The deck was a Block stud and Craig Wescoe won a pro tour with it. Obviously not the same list but with the core of the deck and it evolved from there.
However, there's always been GW decks running around long before this. I mean, some of my favorite decks ran Armadillo Cloak, Daybreak Coronet, and others. So, I have a modern, pauper, and standard auras deck. And I look at the new set and thing to myself about the implications. The new set doesn't do much for me. And I believe I may take a break from standard for a while. I prefer EDH and Modern anyways.
Been lurking here for well over a year, and playing magic for only about a year and a half now, and finally decided to make a post. Anyways, I was a selesnya player through rtr-theros standard, playing aggro and midrange, and while nearly half this archetype rotates this Friday I plan to continue on these fundamentals and create a GWx aggro deck, most likely Splashing in black and playing lots of gold cards. Still at work currently, I'll be posting a thurough, though terribly edited deck list/strategy. I'll have to learn all the forum tools to clean it up as I go, but I hope to get some input and make this deck competitive.
Today was a sad day for me ........ I still don't know what I want to play =/ The current version of Abzan doesn't seem in the spirit of this deck at all; its more grindy and alot slower, I've tried making a Green/White deck work but it's still probably not as powerful as I want it to be. With all the removal floating around (i don't care what anyone say's tere seems to be MORE general board sweepers being played (Bile Blight, Anger, Drown in Sorrow, Aetherspouts,) and it seems like every deck is playing either 4 copies of Hero's downfall, or Banishing light.
I would try a green white heroic deck, but Thoughtseize destroy's that every turn; I guess I'll have to wait for the pro tour to see if someone comes up with something; let me know if you guys have any ideas.
oh btw we had a small turnout at my fnm and I won with a green/white deck I threw together with Brimaz's, Boon satyr's, and Elspeth lol; it wasn't competitive at all (the event) because no one really had a "tier 1" type deck; and that green white deck doesn't have the power it needs.
I think if GW Aggro is to transition at all, it has to go to Abzan colors for removal, Seige Rhino, and Anafenza. Ana can buff up your other creatures and you can remove things in the way of your lions. You might have to play Mystic and Caryatid to fill in holes and up your curve to 5-6 for Mentor of Heroes and maybe even Elspeth and/or Garruk. I don't really know. But Anafenza seems strong.
