. 1 or 2 of?
So far the other spoiled cards just seem a little too slow/difficult to cast. I could see running one Empty the Pits, but it is probably just better to generate cumulative advantage. The Vizier guy definitely falls into the category of too slow/fragile though.
Based off of what we have, I would probably run the following list...
The deck would probably run Jace and Ashiok sideboard for the more control-heavy matches, as well as some counterspells. Two or three more removal spells, probably including some drown in sorrow would be in the board for aggressive decks. Aggressive decks also fold to a resolved Whip with any creatures on the board. Makes for good attacks and blocks against them. Finally, I think we'd top the sideboard off with the other two Thoughtseizes, just because they seem very good in the upcoming slower meta.
this, minus nighthowler, is a nonbo wit the rest of the deck. nemesis it's ok because you need stuff to be in the yard just when you cast it/activate it. for nighthowler to be relevant you want stuff to stay in the yard all the time.
don't forget a couple of empty the pits!
plus you're playing blue for sidsi and the other sultai's stuff, so how about a couple of jace, the living guildpact (his +1 is very useful) and possibly a couple of counters too.

How is Nighthowler a nonbo? Its exactly what this kind of deck wants. You have to remember when you delve you can remove instances, sorcerys, and lands. It doesnt have to be creatures. Most of the time he is going to be a 3cmc 5/5 at least.

