4 maindeck Masticore is too much. He is a much better SB card imo, as he just gets hated on by a lot of decks, people will make him a priority for removal and bring in artifact hate, but if you bring him in game 2, they won't expect it. Also, your creature base is far too small to run him. You should have at least 18-20 other creatures besides him to make him truly effective.
Yeah, so far he doesn't stay on longer than 2 turns as I just let him die out. Seems like Kargan and possible 2 main deck Inferno Titans is the way to go to ensure late game board presence.
Anyone ever play around with comet storm? At least as SB in against aggro?

I have 2 Masticores in the SB, and have definitely had problems feeding him with dead dudes before. I only run 16 creatures main, plus 6 more in the SB (Manic Vandals too), so I should probably consider siding in as many relevant creatures as possible with the Masticore, or ditching him for something else.
Comet Storm and Inferno Titan are too expensive for this version of RDW. They fit nicely into the Big Red list that's starting to surface, but you won't get enough value of them in the faster list (if you can cast them at all). Kargan is a great option if you want to improve your late game a bit, but probably only as a 2 of. We shouldn't have that much trouble with Aggro decks, except maybe Boros when they're on Kor Firewalker.

I do not know how useful Kargan is going to be in the MD. As pointed out earlier, our great matcuhp, CawBlade, is evolving into having more Condemn/Oust MD. Those cards hurt creature builds immensely. I have taken out Geopedes, as he has been under performing recently, in favor of more burn. He just doesn't push the damage early like he did when they were running wraths.
I think he could be in the SB, but I would shy against having him in the MD for now.
that said
@CawBlade trolls posting here- do not even pretend like you have a great match up against us. Sure on paper you may have better percentages. Our deck is still threat dense and capable of pushing SO MUCH DAMAGE in a turn. One mistake from you and you are dead (assuming your RDW opponent knows what they are doing). I have still been consistently beating CawBlade players post-oust/condemn evolution, IRL and on MODO. I can not tell you whether they were good pilots or not, but what I can say is that the games are close. Your recent additions make you less suceptible to dying to us, but not by much and it assumes you make all the correct plays all the time.
Your deck has loads of options. Good for you. Options are great when you can see the path that each decision takes you on. Can you honestly say that you can predict what is going to happen every time with so many options? What that means to me though is there is more opportunity for you to make a mistake. RDW capitalizes on those mistakes.
Also, MatsT, you asked how many Ousts or Condemns I typically faced in the CawBlade matchup. I think most of the lists I saw had between 4-6 maindeck, and another couple in the SB. Here is Devyn March's list, which gave me my first loss of the day:
They slow you down, and if we draw a creature-light hand those cards can definitely win them the game, but I sided out my Geopedes in favor of the Manic Vandals and Masticores. Doing so makes Oust and Condemn less effective, since most of your guys can still get damage in anyway, and Ousting Vandal would be hilarious. Also, Ousting Goblin Guide is not the best play for them since you just get it back 2 turns later.
I did notice that Dan Jordan's list favored more counterspells for the mirror, over Oust and Condemn. There is a lonely Condemn in his SB, which I'm presuming might actually be more for Gideon tricks than anything else.

What does your list look like? And how do you SB against your MU's?
Does anyone think that Ken Adams' Big Red variation is worth it? Or even good? I've seen a couple people refer to it as "Red Control" with some slight tweaks to it, and with cards like Volt Charge on the way it seems like a possibly legitimate option.
This deck destroys UW Cawblade, UB control, Valakut, Ramp variants and Naya.
Star here is Shrine of Burning Rage. In games played, it shoots for, on average 8 damage, used as finisher most of the time. It is also great against big threats like Kor Firewalker and Planeswalkers.

Game 1's plan is just to rush down, Scamp is usually used by me just to deal 4 damage in total.
1 mana for 4 or 5 damage is efficient.
My sideboard plan usually consists of siding them out for answers to cards. I usually side in Crushes and Scrapmelter against equipment and artifact decks.
Ruinblaster against decks with lots of nonbasics.
An extra shrine + Koth against control decks.
I usually side out Geopedes as well, but it really depends, Geopede isnt as good against control, for example.
Tunnel Ignus against ramp decks.

Personally, I've found Oxidda Scrapmelter just isn't as good as Manic Vandal when you have Hero of Oxid Ridge and Koth of the Hammer in the 4 mana slot on your curve. Scamp seems like it's decent, haven't bothered to test it yet. I do know the shrine, from testing, is eh. Do you have any success with the Tunnel Ignus, because, to be honest, I've found him to be meh at best so far.

You are correct. Changed 1 Scrapmelter for Manic Vandal.
I still prefer Crush to Manic Vandal, because of tactical uses due to Instant speed and 1 mana, very crucial.
Also, I have taken out 4 Tunnel Ignus for 2 Bonehoards and 2 Kargan Dragonlord to try it out.
Taken out 1 maindeck Geopede for 1 Kargan Dragonlord as well.
Geopede isnt exactly a card I want to see multiples of, and Kargan Dragonlord is mana-intensive, not exactly a card I want to see early either.

