I'm relatively new to Magic having only dabbled with it a bit against the computer in the Duels of the Planeswalker games on Steam and I am currently playing it in MTG Arena. My favorite part of the game is deck experimentation. I like to make my own stuff and see how well I can do with it. The idea for the deck I'm about to post came from a draft I did where one of my opponents used Dimir Spybug and just paddled me with them. Having seen how effective they could be, I decided I want to build something based around the Spybug/Surveil combo. I started with that, then I searched for every card that had a Surveil keyword and added them if they made sense. Finally I started looking at blue/black cards and I found one I love, Nightveil Predator so I threw that one and some other blue/blacks in there. I played a few games with it, made some tweaks and here is my current interation:
The deck has a lot of removal, a good deal of fliers and a few cards to dwindle the opponent's hand. When the Nightveil Predator start hitting the board, unless I'm way behind, it's usually where I start to put the match away as they are very hard to counter.
I mostly play ladder matches with this deck and there is no sideboarding in that game mode so that's why I don't have one. Now I know there's a lot of cards that I have 1 or 2 of in there that probably don't make a lot of sense at first glance but this is what I could make with the cards available to me right now. I'm looking for some advice on what I can do to make it better and what cards I should shoot for. I'm sitting on 5 mythic and 5 rare wildcards at the moment so I can add a few cards right away using those.
Currently my biggest struggles are with token swarm decks that can outpace my removal cards and indestructible creatures. Most other decks I do well against if I don't get hosed on mana. I'm here to learn so any advice is welcome.
Thanks for the link. That's going to take some time to assemble. I counted at least 5 mythics I'd need. I could do it if I burned all my wildcards though. Have to think about that one lol.
