Is anyone still playing the Sultai Energy package with Hadana's climb. I've been testing it out against B/r and Mono-Green and it still seems pretty decent. It's nice not to lose your mana dorks to a Goblin Chainwhirler. Hydra's still generally are hard for them to remove. Opens up the option to run The Scarab God in the side if wanted.
I hate to say it but after 2 years, Im getting off the snek train. I think it is so ill-poised to r/b and even mono red is more challenging. I'm moving to a b/w variant and wont look back.
At my LGS, nobody is rude enough to play Chainwhirler, but I know I will have to beat it at the store championship or a PPTQ. I don't like playing Llanowar Elves against Chainwhirlers and I don't like playing Constrictors against Soul-Scar Mage.
Hadana's Climb looks like a combo strategy to me. I think it should be okay, but I want to grind, not take my chances on a combo.
So I am on the all-in explore package without Constrictors like the list I posted above (but no Llanowar Elves). I am still trying to figure out whether to splash U, work in W or just go straight GB.
Which reminds me. This thread is not getting a ton of traffic. How do people feel about this thread moving to GBx Midrange? I could start a GBx Explore thread, but I'd rather have one somewhat busy thread than two nearly moribund threads.
I agree with changing the name. Snake is bad atm cause of the heavy soul mage. I played the explore list above at my LGS and did ok. Lost to drake haven tho.
is 23 land too many in a full Explore deck(12) with Adventurous Impulses + Elves?
do you get a bunch of openers with 4 land an elf+impulse and rando 2 drop explore dude where you're not wanting to mull; but you could have a wet noodle start
Thanks! I did update the OP last night with a set of decklists including that one, but I really appreciate your sharing information. The Dominaria decklists section has Constrictor, Explore and plain ole midrange decks. The update to the OP was somewhat cursory, so I will be happy to incorporate helpful contributions. Please keep contributing.
Thoughts on a potential "Abzan" Explore package with Shalai, Lyra, and the new Resplendant Angel to gain lots of life and pump out 4/4 Angels?
I am really interested. Such a list would likely be under a GWx thread, if there were one, along with the Abzan Angels. A quick search for the GWx Midrange thread revealed only this. I posted an inquiry in that thread to make a plan for where these posts belong.
With the decks overlapping and a R Aggro/UW Control competitive meta, my preference would be to have one Gxx Midrange thread to rule them all under A_E's leadership. If a wide variety of decks prove viable and there's too much traffic, we can split it up later.
If people have a better idea or a similar preference, I am eager to hear.
I want to see a decklist. Officially, it maybe should be in the Abzan list, but I hope A_E will forgive me for encouraging you to post it anywhere. You could use the deck builder feature of this site and post a link to avoid extra work depending on the thread evolution.
I tried B/W and it crashed and burned miserably. I was losing to the decks that I didnt' even consider with G/b
So I'll be G/B/x tmw at my LGS. Not sure exactly what to run tho.
Thoughts?

RNA Standard: Grixis Midrange, Jund Deathwhirler, Sultai Vannifar
GRN Standard: Red Midrange, Mono-Blue Tempo, Wr Aggro, Gruul Experimental Dinosaurs, Sultai Midrange, Jeskai Midrange
Modern: Bant Spirits
Forcing a single archetype in all formats: too many colors, bad mana.
