The deck is obviously not competitive as it sits, although it isn't too bad for the kitchen table and it curves fairly well. The main issue is that CMC's are just too high in the deck, and it seems like I could do a lot more with the Red component.
If you can go
T1 Duress/Inq/Borderpost/LC Reaches
T2 Gatekeeper/Prism
T3 Lich
T4 Percy
etc...
But that can be said about most decks. No Sideboard because it is obviously not ready for tournament play. I guess I am posting here because I would like the darn Lich to be at least FNM worthy. Thoughts?
In summation.....Star Trek wins a prolonged naval battle against superior, yet less technologically advanced, numbers, with Picard leading the assault, while Kirk takes your soul by laying out Solo and probably his manservant Chewy as well, before impregnating and ditching your Princess.
By the way, I did alternately consider going B(u) with the equivalent Black/Blue land options. That was even worse than this deck, but if you think that has a chance to be good, let me hear your thoughts. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

sadly this will never stick... do to path, condemn, consuming vapors, Gate keeper, hexmage, and a couple other standard staples your lich is usless. But if they print lighting greaves as a rare in scars.....*hint hint wizards*
Now, now. Dies to removal is not an acceptable argument. Especially when the creature I am building around is indestructible. I do understand the argument though.

You might want to consider whisper silk cloak instead of the prism...shroud unblockable on a 5/5 idestructible is pretty good. but then again you might want to just consider scraping the red altogether with only 4 red cards in the deck. Then you can scrap the lava claws, dragonskulls and the borderposts to play better cards like sorin, natuko husk, sign in blood and Everflowing chalice.

gatekeeper, hexmage, consuming vapors, and condemn are not standard staples currently. consuming vapors doesn't even guarantee a kill on it, and path is rotating out. so i disagree with your argument on lich being useless because of some black cards that nobody plays and the one removal that kills everything and rotates soon and some removal that isn't really in any decks yet and is situational

(Hexmage, Path, and o-ring are all standard staples ) Sarkan the mad, brittle efiggy, malestrom pulse, bounce, sac, artifact removal. He almost easier to kill than most creatures if they use artifact removal and then he is a two for one in your opponents favor. I will Naturalize your basilisk collar after you swing on turn 4 with a 5/5 and nothing to show for turn 1,2,and 3.
umm, sarkhan gives you a dragon, bounce is not removal, sac already went over, artifact removal is not maindeck and not many sideboards. and no he isnt not easier to kill. oring and path already kill everything, idk why dying to removal that kills everything else is so bad. nobody plays hexmage except black decks, and black is such a small portion of the meta it cannot be considered a staple. oring and path are both rotating and they already kill everything, so it isn't "useless" cause they kill it.
Bounce is removal if you bounce the artifact with the counter. If you're going to run two colors, at least have more spells that utilize your off-color.
@Luminus...
Thank you for a constructive suggestion. In case you didn't notice, Sarkhan is a sac outlet for Percy. Bit Blast is definitely a questionable card, so I do agree with that. 4x Terminate is a great call.

I would definitely go with blue. There's just so much exile stuff that you should want some counterspells in there somewhere to protect your Liches and Persecutors.
I'd definitely stick in some kathari bomber and some bramblesnaps and splash a little green, first. maybe even akoum refuge or Jwar Isle if you're into that sort of thing. Then throw in some Rapacious ones, maybe some bloodbraids. maybe even www.dragcave.net
I was considering removing some artifacts for more creatures and terminates, but I never got around to properly testing this out. Dark Tutelage works wonders here because nothing costs more than 3. It also has great synergy with Crystal Ball.

Why not run Basilisk Collar? Deathtouch and lifelink on a 5/5 who can't be destroyed is devastating, especially since Lich has no natural evasion capabilities.
Crystal Ball is a must, especially since you're already suing Dark Tutelage. As awesome as Sword of Vengeance is (I play it MBC despite some naysayers), 4 equipment is not what you want here. You need to be able to 1) control your draws for Tutelage and 2) filter your draws so you're not drawing blanks and 3) it's another artifact for Phyl.
Sarkhan should go too. Without him you have 12! outs to Persecutor. I've found that I have very little problem getting rid of Percy with only 9 ways to kill him, and two of those are Corrupt. I would put in two Blightning or Lightning Bolts.
Nantuko Shade is infinitely better maindeck for aggro than Hexmage. I would definitely put 2 more Shades in and move 2 Hexmages to the board.
That's the way I'll go if Phylactery Lich.
I rather to wait for some Darksteel Ingot functional reprint or something like... meanwhile, i'll keep my liches from people's hands.
Fling is fairly amazing. 17 Damage swing with Lich/Demon/Fling the demon.
Chalice is good because you play it for free on turn 3.
Control is lame matchup because you have to work around oring/into the roil/jace/artifact destruction, its very boring but lich owns if you play him right.
I feel that the lich is better suited in a control deck or control aggro (which im trying to build), the loss is to great if someone simply bounces your artifact. Loose board/tempo/card advantage from a single into the roil.
Given up magic because a)its a waste of money b)it sucks the joy out of life c)im doing more interesting things than tapping pieces of plastic that have no intrinsic value.
I encourage you to do the same. Instead of FNM try Friday Night Something Spontaneous. Instead of thousands of hours and dollars on plastic imagine it with a significant other or friends sharing something meaningful. I randomly typed a new password, so bon voyage itches i encourage you to follow suit! Cheers

I think Blue/Black is far better. I just built a list; will post later when I'm not so tired. Creeping Tar Pit is awesome.

Isn't it rather risky to play 3 artifacts with 4 liches? I mean you're basically more likely to have a lich than a chalice.
In progress, but that's my list so far. Every land produces black mana. The 8 that come into play tapped have the Amulet of Vigor to help out.
Sideboard: Not sure, but can sideboard 4 Mana leak for combo matchups, Vampire Hexmage for opposing Lich or Planeswalker decks. Side out the Doom blades against mono-black matchups.
Some interesting things in it worth discussing: blue "splash" for Tar-pit (supported by other CTPs as well as Prism and Borderpost); MD Relic of Progenitus (so good against Sun Titan, Unearth guys and VVine/Ghast). I'm not sure if it's cool for me to post the list here as it's from a premium article.
In general, though, these are my own thoughts on the deck:
-You really need to run 4 Persecutors. Lich is awesome but AP ends games quickly. If you have budget constraints, I think Bloodwitch is slightly more economical (rare, not mythic--plus she was a theme deck foil) but, trust me, I've won three tournaments (one with 40+players) via AP and he fits right in to this deck.
-Most of the lists here are running too few artifacts. I think 12-14 is the sweet spot. I like things like borderposts/Chalices as well as equipment. Chapin's inclussion of Prism is spot on, as is the inclussion of Relic as both cantrip. It is for this reason that I think that Crystal Ball may not be needed here, certainly not as a 2-of.
-I've loved Nantuko Shade since he was printed but I really don't think he needs to be in this deck. Maybe, if you run Consume the Meek and a couple or three Swords of Vengeance, he'd be okay, but I think AP and PL are the correct choices of finishers.
-I'm not willing to splash white because it's an enemy color but I think it's worth some exploring, if only for Stoneforge Mystic. Think Dead Guy Ale, Standard-style. Blue makes sense as a splash but I find red way underwhelming. Fling is cute but I'd rather have Consuming Vapors as a way to get rid of Persecutor and things like Duress and Inquisiton are superior to Burn.
-Also, there is a Bw Lich thread as well? I'm pretty sure that all Lich threads should be consolodated.

Post the list, theres no prohibition for such things. its not like everybody is prohibited to play magic using the list.