My only issue with crush is the fact that you can't take out a Tezzed 5/5 artifact with it. Or a Wurmcoil Engine. I'm surprised to see RDW running Bonehoard, but it's probably pretty decent in any aggro or versus Black match up. As someone basically playing the same list as Ryan Miller in terms of a creature base, I will say 2 maindeck Kargan Dragonlord is great. The whole point of him is only to level early if it's empty mana that you can't use for anything else such as burn or more creatures as it is the most efficient way to use said mana. You don't really want to pump him up until late game when you don't have much else other than burn to do. What do you mean don't want to see multiples of Plated Geopede? Laying down a fetch with two of those bad boys out and than activating a Dread Statuary with it is hard hitting to say the least. It's a great card, indispensable.

Game 1: Narrowly lost. Got him to one life and he managed to snake away somehow, I don't really remember how, and then he got a Frost Titan out and tapped down my lands. (I only had 3 lands the entire game...)
Boarded out a couple Spikeshot Elders, a couple Ember Haulers and a couple Forked Bolts to board in 3 Tumble Magnets and 3 Mark of Mutiny.
Game 2: Won very easily. Burned away his Cobras early and he could never get out anything substantial. He got a Baloth out but it died to a Koth'd mountain.
Game 3: Again, very narrowly lost. Got him down to 2 life and he pulled out a Wurmcoil. I didn't have Vandals boarded in, and burned the first Wurmcoil down only for him to drop a second one. After he was back up to 5 life with another Wurmcoil on the board (and me without a hand), I scooped and he showed me a third Wurmcoil in hand.
Record: 0-1-0 (1-2-0) :: I'm ranked 22nd at this point.
________________________
* * Round 2 - UW Caw-Blade * *
Game 1: Lost rather frustratingly. Resolved a Koth only to have him effectively do nothing at all.
Boarded out a Spikeshot Elder, a couple Ember Haulers and 3 Forked Bolts to board in 4 Manic Vandals and 3 Perilous Myr.
Game 2: He stuck a turn 2 Kor Firewalker and started gaining lots of life. I resolved and fully pumped a Kargan Dragonlord and blow up his Baneslayer, 2 birds and a Mystic, but I'm low enough that he can swing for lethal with the damn Firewalker.
Record: 0-2-0 (1-4-0) :: I'm ranked 23rd at this point.
________________________
* * Round 3 - Pyromancer Ascension * *
Game 1: Won unbelievably easy. His deck wasn't that good, even for a Pyromancer deck. He stalled me very briefly with some burn and counters, but he never even got his Ascension up to 2 counters. He didn't get a single damage onto me.
Boarded out nothing, since I both had nothing against this archetype and I had no reason to.
Game 2: See game 1.
Record: 1-2-0 (3-4-0) :: I'm ranked 18th at this point.
________________________
* * Round 4 - Red Deck Wins * *
Game 1: Won very easily. Once I saw that he was running RDW, I quickly adapted to be the control mirror and burned away whatever he put down. I didn't know if he was running Goblins or Koth (or both I guess) though. He made some misplays and wasted some cards, so I won pretty easily when I ultimate'd Koth (and he was still alive lol).
Boarded out nothing, since I both had nothing against this archetype and I had no reason to.
Game 2: See game 1. Nothing really changed except I played more aggressively after seeing more of his deck (and that he didn't board anything). He never saw a Koth (though claimed to indeed run them) and I lit him up fairly quickly.
Record: 2-2-0 (5-4-0) :: I'm ranked 14th at this point.
________________________
* * Round 5 - UW Caw-Blade * *
Game 1: It was a rough match, and I ended up getting him to 2 life and he swung for lethal.
Boarded out a lot of cards, and boarded in 4 Manic Vandals, 3 Tumble Magnets, 2 Phyrexian Revokers, and 3 Perilous Myrs. Seriously.
Game 2: This game was much like game 1, except I kept a hand with 2 Vandals in it, waiting for him to drop Mortarpods and Swords. I resolved a Koth and ended up winning it with a Guide, Hauler, and a Mountain swinging for lethal.
Game 3: Spikeshot Elder is my MVP. He got in there for 9 damage this game, between swinging and pinging. I Manic Vandal'd a Mortarpod on my turn 3. He played a turn 3 sword and proceeded to not draw the mana he needed and held back any creatures for fear of it getting pinged with Elder before it could do anything. I win.
Record: 3-2-0 (7-5-0) :: I'm ranked 8th at this point.
________________________
* * TOP 8: Round 6 - UB Tezzeret/Infect * *
Game 1: It was a rough match, and I ended up being negligent and forgetting that he can Tumble Magnet my Koth'd mountain that I was holding back for mana to bolt his Tezz'd Inkmoth. He knocked me out pretty quickly with infect damage even after I killed the Inkmoth, sac'ing artifacts with Throne of Geth to prolifierate, and double Virulent Wounding my Guide for 2 poison counters.
Boarded out a lot of cards, and boarded in 4 Manic Vandals, 3 Tumble Magnets, and 2 Phyrexian Revokers.
Game 2: I was much better prepared this time for his gameplan, Vandal'd artifacts as he played them. I kept a hand with 2 Vandals. Resolved a Koth and the conjunction of him and burn was able to get a fairly clean win in there.
Game 3: Burned him to death, Vandal'd any artifact creatures he put out. He sac'd a Necropede with Throne of Geth to kill my Guide and hung around for much longer than I liked by Ultimating Tezzeret with only 2 artifacts on the field. Luckily I had enough burn to seal it away.
Record: 4-2-0 (9-6-0) :: I'm ranked 4th at this point.
________________________
* * TOP 4: Round 7 - Mono Green Elves * *
Game 1: It was a rough match, I got him down to 1 life and he pulled up 2 Vengevines and swung for exactly lethal. He flips my top card and breathes a sigh of relief as it's a Spikeshot that would've won me the game.
I didn't really have anything to board in against elves, so I took out an Elder, Ember Hauler, and Arc Trail for 3 Tumble Magnets.
Game 2: Worst game ever. P. U. N. T. He boarded in damn near his entire sideboard, which is weird since I was the only red deck in top 8, and only 2 other people were there playing red. He starts the game with a Leyline of Vitality, which I am not accustomed to playing with at all and end up throwing burns away because I don't realize the toughness of all his dudes is +1. A misplayed Forked Bolt on turn 1 leads to a turn 3 Leyline number two and another misplayed burn on my part when I tried to Staggershock a 1/1 that had +0/+2 from retarded Leylines. Horribly played on my part. Horribly.
Cards that underperformed for me: Kargan Dragonlord, Phyrexian Revoker & Forked Bolt. I expected much more use out of Forked Bolts, especially with over half of the field playing Caw-Blade, but they were only useful a handful of times. I was almost never happy to see Kargans in my hand. Revokers were only sided in once for me, and I didn't see any, which is good, because they'd have been completely useless.
Changes I would make (and have made) now: Throw in 4 Arid Mesa and rearrange the burn package to remove 3 Forked Bolt and include 4 Searing Blazes. Remove Revokers from the sideboard and add in the 2 left over burn spells from the maindeck.
I can't wait to rematch against that Elves deck in tomorrow's local tournament. God that was an embarassing loss.
Immolating Souleater is the only iffy one for me, but he can get around all the prot red we're seeing. Also, his effect isn't half bad with Assault Strobe. Though, I think to get the full effect I'd be better off with Kargan Dragonlord, Furnace Scamp, or Ember Hauler. Souleater might be a better sideboard choice?
So you are suggesting a subpar 2 mana for a 1/1 creature that pumps in the worse possible way?
No thanks.
Also, Shrine of Burning Rage is much better. Testing has revealed as much. It defeats Kor Firewalker and huge creatures as well, and can shoot for upwards of average 8 damage.
I rather run Dismember to deal with annoying creatures as well.
Immolating Souleater isnt worth playing. He will force you to over extend and you lose all your life for 1 piece of removal.
Shrine seems great G1, but G2 most people will bring in artifact hate. Especially if they lose to it the 1st game.
@Tylert_fr
Ive won 2 games off it fireballing to the head, but ive only cast it once more on a creature. Im going to side them back out for the Staggershock and Burst Lightning I cut for them.

