Just started on MTG Arena, and was trying to put together a deck where I could essentially sideboard in a new deck by having a solid core of cards that could play in multiple styles. Here's what I came up with brainstorming, haven't tested it out much yet:
Neither version is optimized, but both seem pretty solid. My main question is what do you think about the general idea of sideboarding into a completely new deck? Any comments on card choices are also welcome.
Drakes are better than Wizards. While both are rather slow, Wizards doesn't scale well in the end game like Drakes do. In drakes, I also like Enigma Drake over Goblin Electromancer. IMO, having 8 Drakes is better than cutting 1 off the casting cost of instants and sorceries. The spells in Drake are already so cheap.
Having played against many variations of this deck with wizards/guttersnipe/drake variants. I am confidant you want the drake/arclight phoenix setup. I use the rakdos burn deck against these decks and drake/arclight variation is the better one. I would pull Goblin Electromancer, you really want to focus on filling the graveyard, getting the drakes out with Maximize Velocity or closing the door with Niv-Mizzet Parun.

Without a second red 1 drop wizard (2 power or prowess) you just can't get the necessary momentum to close on people with wizards. I have heard mono red kind of works but you are just mono red aggro with some wizards and wizards lightning.
I switched to drakes and I am playing without pheonixes and I am doing just fine. its in the drakes thread somewhere on the front page here.