This archetype is pretty interesting to me. I think it's a little foolish to rush to make decklists with 2/3 of the set remaining, but this is the decklist I've come up with so far:
I don't feel like I need to defend the deck, it's just a concept at this point, but I like the way it looks. I'm going to be proxying up this list (or something very similar) and trying this out. It looks like a ton of fun to me, but I have a problem with prioritizing fun over effectiveness, so we'll see
Edit: real quick, Kruphix is my wildcard, I think he could come in handy with Empty the Pits by allowing you to save up mana and dump a ton once you are able to cast it to guarantee a lethal amount of zombies.
Honestly, with a delve deck I feel the 'all-in' approach makes you far more vulnerable to graveyard hate. My opinion, but I would go for a more control-midrange, aiming to stall the game out and drawing extra cards to discard before dropping a cheap delve demon and protecting it the rest of the 2-4 turns to win.
@Take Your Shoes Off:
Exactly my point. I think Nighthowler is awesome for the deck.
@Doc.Brown:
If only! If he cared about every card in the yard, he'd be gigantic.
@Thoras:
Very cool list. The only thing that I would stray from is In Garruk's Wake. Cool card, but I think it's way too slow for the meta.
@CloudHeadedAmigo:
I'm not big on Bitter Revelation or Kruphix's Insight. They are at least a full turn slower than my other yard-dump options and neither of them affect the board state. If I'm going to effectively do nothing for a turn, it needs to be as early as possible. Heck, Bitter Revelation even costs us life?
See the Unwritten has potential as a top end, but I don't think we need it. Same with the Vizier. I don't think it's awful, just too slow for mainboard. Though it is great against the Tormod's Crypt out of the sideboard.
As of right now there is only one hate card that we know of in the format, Tormod's Crypt. I'll take my chances that this deck is going to sit in the Tier 2/Rogue Deck category, which means that grave-hate will not be a huge problem. Even if it becomes one, I'm sure siding in a number of negates and such will have us in an okay position.
Nighthowler is what holds this deck together. Sadisi's stats are pretty weak for her cost. Bestow a Nighthowler and even 2 guys in the yard will make her a respectable threat. She can snowball out of control from there. Herald of Torment is also good for this job.
Nix Weaver is a 4 of no questions asked. Holds the ground vs aggro decks, is a sell mill engine, also a sort of tutor effect.
Chord of calling is so SICK in this deck. I've had some games where I went Sadisi get 2 zombies > bestow and attack getting 1-3 more then Chording for hornet queen.
Just be aware that anger of the gods just wrecks you. Just about everything you have dies to it and it will exile not feeding your graveyard.
I'm experimenting with a constellation sideboard. When they do bring in graveyard hate you can side into your constellation deck and blank all their hate cards.
Tormod's crypt, anafenza, agent of Erebos, Pharika you get the point. I think a resilient deck will play more effectively if agent and Pharika see more play.
Hi I am more or less completely new as a poster on this forum but I've been lurking for a while! Here is my first draft of post-rotation BUG dredge :). My main concern is that the deathdealer might be too mana offensive and is lacking in the trample department of our dearly will-be-departed Lotleth troll. But this guy might be relevant for mid to lategame. I was more or less inspired by the deck Craig Wescoe posted on tcgplayer and the current existing G/B dredge decks.
Brewing with this. I'm looking to be as control-ish as possible, but a card like Sidisi and Empty the Pits pushes the deck inevitably to being a little dredge-ish.
I think the list that I will be working on will start like this:
4 Commune with Gods
4 Satyr Wayfinder
4 Courser Kruphix
4 Sylvan Caryatid
4 Night Howler
4 Nemesis of Mortals
4 Heros Downfall
2 Sulai Charm
2 Sidisi, Brood Tyrant
2 Empty the Pits
The problem with Delve is that you dont want too many delve spells otherwise they dont work well together. Just a thought. This is a starting point for me. Mostly a core for a list. Obviously there is no way in making a full list yet but I like where its going.
What do you guys think>?
The card pool and mechanics should enable quite a bit of customization within the colors. if this thread is any indication we should at least see a few good constellation, midrange, and delve lists. I posted this list in the Sidisi discussion thread, as I want it to be my base line archetype for T2:
In my experience with B/G Constellation in THS Block, I got to harness some powerful interactions in a consistent fashion, which leads me to a desire to utilize the archetype for the new Standard.
This build is definitely centered around enchantments, which leaves little room for Delve interactions (like Rakshasa Deathdealer) or vanilla beaters (like Nemesis of Mortals). The main win conditions are Nighthowler and Strength from the Fallen. The later the game goes, the more power the two cards will have. Part of what makes it so consistent are cards like Kruphix's Insight and Commune with the Gods, which find the win conditions while simultaneously powering them up (even Nyx Weaver will be able to Regrowth a milled one in a pinch). With 4 Satyr Wayfinders, it is also very hard to miss land drops.
There is a Nylea in the main board to help push boosted creatures through clogged boards, but it's not terribly important to the deck's function. Doomwake Giant represents a large amount of beef on the battlefield and is also very adept at helping you navigate stuffy board states. It matches up insanely well versus Master of Waves and Elspeth.
There are also two Whip of Erebos, as the lifelink is quite invaluable when your guys get so large, and if you have a Strength on the battlefield it becomes a one-two punch interaction of grow-my-guy and grow-my-life-total. Also of importance is the ability to whip Nighthowlers or enchantment creatures (for more Strength triggers) back into play.
Sidisi is the most exciting new card, because of its ability to single-handedly add power to the battlefield, its contributions to the graveyard, and its interaction with Weaver/Commune/Insight/Wayfinder. Every self-mill instance is likely to net a 2/2 in the process. It won't trigger Constellation or get grabbed by Kruphix's Insight, but it has so much power regardless. I would have a hard time believing any BUG build in new Standard won't include a couple Sidisi.
The rest of the list is rounded out with some card advantage enchantments in Courser and Eidolon, which I suspect will be the first cuts if better options become available. Courser, in addition to being insanely strong by itself, offers some interesting synergy with mill cards, giving you a little concrete information; it also has a little synergy with fetch lands, allowing you to change the top of your library if warranted. Brain Maggot also isn't the most important card to the deck, though its card types give it a lot more weight than a simple Thoughtseize.
The deck is very good against aggro, with good blockers and a decent amount of life gain. Whip of Erebos is the best card against fast lists, and having one alongside a Strength is often unbeatable. And with so much inevitability and a continuous stream of resources, it matches up very well against control. Granted, these assumptions come from testing against THS block decks, but there's currently no reason to believe the matchups aren't going to play out similarly post-rotation.
CorporateNoun, I'm running regular constellation right now, and you need more eidolon of blossoms over commune and insight. Having 2 blossoms out will lead to WAY more cards in the yard from discarding at the end of your turn, and bringing in Boon Satyrs lets you flash-chump fatties and draw.
I've tested the deck with a variety of proxies, and over time I've shifted away from the Theros dredge cards. The problem with the deck is landing early threats, and you do yourself no favors playing a Wayfinder or Commune T2. Basically, I've found that I struggle to stabilize but once I do it is hard to beat. The engine of Sidisi, Nyx Weaver, and Sultai Ascendancy is very good at closing out games or at least stalling for a massive Empty the Pits.
I rarely find myself wishing I had a Wayfinder or Commune, as I've found that those three above are far more effective at filling a graveyard and actually making use of it. I currently run am up to two Murderous Cuts and an Empty the Pit, and I think I'm going to test adding more Cuts and maybe Necropolis Fiend. Unfortunately, that conflicts with Nighthowler. I've think that a choice needs to be made between winning with large vanilla beaters (Constellation/Theros Dredge) and winning with tokens and Delve (KTK). I've tried going the KTK route, and the deck looks entirely different even though I haven't tuned it at all.
Needs some fine-tuning, but the key here is that we have lots of creatures. This serves two purposes: one being to keep us aggressive, and the second being to maximise creature cards in the graveyard, as most of our business is looking for creatures in the graveyard. Most of our lands come in untapped, and most produce black/green, our main colors. Polluted Delta will usually find a Swamp early, but can get us blue mana for a Sidisi. And yes, I'm running four of her. She's legendary, but she's also the most powerful card in the deck and we only need one to take over the game.

I applaud for playing 4 Sidisi, I definitely think it's the right call. I would cut down on the self mill though. Satyr Wayfinder and even Nyx Weaver seem way too slow for me. My guess is your opponents are more than happy to kill your creatures anyway so maybe it's not even required to play self mill anyway. Nighthowler and potentially Strength from the fallen might work without any extra mill.
Satyr Wayfinder and Nyx Weaver stay because they're creatures in their own right in addition to dredging. I think a crucial part of the strategy is to get plenty of dudes both on the table and in the yard to get max value. But I'll see how it goes in testing.

I also felt the same way. I want my board to be proactive while also milling myself. Wayfinder and the spells do none of these things.