* * Round 1 - BUG * *
Record: 0-1-0 (1-2-0) :: I'm ranked 22nd at this point.

* * Round 2 - UW Caw-Blade * *
Record: 0-2-0 (1-4-0) :: I'm ranked 23rd at this point.

* * Round 3 - Pyromancer Ascension * *
Record: 1-2-0 (3-4-0) :: I'm ranked 18th at this point.

* * Round 4 - Red Deck Wins * *
Record: 2-2-0 (5-4-0) :: I'm ranked 14th at this point.

* * Round 5 - UW Caw-Blade * *
I win.
Record: 3-2-0 (7-5-0) :: I'm ranked 8th at this point.

* * TOP 8: Round 6 - UB Tezzeret/Infect * *
Record: 4-2-0 (9-6-0) :: I'm ranked 4th at this point.

* * TOP 4: Round 7 - Mono Green Elves * *
Horribly.
Record: 4-3-0 (9-8-0) :: Ranked 4th.

Spells:
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Searing Blaze
3 Staggershock
4 Assault Strobe
2 Forked Bolt
4 Koth of the Hammer
Lands: 23
4 Arid Mesa
4 Scalding Tarn
3 Teetering Peaks
1 Smoldering Spires
11 Mountain
3 Mark of Mutiny
4 Manic Vandal
4 Tumble Magnet
This is probably what I'm going to play nowadays.
No thanks.
Also, Shrine of Burning Rage is much better. Testing has revealed as much. It defeats Kor Firewalker and huge creatures as well, and can shoot for upwards of average 8 damage.
I rather run Dismember to deal with annoying creatures as well.
Shrine seems great G1, but G2 most people will bring in artifact hate. Especially if they lose to it the 1st game.
@Tylert_fr
Ive won 2 games off it fireballing to the head, but ive only cast it once more on a creature. Im going to side them back out for the Staggershock and Burst Lightning I cut for them.

I am in love with shrine. It is so good in this deck. Especially with staggershock and such. It has won me a lot of games just being in there. Definitely a great 2 drop for this deck.
